(Stole this link from my wife!)

http://www.warprecords.com/bleep/

Seeing the success of the iTMS, now WARP attempts to set the standard for digital music offerings direct from the label, offering variable bitrate mp3 WITHOUT any form of copy-protection. $1.35 (99p) for single tracks, $4.29 (2.99?)for most EPs and $9.99 (6.99) for CDs, $11.99/8.99 for double CDs. These prices don't match up, but I'm not sure who's getting the better deal. Anyway, a great price for great quality, and no hassle moving it to your iPod. AND they promise to soon have ALL the deleted and/or limited edition tracks available, so no more paying $200 on eBay for a secondhand copy of AFX' "Hangable Auto Bulb 2" because you can get it NOW for $2.69! YEAH

We can only hope this is a stunning success, and other labels quickly implement *their* stores following the same model, YESTERDAY.

You may be shocked to know I decided to SHOW MY SUPPORT! for Bleep and buy a download of that vinyl-only Broadcast/Two Lone Swordsmen remix thingie ... it was a really painless process and I'm 100% satisfied with the experience, etc. etc., good work mate.

I wish more labels, etc., would realize that when you make the process easy on consumers, consumers are more likely to keep buying downloads because it's so easy. Much easier than tracking down a quality copy of a particular song through filesharing services. I've used both iTMS and Bleep now and have to say that it's a challenge to stop myself from buying more stuff from each of them. If you'd told me a year ago that I'd feel that way I would have SPLIT MY SIDES. (Laughing.)

not to be an ass or anything (because i think the concept is great, especially if it eventually expanded to encompass things like the mixtape or underground music scene), but since the preview of the song on the page actually plays the *entire* song, you could techinically record it onto your computer for free right?

Sure...if you're not a quality nut. I believe the previews are encoded at 96k.

While you can preview an entire song, you can only listen to it in 25-second chunks with five-second fadeouts. After 30 seconds the preview pauses and you have to manually restart it. At least that's the case with the songs I've previewed.
