So far this season has been all about plot plot plot.

Personally, I think they've done an awesome job of building up the Big Bad (or is that Biggest Bad?), and they've done a tremendous job of working out the character kinks that really hampered them last season.

In short: I'm loving this season.

On the characters:

Buffy - She's alot less self loathing this year, and she seems to be better at taking things in stride. Where as last season she was withdrawn and drained, this year she's ready and willing to deal with most of her problems straight up. It's nice to see her being very take charge again.

Willow - If I gave out an award for "Most Improved", she'd get it. She's back to being smart, funny and most importantly grounded. Magic is back to being a character trait and not her character, and she's really benifited from that.

Xander - He's really grown up. Goofy Xander is still in there somewhere, but for the most part he's acclimated himself very well to moving on with the show. It's sad that Xander may very well be the most put together of all the gang right now, but there you go. But it really suits him and it's nice to see him get some character developement.

Anya - Awesome. Awesome. AWESOME. Every scene she's been in has benifited from her. She went from window dressing last year to tremendous supporting character this year. Plus, she got to sing again.

Dawn - Not as annoying. Seriously, they've obviously made quite the effort to "grow her up" a bit this year. She's not constantly whining at whatever is going on, which is a plus.

Spike - I'm still not with the whole soul thing, but I get why they wanted to do it (Evil character gone righteous that the Big Bad doesn't like). So far, however, I've liked everything he's done. So, good for him.

Giles - Really liked his stuff so far, sparing though it may be... Is he dead or not?

Oh and this year's plot so far: Gold. Honestly, if they come through to any sort of satisfying conclusion at all this year, this is easily my favorite season. Some of the earlier episodes were kind of spotty, but nine episodes in, as they have kind of congealed...Tremendous stuff.

Any thoughts? Agreements or disagreements or the sort?

Since everyone else is doing it (ok, not EVERYONE, but...)

Vikings (3-8) - I didn't see the game, so, uh, no comment.
Badgers (7-6) - Being from Minnesota, qualifying for a bowl, winning at home. Oh, sweet victory.
Buffy 7.9 Earns 8 points. The plot for this season is awesome. I want to have Joss Whedon's children. Well...Not really, but the plot IS awesome. (Should I be waiting for the Marti Noxon sledgehammer of plot screwjob at the end?)

As much as I love the show the last few seasons have really drained me. I still watch but it's not the same.

For my money Angel is the way to go.

I'm enjoying this season as well. It all seems so damn epic.

But I'm not a fan of Spike this time around. I miss the plucky, amusing Spike. Crazy Spike just irritates me.

I like all the loose threads that will come together around May. 2 or 3 episodes have been phenomenal, while the rest have been consistenly strong. My only regrets are about Spike. I just want him the way he was back in the day. He's been a bummer for me since he got the chip.

Great stuff so far. I'm really digging the First Evil angle. Kinda makes me wanna pre-order a Season 3 boxset from Amazon just to refresh myself on its origins a little (not to mention that season 3 was one of the best). I can't wait to see more of the mindgames, cloaked guys (that battle tonight kicked ass), and the somewhat Masterish "real vampire"...

Angel is good too, though the Connor/Cordy stuff is a little odd (could really pay off if Joss is going in the direction I think he his, however). I keep watching the Angel/Gunn/Wesley/Lorne vs. Big Bad battle scene from the last episode. Awesome, awesome stuff, especially when we got to see just how much of a badass Wesley has become.

Whedon is a god.

What the hell, I'll give this a go.

I actually thought for a second last night they were bringing back the Master.

My only real complaint is that they killed Jonathan and kept the other nerd. I would have prefered the other way round.

Who didn't see what happened to the Watchers coming?

Was it me, or did Joss throw a shout-out to both the first Blade movie *and* Anne Rice?

Just wondering.

Oh... I [heart] Anya. :)

I really did not enjoy last season very much, but this season has more than made up for it. I'm anxious to see how it all works itself out in the end. Great combination of action, comedy, and plot this season.

This season definitely has a "Final Season" feel to it. Not sure if they're coming back or not, but they're certainly keeping things open to go either way. (from a plot standpoint)
Otherwise, no complaints so far. It makes last season worth sitting though.

I'm not sure anything happened to them. The building that blew up wasn't the same as the one the Watchers were in. That one was more rounded.

My local UPN affiliate has been having technical difficulties. They lost their signal five minutes before the end of last week's episode (11-19) and they lost their signal about half way through the previous episode to that (11-12). So I have been captivated by a couple of seemingly strong episodes that I haven't been able to see pay off. Anybody mind telling me a little about what I missed the last two weeks?

I taped last night's episode, but haven't had a chance to see anything except the last five minutes of the episode. (My wife and I watch the show together and she wasn't home last night, so we haven't had a chance to watch it yet.)

Here in SD the local UPN started replaying the show from the beginning at the halfway mark, then cut back to where it should have been at the point that I got up to find the phone book to call them. That was at about 3 minutes in, I would think.

Started from the "Previously on Buffy" and everything. Really annoying.

Your analogy is similar to:

"They already have cars that you can drive, why not blenders?"
"I can already write with my hands, why not my pancreas?"
"They already have beef that I can eat, why not granite?"

-- my new favorite quote from Slashdot comments.

Guru:

I'm trying to think what could have caused that; I would assume that UPN would have a West Coast feed... unless your affiliate decided to tape it/save it to a server. I understand your gripes; the best thing I would do is send a letter to the program director and/or master control supervisor/production supervisor.

You could be a complete shit and go and ask to see if they received your letter; FCC rules mandate that stations have to keep all correspondence in the Public File for seven years.

Off topic: Depending on what a MCO's job is... everyone makes mistakes. Doesn't mean I think WSBK's MCO's suck on Thursday nights for fubar'ing SD! every now and then.

1.Cordy/Conner.. where DO you think that's going Bongo?

2.Last season was my favourite so far. This season's EPIC feel is really getting the blood pumping. HOWEVER, the first half or so of "Him" was one of the weakest fucking links in the series.

3.NERD ALERT:I nearly cried when Jonathon died, and they didn't even MENTION it in the "Previously, on Buffy.." What was one of the most pivotal moments of the series just undersold... damn.

4.Eliza.... mmmmmmmmmmm....

I agree, but you did have the moment of the principal taking Jonathan out and burying him. Whatever that means.

The version of the episode I downloaded didn't have that scene included... what the hell DOES that mean?

Did it have the scene were the principal went into the basement and found Jonathan on top of the pentagram?

That's weird, indeed.

I think it could possibly lead to a child. Afterall, Charisma Carpenter was five months pregnant during the shooting of the last episode, if I read correctly. Seems like something they might have to explain, unless they decide to write Cordy out of the rest of the season somehow. If not that, then since we saw Angel catching the whole show, it might cause him to go kinda wacky. Whatever happens, I'm absolutely certain that both Connor and Cordy are directly connected to this year's Big Bad somehow...

Y'know, I was thinking about the end of the last Angel episode and this week's Buffy... isn't it sorta odd that there was no reference to the events in LA? I would think that reports of rains of fire and destruction would at least be on the radio in Sunnydale.

Aren't they on two different networks? Or am I just crazy?

-Jag

With poison running through your veins, and death marching solemnly towards you, heroic acts become more of a necessity as you see your time dwindling.

Vanquishing your enemies, making amends to those you have wronged, and leaving words of love and kindness for those around you become second nature as your own mortality looms

However, true strength lies not in these last desperate acts, but in the actions of one who has to get out of bed the next day and face the consequences of doing that which you believe is right.

It's a fantastic show-I love CJ Cregg. Also Josh and Sam are a golden team. I do miss Ainsley, though(Emily Procter went to CSI: Miami). Has there been any update about Rob Lowe leaving? I heard he was re-considering.
