Boy, not an easy opponent for Lesnar in only his second MMA fight. Mir isn't as good as he was back in his championship days, but he has won his last two fights and has looked like he's gradually coming back into form. He's a veteran who knows what to do in the cage.

I wonder if in light of Mirko Cro Cop's massive letdown in the cage if they are thinking at least if Brock gets beaten his first time out it will be by a big-name guy.

I think Brock's best chance here is to try and stand up with Mir for as long as he can competently do so. Mir hasn't shown a huge amount of stamina (not that Brock necessarily has better stamina, I have no idea). Then, shoot a takedown and work over Mir on the ground while he's too tired to get a strong submission hold. Ground and pound seems like Brock's best weapon.

That said, I'd still bet $$$ on Mir winning by armbar.

Brock seems like the type that would let his arm get broken before he'd tap out.

I don't think so. He's a smart guy. Why risk a broken limb or even torn muscle and lose months of training?

The fight against Mir works in Lesnar's favor big time. If he wins, he's an instantly credible fighter who has a win over a former champ. If he loses, then he just wasn't ready, and his next fight will be against an opponent on the level that he should have had as his second fight anyway.

If he loses AND breaks something, then it's even longer until he can fight (and beat) some lesser quality opponents and continue on with his career.

Well, that's what happened when Mir fought Tim Sylvia, so its possible.

For me, the crux of the matter is found in Corajudo's statement "it's unbelievable." I just can't buy Michelin's line that "these tires weren't safe, but we've got others that will be if you'll just let us break the rules.
