decent read, but nothing earth shattering. Surprise ESPN has it on the website.

For some reason, I thought Owen already was in the Hall of Fame. If I had to pick one member of High Energy who belongs there, it wouldn't be Koko B. Ware.

The Vince firing Boris Zhukov story is the highlight of the interview for me. I can never get enough Vince is an Asshole backstage stories from the boys.

Owen's wife will never allow him to be in the hall of fame. It's sad but she has control of all his stuff now. So they can't even mention his name with her saying it's ok.

Doubly sad, given that Stu is a virtual lock for a future entry.
I can't believe it's almost been ten years.

They can mention him all they want. They even showed footage of the Owen tribute Raw during one of the Raw anniversary shows not too long ago.

For that matter, they have considered inducting Owen into the Hall of Fame. In that Bret Hart interview linked in that other thread, Bret says "They did talk to me about inducting Owen and Stu someday. They asked me if I would do it, and I told them I'd be happy to do it, just let me know."

So they're free to induct Owen into the Hall of Fame, but Owen's wife would be very unhappy and it would turn into a big mess and it would probably generate some bad publicity for WWE. She can't stop them, but it's in their best interests to not do it right now.

Owen's wife? I understand she lost a husband, it was Bret's brother too. She should understand that putting him in the Hall of Fame isn't a marketing ploy, it's honoring the man. It's been ten years now and if Bret and the W has come to an agreement at least she could consider giving the ok.

I also don't understand how it could generate bad publicity for the WWE. Also the interview was a good read. He doesn't seem AS bitter as he was a few years ago, makes sense cause he's been through the heaviness since 99.

Except it's a marketing ploy. The WWE Hall of Fame exists to sell tickets and lend an air of legitimacy to the year's biggest wrestling event. As we've established, they can induct (or refuse to induct) anyone for any reason. Koko B. Ware is in. Bruno Sammartino is not.

Bret is concerned with his family's legacy in pro wrestling. I really don't think Martha has any such interests.

Giant corporation ignoring the wishes of the widow of a man they dropped to his death?

...to honour said man, whose death has always been assigned to said corporation despite dubious evidence to support such claims.

I think that first part is more likely to be the way it would be covered. Along with, "thanks for the plaque, it really makes up for dividing our family during the wrongful death lawsuit."

I just hate that there's a minority of people out there who assign all of the Hart family's woes to Vince.

Out of curiosity, what were the family divides caused by the lawsuit? I know Bret's pretty much done a 180 since his early-decade seething hatred stance.

Based on Bret's book, it's the Hart sisters who want get on Vince's good side in hopes of getting their husbands' jobs vs. the Vince-haters who think WWE killed Owen.

I think I'm remembering that right. It was a long (and awesome) book that I'll probably read again.

Diana and Ellie Hart, according to Bret's book, backstabbed Martha Hart by sending a copy of the entire case file that Martha's lawyers had put together to Jerry McDevitt, pretty much crippling the defense. They said the only reason Bret was supporting Martha was because he was pissed about Montreal. It sounds like just absolutely terrible family infighting that no one ever truly recovered from, assuming you believe Bret's take on it.

That article is exactly what I was thinking last night while I was watching RAW, pretty much to the letter. Maybe I have a clone.
