April's Batman #676 is rumored to contain the death of Bruce Wayne.

Won't happen.

This isn't like killing off Superman or Captain America, whose metahuman abilities open a window to bring them back, but also whose deaths will pop a huge buyrate. This isn't even like Spider-Man (why yes, he DID die and no one noticed!) in "The Other", whose spider powers were just ambiguous enough to create the possibility to bring him back.

Bruce Wayne is 100% human. No metahuman abilities whatsoever. If this genie gets let out of the bottle, there's no putting it back. And I can't see DC killing him off, considering there's a multimillion dollar movie (and other media) franchise currently revolving around the character. I can see him getting briefly written out (everyone THINKS he's dead, but he's gone underground or something), but they won't kill him.

The only thing I can imagine is that something coming up is causing Batman to do away with his Bruce Wayne identity and 'killing him off' so he can do more Bat-goodness without having to be seen in public as Wayne all the time.

Or, if you remember, DC did a storyline a few years ago (...or ten.) called THE MANY DEATHS OF BATMAN where almost every book that came out in a month had a character talking about how they killed Batman.

I'm just saying, if you are really expecting them to 'kill' Bruce Wayne/Batman... don't complain when it doesn't really happen.

Didn't they do that with Superman and Clark Kent like 5 or 6 years ago? Wasn't it completely lame then?

I think this was reported and shot down on consecutive weeks in LitG. The original plan WAS to kill Bruce Wayne, but once T-W corporate got wind, they put their foot down, and Grant Morrison had to do some reshuffling of the story.

Well, they could always kill Earth-51 Batman. Then they wouldn't be lying about killing "Batman".

Unless he already died in Countdown. I'm a couple issues behind.

Doing just the opposite would be more of a Grant Morrison move. Kill the Earth-1 Batman and replace him with the Earth-51 Batman.

On the other hand, it may make a tiny, tiny bit of sense for Jason Todd to take over as Batman, change his name to Bruce Wayne, and in a couple of years all of it will be forgotten.

I agree with you, but that didn't stop DC from killing, and resurrecting, Jason Todd and Oliver Queen.

I heard DC had to back of killing Bruce too, and I hope that is true. Otherwise, it would be quite a retarded move. I wouldn't mind if Dick Grayson became Batman for a few years, just to freshen things up. I know they did it briefly 10 years ago, but that was set up to be temporary from the beginning. But Jason Todd as Bats? Please.

I don't like any kind of supernatural elements involved in the Bat-titles. I know it's comics and everything, and Batman is involved in all kinds of wild stuff in the JLA, but the actual Batman comics themselves should be kept as 'realistic' as possible. Stuff like when Bruce's broken spine is healed by Shondra Kinsolving's mutant healing touch or when Jason Todd is resurrected by Superman Prime "punching reality" is stupid. For that reason I hope Wayne isn't killed since DC's solution for bringing him back will be ridiculous.

How you uh, how you comin' on that novel you're working on? Huh? Gotta a big, uh, big stack of papers there? Gotta, gotta nice litte story you're working on there? Your big novel you've been working on for 3 years? Huh? Gotta, gotta compelling protaganist? Yeah? Gotta obstacle for him to overcome? Huh? Gotta story brewing there? Working on, working on that for quite some time? Huh? Yea, talking about that 3 years ago. Been working on that the whole time? Nice little narrative? Beginning, middle, and end? Some friends become enemies, some enemies become friends? At the end your main character is richer from the experience? Yeah? Yeah?

Bruce taking sabbatical and letting Dick take over would account for some very interesting storytelling, with Bruce eventually coming back...

Wait, DC is going to rehash Knightfall?

I read Knightfall, and I thought it was very well done...but didn't Bane merely break Batman's back, not kill him?

Count me as one who's excited. This could prove to be really good.

The Buffy Season 8 comic was great until about the halfway point and then it just completely jumped off a cliff and burst into nonsensical flames. Season 9's decent and I'm really enjoying Angel & Faith, but I see the point people are making.
