WWE has released Shannon Ward from her developmental deal.
Ward had been working in OVW as Lucy, managing Southern tag team champions Nova & The Idol (Aaron Stevens). She had also worked Ring of Honor. Her biggest claim to fame, though, was her run in WCW as Daffney.
Ward is scheduled to appear at the final OVW TV taping of the year on 12/10, where presumably she will be written out of storylines.

I'd have to see her wrestle before I act concerned that she's gone. All I know for sure is that the 'Daffney' character was annoying as hell. We'll see how she does in TNA, maybe feuding against Tracy or Trinity.
My homey was working Nitro as one Bischoff/Russo's security crew (I got a "you bring the bat, we'll bring the balls" shirt out of it). He was backstage with Torrie, Stacy, and all the Nitro girls. He says up close and without tons of make-up, Daffney was hotter than any of them.

Funny - they keep Jackie Gayda (who looks like she's been beaten with an ugly stick) but dismiss Daffney / Lucy / whatever name she's going by nowadays? There's something to be said out of that, but I'm sure people more eloquent than myself have said it already.

Well, they already have plenty of girls who don't wrestle. When they signed her to the developmental deal, they were probably hoping that her wrestling would come along, but it didn't, so they cut her. I mean, I understand that people would be upset that they would keep some of the valets they have but cut Daffney, but those girls are already on the show and in place, and they don't really need any more.
Yes i'm disappointed too. I don't really know her because i didn't watch WCW but what really disappoints me is that the girl was learning how to wrestle properly and i saw this picture of her doing a fanastic hurracrana (i hope i spelt that right) to i think Paul London in OVW.
She could have be presented as a face allied with Lita. Well that's my opinion anyway
Wow, and here I thought that the WWE and OVW wanted to use women who might have something different to bring to the table. I have seen her be a great valet, a decent wrestler and a UNIQUE presence. She may have been annoying in WCW with the screaming, but that was the point. I just can't understand this really, but at least Molly's still here.
Damn you WWE for making me change my sig. I'm sure you have good enough reasons to get rid of Shannon, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Let me thus be the first to say: BRING BACK DAFFNEY!
She really didn't get a chance to do much (on camera) in OVW other than escort Nova & Idol to the ring.
I have to think that if she had some talents other than screaming, Cornette would have found a use for her. There are a few other not-quite-ready-to-be-WWE-Divas they've got running around that can actually wrestle a little bit, which is what leads me to my conclusion.
Of course, it could have been that they were paying her more to do what all the other woemen are already doing, or maybe she wanted more because she had "heat" once (sort of).

Have to agree with DD above here - Daffney never got a chance to do much beyond typical "valet" stances while the Idol and Nova worked the ring. She did get one television promo back in October when she was introduced into the weekly show, but I don't believe she ever got another.
Come to think of it, I don't believe she ever had a match in front of the cameras at OVW and can't recall anyone mentioning any dark matches with her. Now keep in mind, even Gail Kim and Jackie Gayda got a few matches in OVW over time (although, granted, Cornette called the Kim match one that "JR would be talking about bowling shoes right about now").
She did do one move that was impressive during her valet period at OVW - a flip off the apron whereupon she would slam down someone standing outside of the ring. However, once you've setup a "disoriented" wrestler to be standing perfectly for Daffney to use this on, and done it about eight weeks in a row, it gets a bit old.
Don't know what the reason would be for letting her go offhand. I know I've seen other instances where WWE had cut-out on someone that left me scratching my head as to why, because they were doing good work in OVW. But, as to Daffney, I can't say I saw anything in the weekly OVW shows that said to me, "Hey, they've got to keep her!"

She doesn't have the "diva" look.
I don't know if WWE could be critisized for that anymore. IIRC their last 3 callups were Victoria, Gail and I guess Rue. They don't nessesary fall under the "Diva" look of the past... One big compliment I have with WWE right now is that they have some nice variety of women. Look at Raw and who do you see regulary, Lita, Trish, Victoria, Garcia, Molly, Stacy, the injured Jazz and Gail, Ivory and Jacqueline is there too but mostly part time, even though I think Ivory should be on alot more. That's more diversity then dare I say majority of television out there. SD isn't as good as Raw but not too bad either.
I liked Daffney in WCW. She was pretty unique and fun. I thinks she could have done well in the WWE, stand out and fine her own niche... I thought there was a ready made storyline for her being Victoria's younger sister(even though I ususally hate worked sibling). Or even better! Deranged Lita fan. I could have totally seen that.

I haven't heard much about Alexis Laree lately which kind of makes me worried. I imagine they'll hold onto her just to make sure that NWA doesn't take her back in, but every indication is that the girl can really go, so I'm wondering when she's going to get called up.

-This week's edition of Raw did a 3.4 cable rating, with a five share, according to Nielsen Media Research. That is down from last week’s 3.7. Both hours did a 3.4. The highest quarter hour of the show came at 10:00 p.m. and did a 3.
