Some thoughts on the Non-BCS bowls so far...

- Good bye, Pat White -- and I say that with the utmost sincerity. Now, with you and Steve Slaton both gone, my Terps might finally have a chance against West Virginia.

- I clearly have been sleeping on Hakeem Nicks this year. And unless this was some sort of aberration, I would definitely like to see him in an Eagles uniform, should he opt to go pro. (A quick stats check shows his TD & receiving yardage totals have gone up each year, which I'd say is a good sign. Any UNC fans care to provide more details?)

** Edited to add a video of this catch by Nicks in yesterday's game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2ikDsi-DJA

- Two steps forward for the ACC (Florida State & Wake Forest), and two steps back (UNC & Miami, though both losses were close). Sounds about right for the ACC this year.

Nicks was the star of the day for sure. Awesome catches.

I wouldn't consider the two losses as "steps back" for the ACC. Both teams were underdogs and put up a hell of a fight. I don't think anyone really expected Miami to hang with Cal like that, and beating Pat White in his final game just wasn't going to happen. Shame, but oh well.

Oh and Wisconsin, thanks for being dumbasses and talking/rapping all kinds of crap about FSU the night before the game right in front of several of their players. Worked like a charm.

Would anyone know of a way to watch tomorrow night's Alamo Bowl online? I'm vacationing in Singapore and it's not going to be on TV here. (I don't have cable where I'm staying; I don't know yet if the local ESPN is carrying it or not.) Probably I'll just listen to the radio cast via WGN's site.

ESPN360.com is carrying the game, but I assume it's blacked outside the US. Might be worth double checking if you haven't already.

It's sad that as a Mizzou fan I forgot that game was today.

Shame for NC State. They were looking great until the QB got hurt, and from then on were worthless on offense. The ACC isn't living up to what I hoped thus far, though the big games are still to come.

Thanks so much, Sec19. I was able to watch the whole game without missing a play. Very exciting game, with lots of moments for me to jump around like a happy idiot, although of course I wasn't exactly jumping at the end of it. I owe you one!

It's been a solid bowl season so far. Missouri/NW and NCST/RUT were a lot of fun. There haven't been too many blowouts, either. And I barely have lost any picks!

When do we play them again anyways?

The series will come back 2010-2013. There are no plans for WVU to expand it past then, for now. Until the current break, it was the longest current out of conference series for both teams.

Nice win for Maryland. Gotta give credit to the coach for sitting those players and still pulling it out. Fun game too.

Been a great bowl season overall thus far actually. Lots of fun games, only a couple blowouts. Oregon/OK State was great last night too.

The Boston College Who Gives a Flying Fuck Bowl Winning Streak is over. And, that is the Vandy bowl win for this lifetime.
CBS is being charged with violating the Geneva Convention for broadcasting the exciting Oregon State/Pitt game.

I have never heard announcers as disinterested as the ones during the last quarter of that Oregon State game.

To be fair, Minnesota really should never have had a chance to win that game. Kansas has been disappointing all year.

Seriously Les Miles? Long bombs in the 4th quarter and a FAKE PUNT, up 38 to 3, with 9 minutes left in the game? Those are stone-cold tactics best left to Michigan-Ohio State/Alabama-Auburn, not this bowl game. Completely classless.

But hey, way to show up Georgia Tech. Combine the Peach....err, "Chick-Fil-A" Bowl with Vanderbilt's amazing bowl win and what does that say about the SEC-ACC talent differential?

To be fair, the ACC did go 3-1 vs the SEC the weekend of the FSU/Florida game so it's not totally one sided. But yes the ACC is back to being a joke. Thanks GT!!

Apparently the theory was true that if a decent team had a bye or extra week to prepare for the GT triple option, it becomes pretty easy to stop.

Worked for UNC, and I guess LSU too, but it didn't work for UGA. Maybe they're not a "decent" team?

But to be honest, I'm not sure how much the time off or figuring out our offense had to do with anything. It seemed to me that we were content to pass the ball all the time. That shit wasn't going to get us anywhere. Either way, this was a disaster of a bowl game. I felt like puking the whole time.

Well UGA is THE rivalry game for you, and those rarely follow the rules no matter how good either team is. I honestly think it does make a big difference having that time to prepare. Mostly because Tech doesn't yet have tons of high profile talent yet. If you can figure out the system, you can handle those guys. Now give them a few good recruiting years and watch out. Could build themselves a 90's style Nebraska team that people couldn't stop no matter what.

Les Miles is building a nice bowl resume at LSU: 4-0 with all 4 being by double digits and 3 being outright massacres.

As a fan of a SEC I'd love to say that the SEC was superior to the ACC but I think the conference comparisons in bowl games are silly. Some teams are rusty after the break, some teams don't care. The regular season is a better way to compare the teams and the ACC went 5 - 4 against the SEC this year, 5 - 1 if you take out Alabama and Florida. I don't know what the expectations and predictions for the ACC teams were but I'd say only 4 teams in the SEC (Alabama, Florida, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss) either met or exceeded expectations. Maybe there is more talent in the SEC but there was a lot of underachieving.

As for Les Miles, eh, they scored 3 points in the second half. If my team scored 35 in the first half and then suddenly 3 in the second half I'd do whatever it took to get them back on track too. If people are complaining for them trying to run up the score when they scored 3 points in the second half then that is just more ridiculous SEC bashing.

See I agree with you in some ways, but overall it's against the rules. Doesn't really matter to me if you like the rules or agree with them, you don't break them.
