Ok, so I know how to do HTML, know about registering a domain name, know hot to FTP to a website.

Here's what I don't know how to do: Use a domain name I register without paying a hosting agency.

I have a certain amount of web page storage with my ISP (Insightbb) and have a couple three pages there, but they are all something like my.name.insightbb.com

I want to use my registered domain. Is there any way to use that with my storage at my ISP without paying an additional fee? I just want to do a kind of vanity site (ala whatcaristraviskwapildrvingthisweek.com).

We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.

That the universe was formed by a fortuitous concourse of atoms, I will no more believe than that the accidental jumbling of the alphabet would fall into a most ingenious treatise of philosophy - Swift

I think you have to ask your ISP what they'll let you do with their stuff. You'll also have to take control of your DNS if you don't already have it so you can point your hostname in the right direction. Depending on your registrar, this is either possible OR you picked the wrong registrar and good luck.

A lot of the "microblogger" sites will let you set up an account with them AND tie your domain to your page there. Tumblr and Posterous come to mind. Of course, you may not be interested in setting it up as a microblog, either. I'm sure something similar exists for the big blog sites, too, but I have no real experience with Wordpress or Typepad or ...name which escape me.

Wordpress absolutely allows users to do this, as I do it now.

That's all I have to add.

I did this about three years ago and don't recall the exact steps I followed. But, I contacted my webhost and the place where I registered my domain name and they sent me instructions. I'm a tech idiot and was able to follow their instructions easily.

Wait a day and try it tomorrow. Perhaps try it using a different computer to see if it is your account instead of your computer.
