From ESPN's coverage of Game 1 of the ALCS:

Twins players, especially Doug Mientkiewicz, have said their inspiration is to have Selig hand them the World Series trophy later this month.

"If I was their Knute Rockne, then they owe me something for that," the baseball commissioner said, citing the Notre Dame football coach of the 1920s who was famous for motivating players.

How about a nice kick up the bum? I can think of a few million Minnesotans who would love to give him one - free of charge - for trying to wipe out the Twins and give his old friend Carl Pohlad a big check in return.

I've got something for Mr. Selig...

Honestly, Minnesota is where they're at because they are a good team, a good team that didn't need an super sized salary to go out there and play solid baseball and win games.

I'm biased because I'm a Twins fan (mostly through my mother, my dad likes sports but not specific teams), born and raised in Minnesota (though currently living in Wisconsin), but nothing would make me happier than to see Bud be so smug about getting rid of them this season, only to have himself hand over that trophy to the Twins this month.

Victory would never taste so sweet.

Since everyone else is doing it (ok, not EVERYONE, but...)

Vikings (0-4) - Bye weeks are boring (round 2)
Badgers (5-1) - Congrats to Penn State. Time to rethink our defense.
Twins (1-0) - Mays looked like a million bucks. In short, our team's whole salary.
Buffy 7.2 earns a 8.8 Out of 10 for being the funniest episode since "Tabula Rasa" and without the dramatic ending. It might even have scored higher if my UPN's audio didn't cut out and I didn't have to watch it in closed captioning...

Speaking as someone who's otherwise fairly indifferent when it comes to the Twins (or most other baseball teams, therefore I'm not biased),

I wouldn't mind seeing the Twins win the World Series, so they can take the World Series trophy...

Polish it up until they can bounce a laser beam off of it...

Turn it sideways...

And shove it straight up Bud Selig's candy-ass!

He actually said that? Oy.

He just wants *everybody* to think he's a twit, doesn't he?

No no no - the phrase is "Win one for the GIPPER." Gi-pper. Selig is just Gimpy. Gim-py. Gipper, Gimpy. Everyone see the difference?

Minnesota's run shouldn't be so surprising, considering the following unbreakable rule of baseball...

* Anything that Bud Selig attempts will completely backfire and/or blow up in his face.

Bud=Knute? Besides the blasphemy I consider this as a Notre Dame fan, I know one thing: I wouldn't want to get in a plane with Bud with that comparison hanging over my head.

I want you to know, I agree with everything I've just said.

I have to say this, just because it needs to be said.

Bud Selig gets TOO much blame for the bad things and not ENOUGH credit for the good things that happen in baseball.

I'm not saying he's a good commissioner or anything, but they way he's portrayed is just ridiculous. Anything that goes bad gets blamed on him (All-Star Game...manager's faults, period) and anything good that happens, they find some way to give credit to someone else.

I guess my point here is...sucks to be him.

BobHolly's got it spot on: I got mad pissed at all the people who blamed Selig for the All-Star Game. People find ways to blame him when it's not his fault.

Though, again, he's not perfect. I just wonder if any previous commissioner (save Judge Landis himself) could do any better in today's environment.

I'm not surprised it was lopsided. Given that their numbers were so close, the fact that Votto's team made the playoffs was decisive, especially given that Pujols' team was probably more talented. Also, Pujols has won before.
