Blech. I was bored this morning and decided to buy the VOD of SS.

It's *horrid*. The quality is so bad that I frankly can't sit through more than five minutes of it. I'm pretty positive it's not my system. My machine has a 2 gig processor and 1 gig of RAM, and my video card is a G4. Tried playing several other streaming videos (*cough* porn *cough*) and they do fine. GTA works fine. It's just this video. Updated all of my codecs and media software, still shitty. Uninstalled/reinstalled/update my video driver. Still bad.

What do you guys think? E-mail and complain and try to get a refund or chalk it up to experience?

I'm thinking just chalk it up.

Probably both. No reason you shouldn't at least ask for your money back on it. When seen properly, SummerSlam was a decent show to watch, I thought. Bad Blood, on the other hand... you could have probably kept that one all scrambled and it wouldn't have made much difference...

Ach, I just e-mailed them. I don't expect a refund, but here's to hoping.

I was excited to see it, but not at that quality. Jaysus.

I had the same problem before in February when I ordered the PPV....

I would get like a minute and a half of action, and then a few minutes of loading... the quality wasn't too bad, but I just got a lot of still frames, which really pissed me off.

I heard that the Wrestlemania web broadcast ran well... but, I will never ever ever order a PPV on the web again.

I'm running off of a T1 here for heaven's sake...

Their reply:

Dear Liz,

It's difficult to troubleshoot this without actually looking at your computer but the simplest solutions may be the best - Reboot your computer - Parts of the browser or player software can crash and the rest of the system will look perfectly normal.

Another option is to reset your browser Options (Internet Explorer or Netscape) to Default.

Finally, running other programs at the same time can really slow down a video stream. It's usually best to close any other programs.

There are additional Media Player troubleshooting tips in our Help section.

Unfortunately, no refunds can be given on Video On Demand purchases.

Sincerely,

WWE Pay-Per-View Webcast Team

Oh, well. I'm with you, Manding0 -- no more VOD/PPV from the web from now on.

Exactly HOW is that supposed to help you now?

If it were me, Liz, I'd probably complain some more. You already ordered the event, and THEY didn't deliver....

Ach, I totally hear what you're saying Bulldog. I have a feeling it would get me nowhere, though, as VOD is one of those iffy things that they majorly stall on giving refunds for. They pull out the tired excuse of "Well, how do we know that it didn't work just fine and you're just trying to pull one over on us?"

Bah. I may give them a call, though. And I don't know *how* they expected that e-mail to help, especially seeing as how I stated that I had already tried all of that plus 100 other more technically advanced things.

Ah, well! I knew I should have scoured my P2P programs for a bootleg of it first. This is what I get for trying to legitimately support the WWE.

;)

That's weird. I read last Sunday that WWE would be halting it's PPV webcasts to re-tool and upgrade their systems. I guess it only affects the live broadcasts.

Dumb question I know, but are you sure you clicked the 300k stream? I've checked out a few WWE PPV webcasts and they weren't too bad. Although i've watched tons of wrestling vids on my computer of different video quality so maybe i'm just use to it.

When I checkout the webcasts, I sit back abit since sitting too close makes my eyes hurt.

Have you tried any other WWE.com webcasts like any Byte This episodes just for comparison?

You could always call your credit card company and let THEM fight for you. You had to charge it, right?

You could tell them than on the version you saw, it looked almost like Jonathan Coachman was a heel, and obviously that couldn't be right....

And I agree with CRZ, if you paid by credit card, you should be able to put in a decent fight....

Not a dumb question -- trust me, I was wondering if *I* was doing something wrong for quite awhile! But yeah, I'm sure I used the 300k stream. Byte This works perfectly, as do the little clips from various shows. Just the VOD.

I know what you mean about the quality thing -- trust me, this is *horrible*. As in, I can't tell anyone apart it's so blurry and pixelated. Thanks for the suggestions, though.

CRZ, I actually may call the credit card company and complain if I don't get any resolution from ShopZone. I was going to let it go, but I downloaded a bootleg of the SummerSlam intro from a P2P program and it's flawless. I paid close to $20 for this VOD -- I want my money back now.

Thanks, you guys.

:)

You tell them that you've updated your codecs & video drivers, & they come back suggesting that your browser settings may be off? "Little girl, we know you don't understand these complicated com-PEW-ter things." Pat-pat.

I'd be sending Vince & Linda letters complaining about the quality of tech support available.

Precisely. I guess I should have started out my letter with "I was a level 2 support technician for Dell Computers for close to two years, so don't treat me like a flaming fucking idiot."

Pfft. I suppose I have access to the stream for seven days. I'm going to try it tomorrow, just in case the problems that are *obviously* on their end clear up. If they don't, I'm going to call them. If they refuse to meet me at least half-way, I'll call the credit card company.

Ach. I hate doing stuff like that, because I don't want to seem like a whiner (plus I was on the end of endless unreasonable demand phone calls before myself), but damn. They could at least offer me another VOD selection if they don't want to refund the price.

Although if this is a good example of their VOD quality, I'd graciously decline that offer.

Good luck with that, Liz.

I really felt jipped with mine, but I got a free WWE magazine with my order Not quite worth the $18, but at least I got something out of it.

I really don't know what the problem is with their online PPV feeds, but I'm glad that you've sworn them off with me.

Doesn't Shane McMahon still control media and it was his idea to do web casts of PPVs. Maybe he didn't want you to see Coach kick his ass!

I've got a whole group of friends that are casual wrestling fans. They stopped watching around the time of Austin's heel turn and Rocky leaving the first time.
