| #1 Posted on 30.4.02 0934.37 | It's time for the pre-Spiderman craziness to begin as I get out the seldom-used crystal ball of severe doom and try to predict the opening weekend take for that Spider movie.
SURVEY SAYS- 56.5 Million dollars for the first weekend.
Of course my roommate told me that he would be surprised if Spiderman made over 40 million.
So, what doth the rest of thou think Spiderman movie will make in the opening weekend?
BTW, I think that Spiderman will reach about 150 domestically in the US when all is said and done, due mostly to the fact that it will be de-webbed when Star Wars II comes out.

| #2 Posted on 30.4.02 0948.13 | Aha! But you may be wrong there. Think about it like this: You go to the theater with a bunch of your friends and realize that Star Wars is sold out for the next four showings... what do you do? Go see a completely different movie, of course! So you buy tickets to see Spider-Man, and if you can't sneak into Star Wars, you actually go see it. Bada Bing! More cash for the webheads.

| #5 Posted on 30.4.02 1043.52 | Instant Rating: 0.00 | $55.5 million opening weekend. $210 million domestically (i have to agree with Jaguar.. there were a few movies i ended up seeing just because episode 1 and the re-release of the trilogy were sold out).
Ep. II. i say $77 million.

I was at Toys 'R Us today on my lunch hour (I'm obsessed with finding a Count Dooku EpII figure) and overheard some guy saying that one of the all stadium seating theatres in Louisville is already sold out for the weekend.
As I will be DRUNK ALL WEEKEND (It is Derby weekend after all), I won't get to see it until a Monday matinee when all the suckers and those who aren't hung over are back at work.
It's gonna be big, and I'm still afraid it's going to not be all that it could be. I don't think it will truly suck, but I probably will think it got more stuff wrong than right (being a true comic book geek and all).
Have fun watching tho, and hopefully everyone will post what they thought about it later.

Of course, if they managed to get comp tickets somewhere and I get to go, I won't complain. :>
I actually predict over $62 mil, but that's without knowing the # of screens. I read yesterday Star Wars will be on over 5,000 screens and I'd imagine that Spidey will be close if not equal.

I've been so busy writing and getting ready for my vacation that I hadn't noticed that no one (not me, not Jason, not any of the other comic geeks) had mentioned it before (or at least in any posts I've read).
Rather than bury the link here, I'll make a new subject.

| #12 Posted on 30.4.02 2313.18 | I'll say $42 million opening weekend and strong following weeks thanks to word-of-mouth (a guy I know saw it at a trade screening and is very high on it), $175 mil when the run is done (domestically).
I'll say Star Wars does $60 mil opening weekend. I think the luster has worn off after the dreadful "Phantom Menace". Lucas will be pissed and respond by delaying DVD projects on the original three movies another ten years.

Spiderman will hit $60 million, but not go higher than $65 mill.
Star Wars: Ep 2 will be scary big. I agree with some people saying $80 million, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it go beyond that.

Star Wars does 75 million opening, 350 million total as good word of mouth helps it stay strong in following weeks.
Oh, and coming out at the end of the year, LOTR: Two Towers ends up with a higher total gross than either of them.

| #16 Posted on 4.5.02 0155.04 | In case you're curious:
Very faithful to the comic characters, pretty good acting throughout (though a little heavy on the cheese in some parts).
Special effects are neato, though seeing Spidey and Goblin together makes them both look a little funny. Like a high budget Power Rangers.
Tobey McGuire is good as Peter Parker, and Willam DeFoe is very very good as crazy Norman Ozborn.
The movie is WAY worth your time and money, go out and see it if you get the chance (though tickets will probably be hard to come by this weekend).
Next stop, Star Wars.
(Edited to add a 'wrestling related' remark: Savage is suitably massive, though he manages to incomprehensibly mumble every line they decided to give him. His beard is big and bushy, kinda funny looking.)

| #17 Posted on 4.5.02 1112.21 | I agree totally. When Spidey and Goblin had their first action scene together, the first thing I thought of was I was watching a Japanese monster movie.
Made for a great night at the drive-in.
I'm sticking with my "totals" prediction though.

For those of you that care, The Scorpion King is on pace to make $9 million this weekend.
Star Wars may have a chance to break Spiderman's record, however it opens on a Thursday, and may be on fewer screens than Spiderman.

Kickass movie with the best geek portrayal since well, Freaks and Geeks. I wish they coulda slapped some green makeup on Dafoe instead of that damn mask because Dafoe has a downright scarily expressive face. I'd like to see him in a strecth off with Jim Carey. Let's hope it pulls in 175mil after all is said and done.

| #20 Posted on 5.5.02 1445.16 | The reason Star Wars is opening on a Thursday is so that they can add a whole extra day's worth of money to their Opening Weeked ticket sales figure. Just another ploy to keep the man down.
