Oh, what a clever thread title.

Nothing like a good playoff to make a tournament into a nail-biter. I thought Ernie had blown it with the double bogey on 16, but he managed to get back into the first-place tie and eventually triumph. The guy who really blew it is Levet; what is it with Frenchmen using drivers on the 18th hole at British Opens?

Tigger's meltodown in the rain on Saturday made me feel pretty good about my own hacking style out on the course. ABC gave him an out when he was asked immediately following his round whether his back had bothered him - he laughed it off and blamed only himself - glad to see the humility.

Ernie gave himself every chance to lose that one - good thing he was up against Van de Velde version 2.0

"Tell me a story Jack."

"Fuck you."

"Oh, that's one of my favorites."

Exciting weekend golf-I like Els, but I was kinda pulling for Appleby or Elkington to win-always thought those guys are very classy, with extremely good golf swings.

i loved when he finally sank a [double?] bogey, he raised his arms like "I AM THE GREATEST GOLFER IN THE WORLD, KNEEL BEFORE MY MIGHT AND TREMBLE AT MY POWER!!!"

"You can't fire a gun in a confined space! What are you tring to do, make us deaf?!"
"Just get out of the chopper."
"What?"
"Get out of the chopper!"
"The crops!?" - Jack Lemmon and James Garner, "My Fellow Americans", and the reason I say "The crops?" instead of "Huh?"

I was thinking the same thing when I saw that Tiger shot an 81. Then I started thinking...

If he shot 81 and all the other players shot terrible, exactly what would I have shot... Probably somewhere in the 100-140 range I would think. (I am usually in the high 80's, low 90's)

I also was very impressed with the fact that he did the interview immediately following the round, considering the score. Loved his comments about whether he was feeling OK, as well.

Here's the scary thing about Woods....

Imagine he shoots a 76 on Saturday. Still pretty poor, but combine that with his 66 on Sunday, and he would've been in the playoff.

My first choice to win was Els, since I didn't want to see him finish second in another major, but my second pick was Appleby. Appleby's wife was killed in an accident just after the Open a few years ago, and it would've been a great story had he come through to win.

I for one (though not a golfer or golf fan) was glad to see Tiger lose. You keep hearing how he's the greatest golfer of all time, he's the greatest athlete in the world right now, he's etc., etc., etc. It's just good to know that he's human. And maybe all the sports anouncers will realize that too.
