Jay Glazer reports (msn.foxsports.com):

Glazer: Jauron fired as Bills head coach
    by Jay Glazer
    Updated: November 17, 2009, 4:00 PM EST

The Buffalo Bills' season has apparently hit a new low.

Head coach Dick Jauron was fired Tuesday with the Bills off to a 3-6 start and struggling to score points on offense.

At this point, the staff has not yet been told who will hold the post of interim coach, though the odds-on favorite is believed to be defensive coordinator Perry Fewell.

Bills owner Ralph Wilson says it was "a difficult decision," but one he felt he needed to make in the "best interest of our team."

The Bills are averaging just over 15 points per game on an offense that acquired Terrell Owen this season but remains unsettled at quarterback. The defense is riddled with injuries, and has allowed an NFL-worst 173 yards rushing a game.

The move comes two days after Buffalo returned from a bye week and were beaten 41-17 by the Tennessee Titans. Jauron leaves with a 24-33 record over three-plus seasons.

"I really don't have anything to say," was all Jauron would say when reached on his cell phone by The Associated Press.

Is this a surprise? I'm a little surprised but maybe I'm just not paying attention like I should.

Yes and no. Not a surprise in that the Bills keep spiraling downward and he was going to get fired at some point but "yes" in that earlier this year, Ralph Wilson made it sound like Jauron wouldn't be fired in-season. Sound like Fewell would take over, but I'd like to see ST Coordinator Bobby April get a shot.

A bad head coach, a lousy quarterback, a T.O.-gamble that failed miserably, no hope for the future. In any other world, this would be the most dysfunctional team in football, but in today's NFL, the Bills can't even crack the Top 3.

I just don't understand firing a head coach in the middle of the season in football. A sixteen game season isn't long enough to turn ANY team around and make them a playoff contender.

I guess on the brightside, Jauron is supposed to be very well liked throughout the league, so he should get a coordinator position next season.

This really should have happened at the end of last year, so I am sort of surprised that it happened in the middle of the season.

With all the quality coaches on the market prior to the '10 season, it gives the Bills an opportunity to try to get one, should that be the direction they are going, before other teams fire their coaches and flood the market.
And, I have to disagree with Glazer: Losing to the Browns in a game where Anderson completed 2 passes is still the low point.

Vince Young is turning the Titans into a playoff contender and they started 0-6. The AFC is too tough for the Bills to make the playoffs in, though.

Well liked doesn't mean effective coach.

From listening to some Titan players, the real turn around was they got their heads out of their asses. Although Vince seems to have matured some.

*Putting the paper bag over my head*
Sadly, I am a Bills fan and from near the area and it is about time.

However, firing the coach won't turn this team around completely. The Bills have no QB's that can turn around the franchise and Trent Edwards looked like he had the potential the last couple of seasons but this year is no good. The Bills should just loose and get a higher draft pick (goodness, I sound like a friend of mine who also likes the Bills and he is rabid fan whereas I am just a fan).

Maybe they just figured getting rid now means they can hopefully steady the ship this season and start looking for a replacement to get a jump on the other teams that'll be coach hunting come the end of the season.

If they're hoping this gives them a chance of the playoffs, yeah, that's kinda nuts.

Trent Edwards probably isn't the answer, but it doesn't help when you've got an offensive line who are yet to discover the concept of protection (oooh, right your own Travis Henry joke).

I tell ya what, I DID get a lot of ugly stares, but I never heard any harsh words thrown my way until after that game/loss, on our way out to our bus, there were two seperate people, one drunk, who looked and me and said: "VIKINGS?!?!
