Well, now that he's not a Packer anymore, here's a sentence I never thought I'd say....kiss my ass, Brett Favre. Have fun on a 6-10 team and getting sacked in the double digits by the Patriots this year.
“How is it that I am a good actor? What I do is I... pretend to be the person I’m portraying. You’re confused. Case in point: in Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson comes to me and says ‘I would like you to be Gandalf the Wizard,’ and I said ‘You are aware that I am not really a wizard?’ and Peter Jackson said ‘I would like you to use your acting skills to portray a wizard for the duration of the show.’ So I said ‘Okay’ and then I said to myself ‘Mmm.. How do I do that?’ And this is what I did: I imagined that I was a wizard, and then I pretended, and acted, in that way on the stage. How did I know what to say? The words were written down for me in a script. How did I know where to stand? People told me where to stand." -- Sir Ian McKellen, Extras
Reports here in NY say that the pick is a 3rd round pick that will become a 2nd rounder if Favre plays a certain amount of games. It a good pickup for the Jets media-wise, but I doubt it will even get them into the playoffs. As for Favre, I'm sick of this story, but I'm sure it's going to be front page news here for a long time. I'm sure this is not what he asked for, but he brung it on himself trying to act as though he was bigger than the organization. Good luck to him getting his ass handed twice by the Pats. And if he think he had it hard when people ripped him for throwing another one of his nonsenseical interceptions, hoo-boy, just wait until the NY media gets on him.
Oh, almost forgot to ask: any Bucs fans here? Cause I got to know: how did they fuck up in the Favre sweepstakes? Tampa Bay was supposed to be the favorite choice of Favre outside the NFC North, have much more room in the salary cap to accomondate him, and have more picks to give up. How did you let the Jets of all teams one-up you?

I'm not a Buccaneers fan but I guess they probably wouldn't match the Jets offer. I saw on ESPN, sorry no links, that if Favre takes 80% of their snaps the Jets will owe the Packers a 1st round pick.

Considering the history of the Jets, I'll say Week 1 against the Dolphins Favre gets injured and his streak concludes Week 2 against the Patriots, causing Joe Benigno to throw a complete nutty about how he is cursed and how Favre is gutless for not answering the bell against the Patriots.
Welcome home, men of the 2nd Bn, 127th Inf, 32d "Red Arrow" Brigade, WI Army Nat'l Guard! Good luck to those down south.

Brett Favre needs to hold the Jets hostage until THEY trade him to the Vikings. I say it half-jokingly, but...well...you never know, at this point.
Yeah, Ted Thompson did know. According to NFL Network, the trade contains a clause where the Jets will owe the Packers 3 additional draft picks if they trade Favre to Minnesota.
Thank GOD it's over. Long live A-Rod! (Not the Yankees one...sheesh...)
Part of the trade is that if the Jets traded Favre to the Vikings after the fact, they (NY) would owe Green Bay THREE first round draft picks. Funny shit.
I haven't heard anything this morning tho about what might happen if Brett gets cut and is outright released. Hmmmmmm, can someone call shenanigans?
Wait, Brett Favre and the Patriots in the same division?! Man, ESPN is going to need a whole other channel just to cover that.
What I don't get is how Green Bay was able to get the Jets to accept any sort of poison pill clause at all. I mean, wasn't GB negotiating from less than no position at all? The options were to trade him, release him, or sit him and torpedo their season with the media circus. So how does any team agree to anything favorable to the Packers? Certainly they would have folded at some point, right?
Can someone shed some light on this?

At this point in their respective careers, I'm not sure Pennington would be an upgrade over Tarvaris Jackson.

The Jets were racing the clock on the Favre issue. Green Bay was going to trade him for sure, but if the Jets *really* wanted him (which apparently they did) they needed to get him before:
A) Camp broke and Favre went into the season without knowing the playbook. Not that I think that's a big deal for a guy like Brett who's going to whip it to whoever he feels like anyway, but still, you're kind of over a barrel here with the Jets breaking camp August 13th.
B) Some other team snatched him up. Tampa was the front runner up until last night, but they were apparently lowballing Green Bay, so for sure the Jets had to jump over that. I'd heard that Kansas City had talked to them too at some point this week, and they could've jumped back in at any time.
Besides, I think the poison pill was just a formality in this case. I think the Jets actually wanted Favre, and never had designs on trading him to the Vikings anyway. That's just Green Bay covering their bases.

Yeah, don't forget that if the Packers cut Favre, suddenly Minnesota becomes the front-runners again. So if you're the Jets or the Buccaneers, you don't want the Packers to cut him.

Peter King and John Madden can both breathe a little easier. Now they don't have to find something new to talk about this season and can go back to worshipping Favre.

(Doing my best Benigno voice):
And you just knew, YOU JUST KNEW, that once Mr. Favre and the Jets look to have things in hand for the season, that they would finally get over the hump, that Mr. Favre would go out and get himself injured.

AND Parcell's new pet project. I bet Al Davis is fuming he can't get the kind of media coverage the AFC East might just be taking up.
Oh, wait, I'm a Jets fan. I'll give you a big hint how I feel about all of this; you need two good pass rushers to get the 3-4 to work, and if he isn't there to stop Tom Brady then he's not helping win the division any time soon. Once the Defense is working for Gang Green (ugh, I HATE that dumb moniker, why didn't I just delete it?), they'll be up and running.
I still wanna see Favre get plowed on a special teams play, if only just once. Great player, not saying I'd do any different in his position, but I like seeing quarterbacks get slapped around.
Other than that, hey, we got a quarterback!

When he returned to ESPN I got to the point where I tried to continue only reading the "football parts" of Eaterbrook's "Tuesday Morning Quarterback" and finally had to give up even that, but I have no doubt your point is spot on fo...
