I really can not believe it has been a month and B.P. has yet the cap this leak. I mean have you seen the images lately? Now the oil is coming a shore pretty thick and just now B.P. is admitting it is leaking more than they thought. the leak is now the size of Maryland. Pretty soon the whole gulf will be oil and not water. I mean you can't make this stuff up, Go Google it.
Anybody got any ideas on how to get this thing to stop leaking? Mighty putty, some old rags and putting a pipe over has been attempted and failed.
I second this emotion. I want to grab every person that I've ever argued with about "too much government regulation" and make him swim in the Gulf. The Government should fine BP 10 million dollars per day till its capped.

Unfortunately, there's a $75 million (per incident) liability cap, so I think that's all BP is on the hook for. (BP has stated that they'll pay whatever the costs are, though, so let's hope they stick to that.)

Wow. That is just a drop in the bucket to them. Last year they had a net income of $16.58 Billion. $75 million would come to mean 0.45% of what they made last year.
That also comes out to just under what they made in two days last year, because it was an average of $45.4 million a day.
Don't be surprised if they don't use that cap if or when they get this fixed. The government probably local or state will be on the hook. Now, if this goes to Cuba which some estimate, they could be looking at having to deal with a country who is dirt poor and sees dollar signs. I saw Randy Paul stated it was "UnAmerican" for Obama to criticize BP. He's reasoning is accidents happen and we should support big business regardless of the damage they cause. I fear for the lives of everyone in KY if he is elected.

He seems to be doing his damnedest to make sure he doesn't get elected, but that's another episode.

*NEVER* underestimate the idiocy of voters from my state. He's in the running to replace the FINALLY retiring Jim Bunning who has inexplicably been kept in office waaaay past his usefulness. It wouldn't shock me in the least to see him prevail.

Has anyone suggested raising or eliminating said cap?
Obama's chief of staff famously once said "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste." I fear the Administration is doing just that. This would be a good opportunity to take some significant steps not only toward holding oil companies responsible for spills, but also toward real progress on clean, modern, non-terrorist-funding, American-economy-improving energy sources.

Oh sh#t.... Hurricane season right around the corner and storms are already starting to form. Can you imagine if this oil runs up the Miss. River thanks to one of these storms?
They are already saying its going to hit the Artic. The amount of damage that could done if another Katrina hits say Florida with this shit in it would be devastating.
