So Booker T is apparently injured and will probably be out of action for awhile. Who knows for how long. We all hope that it's not a serious or career ending injury. If it's not and he's able to come back, this could be the big boost to Booker's career we've been waiting for.

Any time a wrestler goes away with an injury and comes back, he gets a huge "welcome back" pop. If played right, they also get a huge push (see Angle, Kurt and H, HH). I say, even if he's healthier before then, keep Booker away until the Royal Rumble. Have him retun as a surprise during the Rumble and win the thing. Then the build up can begin.

The guy fought his way out of the ghetto to become a WWE Superstar. Just as his star was beginning to rise, he was taken out with an injury. However, he battled through it and came back and his only goal, the one goal he's never accomplished in the business, is the World Championship (the WWE version, of course). Huge build up, huge push, huge win at WrestleMania XX against whomever is the champ at the time.....probably HHH.

It's possible that this could allow someone else to step up to be the prominent face midcarder. I'm afraid Steiner or Nash will get that push and I'm not too thrilled with RVD being put back in that role. It just doesn't lead anywhere. Considering the SummerSlam main event, Goldberg should get that spot.

That doesn't mean that the fans will take to this new person as they did to Booker.

I hate to say it, but Booker's (hopefully short) absence could shake up the Raw rut enough to get the writers enthused with the midcarders. While Booker is obviously an energetic wrestler, it's getting pretty damn boring seeing him square off against Christian for months on end.

Or he could not get the big returning push, (see Rhino and Benoit, Chris).

Hey, it's being rumored that Chris Jericho could possibly win the Elimination Chamber at SummerSlam. There's not much more I could ask for than Booker T v. Chris Jericho for the World Title at WrestleMania XX!

Of course, those big return pushes you speak of are usually for already established main-eventers. Sure, Triple H got months of vignettes and U2 music videos. But did Chris Benoit get anything, or did he just show up suddenly on an episode of Raw? That's what I'm afraid will happen to poor Booker.

Benoit got a verbal push from Vince and Angle right before the brand split. Angle argued that Vince should draft Benoit because Angle saw him training for a return and assured Vince he was ready to go.

When he appeared on RAW, he and Eddy started a feud with Austin right before his big departure.

Yes, Benoit and Guerrero did start an Austin feud, but what came of it? Austin left, Guerrero loses to Flair at KOTR, then they team and lose at Vengeance to...Bubba and Spike Dudley? The 'triumphant return' push is hardly a sure thing; it's an effective plot device, but it's one they only use when the wrestler in question is a guy they'd push anyway. Hunter and Angle got it. Benoit and Rhyno both just kinda showed up one day. I imagine when the time comes Edge will get it because he's a homegrown guy but Booker, if he is out for an extended period, likely will not. He'll get the same effort behind him he's received the past year or so...enough to keep him over, not enough to get him more over.

Meltz says Booker should be out six-eight weeks with the back injury.

I'm sure Christian will just transition it to another face like Rob Van Dam after SummerSlam.

Heck, the way it looks now, Christian won't even have a match for Summerslam. Lord knows we can't take away from that 'dream' match of Shane vs. Bischoff.
