...and RichRod is history as Michigan head football coach, according to Fox 2 News in Detroit.
Fabulous, though I can't wait for the update to this thread to be "Harbaugh goes to Denver, Brady Hoke to Michigan, Ann Arbor falls into sinkhole...news at 11".
They had better know for a fact they have Harbaugh or its going to be a circus. He was a terrible fit there and shows how the need to beat Ohio State lead them to one terrible decision after another.
I can see Rich Rod going to Pitt only to screw with West Virginia. The guy knows how to win in the Big East. Michigan still has Denard Dog as long as they get a competent defense, they maybe ok.
ESPN (PTI Specifically) is saying that Michigan is denying that he's fired. Either way, that ass kicking Mississippi State laid on them was brutal, he doesn't really deserve a top ten job with the effort they've put out the past few seasons.
I'm trying to remember from the last Michigan firing: Do they have to legally post the job, because if so, that will cause a further delay. I know in this economy you don't want to eat an extra $1.5 million, but, if going slow costs you the candidate you wanted to bring you back to glory, it is penny wise and pound foolish. I think there is one man who has studied the Michigan program closely through the past 2 seasons, who has experience with the fans of the region and who would make sure the wide receiver position is stocked every season, no matter what. Matt Millen is the man who can take Michigan football to the next level, with the campaign slogan 'Look, no matter what, I'll do better than the last time I worked in the state.'.
I realize that Harbaugh is an alum and Michigan has decades of tradition...but here in the year 2011, why wouldn't Harbaugh rather just stay put or go to the NFL? Stanford offers more recruiting perks than Michigan does.

If anything would drive BoromirMark to stop being a Wolverines fan, that would probably be it.

I would be shocked if Pitt hired him. After the Haywood debacle, the next coach Pitt hires will most likely be so clean that he won't even have a single parking ticket on his record.

Originally posted by Big BadIn fairness to Hoke, Auburn fans were pretty blase about Gene Chizik, and that hire seems to have worked out pretty well
I agree. Don't get me wrong, I don't think of this as nearly the fiasco I did when RichRod was hired. I think Hoke has a great chance to succeed, especially from watching his introductory press conference today. And he has the press, alumni and former players all united behind him, something RichRod had NONE of.
I believe Michigan fans' main gripe is with how the process played itself out. As Michigan's AD, Dave Brandon did not exactly cover himself in glory on this one.
Charles Barkley was the most outspoken critic against his hiring if I recall correctly, but I hear he's his biggest fan now. To be fair to Chuck, though, his complaints were not about Chizik himself but more about the hiring process which was apparently completely void of consideration of any minority candidates.
In fact, he showed up on Vanden Bosch's front porch at 12:01am this morning. That would be quite a coup, especially if the Lions draft Suh or McCoy for another spot on the d-line.
