EDIT: Sorry forgot about the new rules, here's the link:

BretHart.com

Wow, Bret let him have it in the worst way and I can't say that I blame him. Except for the usual, overlong Montreal bullcrap, this was all Flair bashing and it was unreal. Go Bret!

...but you got to wonder what Vince is thinking. He respects and has to work with Flair, respects and wants to keep a good relationship with Foley, and wants to make nice and bring Bret back into the fold.

Ha ha!!! Jesus, Bret just tears him up in extensive detail. Hell if I know who's in the right, but since Bret's actually worked with the guy, his view's valid.

On the other hand... EVERY other wrestler in the world says Flair's the greatest. Are they all just operating under some mass delusion that only Bret Hart can see through?

We know it's a bizarre world we live in when Bret Hart deputizes Vince McMahon into his anti-Flair argument.

“Do you believe in UFOs, astral projections, mental telepathy, ESP, clairvoyance, spirit photography, telekinetic movement, full trance mediums, the Loch Ness monster and the theory of Atlantis?”
“Ah, if there's a steady paycheck in it, I'll believe anything you say.”

As far as Bret's views on whether or not Flair's a good worker, don't forget that sometimes guy's styles just don't match. It may be that Flair's actual ability was never a factor, but that they just don't work well together.

"Foley , Savage and Bret Hart have been doing just fine outside of the
world of wrestling. What else has Ric Flair got? I’d like to punch Ric Flair
right in the nose - but I’d probably have to kick somebody in the ass to do
it! In the infamous words of Dick Cheney, go f**k yourself Ric and be glad
that someone like me doesn’t shove your head squarely up your ass someday."

Damn ... he just ripped Flair a new one ...

As much of a fan as I am of both guys, I do think it's a low blow to say Bret used Owen's death to glorify himself. That's just wrong.

I'd like to know what's going on in Vince McMahon's head about all this right now ...

This sounds like the perfect time to have the anticipated Bret Hart vs. Ric Flair grudge match on my Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain.

On a second read, I think this is my favorite:

"For Flair to demean Randy Savage and Mick Foley is outrageous! In my  opinion, as someone who has worked with all three of them (and everybody else  from that era too) Ric Flair couldn't even lace up Randy and Mick’s boots! "

and

" If old time shooters like Ed Strangler Lewis or Frank Gotch
were to look down from the heavens I’m sure they’d be more impressed with Randy  and Mick’s realism and psychology than Flair’s phony chops and upside-down  flips into the corner, where amazingly he somehow landed right on his feet!"

Ouch. I love Bret, but if he'd been this entertaining in 93-97, HHH and Michaels would currently be wrestling Sabu in indy hell.

Flair is over-rated as a worker, but he was still a very very very good performer, and an amazing entertainer. He's deserving of the title of Legend. I think Bret just didn't like his "style," and to his credit, he gave legitimate reasons as to why.

Both of them were great in their own ways!!

Man, Bret just tore Flair APART there!

I must point out though, that in May of 2000 Bret DID injure Goldberg with a chairshot to the leg. Still, one injury in all those years is still damn impressive.

Very entertaining read, and I'm glad that Flair has gotten his feelings out here. Don't know what is fact or not, but I tend to believe Bret more than Ric, so... uh, GO BRET!

Although to be fair, I've also heard Bret in the past snipe at Savage for his inibility to work a match on the fly and at Foley for wearing his injuries like a badge of honor. So it's not like he's been critical of the guys he's putting on a pedestal over Flair.

Just saying is all.

I had the same problem with the page not loading. Keep trying, I'm finally reading it as I write this.

All I have to say is, accurate or not (and I'm not sure I doubt Bret's word), FINALLY we have a great replacement to Tom Zenk's columns that disappeared when he allegedly got a "cease and desist" letter from WWE's lawyers. Bring us more dirt, Bret! Hell, I hope he covers these bases in his three-volume book.

Well, looking back, I think I would take ANY Flair/Steamboat matchup over any Bret/fill in the blank matchup. Sorry, Flair may have a nice pattern to his matches, but, he can make just about anybody look great. If he didnt make Bret look good, maybe he didnt respect him, or think much of him.

Thank you for your irrelevant opinion.

If the link on BretHart.com doesn't work, Dave posted it on his website.

Which is funny, since there's a Meltzer bash in there which Dave doesn't/hasn't addressed. Fair enough, since there are things that seem to betray Bret too.

You mean this?

At the time I was furious to read in Dave Meltzer’s
Wrestling Observer Newsletter how Ric Flair carried me for the full sixty minutes! Ric Flair never carried me, ever! Years later I spoke with Meltzer about it and we cleared the air when after hearing my perspective on it he agreed that he didn’t have all the facts and told me that he’d never seen the Boson match, which was reported to him by a fan who was there

That doesn't seem like a "Meltzer bash", just Bret disagreed with one of his accounts and they discussed it. It's not like he called DM an idiot-fanboy who cuts-and-pastes from idiots onto his crappy dirt sheet or anything.

Bret Hart HATED the Observer several years ago (maybe stemming from this, but I don't know). They have since mended fences, and I don't think this was a knock on Dave.

As much of a fan as I am of both guys, I do think it's a low blow to say Bret used Owen's death to glorify himself. That's just wrong.

I agree. I felt the same way when I read that Martha Hart believed Austin "oversold" the neck injury because he didn't like Owen. Ridiculous.

" If old time shooters like Ed Strangler Lewis or Frank Gotch were to look down from the heavens I’m sure they’d be more impressed with Randy and Mick’s realism and psychology than Flair’s phony chops and upside-down flips into the corner, where amazingly he somehow landed right on his feet!"

I whole-heartedly agree with Bret on this. I've been, am, and will continue to be a Flair fan, but Hart's style always seemed more real to me. I've never understood the flop, quite frankly, and thought it detracted from the realism of the match.

Bret: "I wasn’t going to comment because I didn’t want to promote Flair’s book for him, but as has become usual in wrestling the truth is getting rewritten again and I’m one of the few guys who is trying to preserve an accurate chronicle of the wrestling of our era."

You gotta admit that Bret's track record for telling the truth is better than most in wrestling. He told one side of the Montreal incident, and stuck to it, and, in time, it's the one that ended up being completely factual.

That's actually good point, as Vince changes the story every time he tells it. And I think Shawn Michaels changed his story two or three times in the course of one shoot interview.

Generally, Bret is one of the few guys who I do trust in the wrestling business, so I tend to lean towards his side of the Ric Flair debate.

Luckily Hart managed to squeeze in 2 references to Montreal and 1 reference to what a hero he is in Canada; otherwise it might have slipped my mind.

Hart took his shots, but from where I sit as a Flair fan, Hart came off as delusional. Flair didn't disrespect Funk or Savage - at least that wasn't the impression I had when I read the book.

But, Hart says he's done fine outside of wrestling; what's he done other than write non-stop about Montreal?

Well, from what I saw of the show, I really enjoyed it, but unfortunately, my tape was of really, REALLY shitty quality, and therefore I was constantly trying to adjust tracking and so on and so forth, so when I knew it was going to be bad quality (75%)
