They should've let them race back to the line. The Roush Fords looked really fast and next Sunday should be awesome.

Note to drivers: Avoid the 12 car at all costs. Geez.

So I watched the last 13 laps of this race. It took about 45 minutes with all the crashes. The cars looked really wobbly to me. How come MacMurray couldn't hold on?

With these cars on the restrictor-plate tracks, the ONLY way you want to be up-front on the last lap is if you've got a teammate (or someone you REALLY don't think will hang you out) behind you, OR a bunch of guys behind you who have no idea how to draft. The guy in the lead is a sitting duck to get passed by a group of rafting cars. I'm surprised how well McMurray held on, but Harvick got the same "out of nowhere" run he got in the 500 two year ago. It really was uncanny.

Which is why you NEVER see drivers jump out to huge leads at any time. If you pull away at all, and the pack can get it's crap together, you're toast. If you watch the 500, don't be shocked at all to see drivers go from 10th, to 30th, to 5th in the span of 2 laps, because of how tight they'll stay most of the time.

Between this and the UFC fight night, it was a pretty awesome saturday night for TV viewing. A fun race to watch, but if the 500 is similar to this race, I'll be expecting a lot of wrecked cars. And I think they could had done without the new format for letting so many cars in the race (guys like Stremme and Speed had NO business being there).

McMurray had no chance; his next teammate was Kenseth, who started overdrive in 9th place. The fact that he held on to second is pretty amazing IMO and I think he could be a dark horse to win the 500 based on some of his recent restrictor-plate results.

In other 500 news, Martin Truex Jr. won the pole and Mark Martin secured second. Not that it's that big a advantage to have in this type of race, but Martin's my sentimental pick to win this year, so it's good to see him at a high spot. It's also good to see Bill Elliott turn back the clock and be one of the fastest racers of the weekend (led 2 pratices and was 5th in qualifying).

I had to do a double take when I saw Tony Stewart in the #14 car. After getting used to him in the #20 for countless years...wow.

I was kinda hoping for a better start for the new #20, Joey Logano. He has some large shoes to fill.

This was a pretty exciting show...the new season can't start soon enough.

Good stuff today. Logano coming through at the end really sets up a Hendrick (w/Stewart in the Lex Luger-"Associate" role) vs. Gibbs throwdown.

EDIT: NASCAR REALLY should do something to balance out the inherent unfairness that the top-35 rule has created. There were eight GOGH cars in the first Duel and ten in the second. How is that fair? It was hard as heck to figure out what was happening with the GOGH cars, but they were really racing each other tough in the second Duel.
