Yes (Buffy on UPN, Angel on WB), but that only stops them from crossing over regular characters. I think.

What the hell, I'll give this a go.

Right, well I would think that at the point Buffy jumped networks, they would've probably made a decision to cut the two shows off from each other to avoid getting into any trouble. Of course I could be completely wrong.

With poison running through your veins, and death marching solemnly towards you, heroic acts become more of a necessity as you see your time dwindling.

Vanquishing your enemies, making amends to those you have wronged, and leaving words of love and kindness for those around you become second nature as your own mortality looms

However, true strength lies not in these last desperate acts, but in the actions of one who has to get out of bed the next day and face the consequences of doing that which you believe is right.

Well, I think they still drop references now and then, but probably not since the end of Buffy season 5 and the start of season 6. I can't really remember.

What the hell, I'll give this a go.

They talk about Buffy on Angel. Joss has sadi that things have calmed down to make crossovers possible again. Faith is supposed to appear on BOTH so we can maybe expect a little crossover.

Bongo's right, they SHOULD have mentioned LA on Buffy but maybe they aren't occuring at the exact time anymore.

Angel's love is the mother of his granchild... Joss is a pretty twisted genius isn't he?

This season has been a lot better than last.

I think Giles is dead. Physics would say so (there's no way he could jump out of the way of that blade). He will make appearances though before it's revealed he is dead. (as a big-bad shape-shifter, or whatever they call that). Afterall, this first evil seems really big into the mind games.

How can Giles be dead if he's getting his own series? Maybe Faith saves him at the last moment. Or maybe Whistler, I'd love if they finally tied up his loose ends.

If Giles is indeed getting his own series, thanks for the SPOILER ALERT warning... The same *should* go for mentioning that Faith is due back on both shows, but I knew about that, so I'm not as bothered.

I don't think Giles is dead if for no other reason than you don't kill off one of the main four characters off camera as an epilogue to an episode. If Giles was going to go out, it would (and should) be a big deal. Think about the deaths of Miss Calendar, Mrs. Summers, and Tara. Those were big events. And Giles is a more important character to the overall mythos than any of them.

Giles is not dead. He is gathering them since it has started.

And since when has physics had anything to do with this show? All Giles needs is some kind of protection spell force-field, and he's okay. Like what Willow threw at the Spidery thing in the kill Anya episode.

Overall, I have to say that this season is tight. Putting aside the "Him" episode, which did have its moments, everything is progressing towards something big happening. I think that the Principal is, if not a watcher, then at least a member of whatever group is going to replace the watchers. (One of the them that Giles has to gather?) After all, the last watcher in Sunnydale has his office right above the Hellmouth. Why shouldn't this one?

The last few seasons had the problem where the group had become vastly overpowered compared to the enemies they were fighting. I think that was sort of the idea behind the arch-nemesises. A group of geeks that Buffy could beat, but always managed to get away from. Having watched seasons 1 and 2 on DVD, I kinda miss the old days when there was some villainly plot that the gang had to solve out, and it was a struggle for them to survive it. The episode with the girl that knew she would die hearkened back to that. Otherwise, it feels like in most of the episodes, they are fighting themselves, or talking about stuff instead of solving a mystery, of sorts. At least with this bad, they've got something more powerful than Buffy. This isn't some demon she comes across patrolling, this is something that can screw with them on its terms. It will be interesting to see how they deal with it.

I don't know that there needed to be a "Spoiler Tag" on the Giles Series quip. He's been getting his own series for over a year now. That's one of the reasons they let him leave Buffy.

Of course, just because I knew about it, doesn't mean that EVERYBODY knows about it. Agh. Who knows.

SPOILER I GUESS:

Did you know that Joss has talked with Eliza Dushku about doing a spin-off? That'd be cool as hell.

I thought Giles was leaving Buffy because Mr. Head wanted to spend more time in Britain. So Giles AND Faith might be getting their own spun-off series??? Sheesh...

Good point. Forgot about the magic.

I could argue that a guy who has probably hasn't totalled 5 minutes of total screen time the entire first half of the season is not a major character anymore.

I could argue that there is such thing as prequels, which means you could have a show about a character who has since passed away.

Also, I'm not sure about this Giles stuff, but I thought Anthony Stewart Head left to do a show for the BBC called "Ripper" or something like that.

Of course, if Giles is dead, it would become a big deal at some point, when the gang discovered this fact. I'm not saying that they wouldn't mention it again.

But just pure speculation on my part. He could also be very alive, as you have effectively debunked my physics idea.

Giles' nickname is "Ripper", and he is very likely alive b/c the series is supposed to deal with the "no longer needed by Buffy in his mind" Giles dealing with the sins of his past, and whatnot.

ges - Good points. I suppose which one of us is right shall be revealed in due time. (Then again, if they never find Giles' body, we can both claim victory, can't we?)

The one thing that bugged me about Giles is that in the early season's, he was so uptight and Britishy and old, and while he does remain those ways, once the gang found out about his past, he sorta loosened up. I think the best example of this is that the car Giles drove in the first few seasons was that old beat up station wagon thing, and the other day I caught an episode of season five where Giles drives Buffy to the desert in a convertible. When did hte sense of style develop? Or was it just that a librarians salary and a magic shop owners salary are so vastly different?

It was his "mid-life crisis"-mobile. He even admits as much to Buffy, in a very British way, and threatens to take it back, if only it weren't so sporty.

Though many times during the Magic Box episodes both he and Anya mention that running a magic business in Sunnydale is quite profitable. So who knows.

A sad bit of Buffy related news from Scifi.com

"Glenn Quinn, the Irish actor who appeared in the first season of The WB's Angel, died suddenly of undisclosed causes this week, a spokesperson confirmed to SCI FI Wire. The spokesperson declined to reveal details of Quinn's untimely passing until his family could make arrangements for his funeral. He was 32."

Unfortunate, to say the least. The guy had a real screen presence.

That sucks about the guy from Angel...

On a slightly different note, I found this this off slashdot.org. Its a study of the human/vampire populations of Sunnydale from an ecologist's point of view, regarding equilibrium. Interesting in so far as it provides an estimate of the regular number of vampires running around Sunnydale. My only question is, regarding the first three seasons, given the number of kids who they went to high school with that died, a) how many graduated, and b) how many started? Its the kind of thing that if I ever find myself with a free week, I might take the dvd's of those seasons and watch them with a notepad to start counting.

Damn it, not Doyle. That sucks!! I thought he was one of the best things on Angel and his death lost me for the rest of the series. I liked Gunn and Wesley, but Doyle was the man. Anyway, this season does indeed rock and if Giles is dead then the theory about the Big Bad Become him would be hella cool and really screw with the gang. Ripper may or may not happen, so he could be dead. I highly doubt it since he deserves a better death than that, but life sometimes gives us a death that we don't deserve.

Spoilers.

yes, there will be a Buffy/Angel crossover this year. Yet, not in the way, you would think.
