Now the oil is coming a shore pretty thick and just now B.P. is admitting it is leaking more than they thought. the leak is now the size of Maryland. Pretty soon the whole gulf will be oil and not water. I mean you can't make this stuff up, Go Google it.
Anybody got any ideas on how to get this thing to stop leaking? Mighty putty, some old rags and putting a pipe over has been attempted and failed.

Unfortunately, there's a $75 million (per incident) liability cap, so I think that's all BP is on the hook for. (BP has stated that they'll pay whatever the costs are, though, so let's hope they stick to that.)

Wow. That is just a drop in the bucket to them. Last year they had a net income of $16.58 Billion. $75 million would come to mean 0.45% of what they made last year.
That also comes out to just under what they made in two days last year, because it was an average of $45.4 million a day.

I sent BP my idea for the world's biggest sponge, but so far I haven't heard anything back from them.

Now, if this goes to Cuba which some estimate, they could be looking at having to deal with a country who is dirt poor and sees dollar signs. He seems to be doing his damnedest to make sure he doesn't get elected, but that's another episode.

*NEVER* underestimate the idiocy of voters from my state. He's in the running to replace the FINALLY retiring Jim Bunning who has inexplicably been kept in office waaaay past his usefulness. It wouldn't shock me in the least to see him prevail.

Has anyone suggested raising or eliminating said cap?
Obama's chief of staff famously once said "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste." I fear the Administration is doing just that. This would be a good opportunity to take some significant steps not only toward holding oil companies responsible for spills, but also toward real progress on clean, modern, non-terrorist-funding, American-economy-improving energy sources.

Yes, legislation has been introduced to raise the cap to $10 billion, but it's blocked by Republican senators. LA Times, Huffington Post.
Also, according to this NYT article, the cap doesn't apply if BP is found to be negligent.
