Fortunately, the faithful don't have to worry about their companion animals! There's a network of trusty atheists (eternal-earthbound-pets.com) available to take care of left-behind pets of those raptured!

From the FAQ:
"Q: How do you ensure your representatives won't be Raptured.
A: Actually, we don't ensure it, they do. Each of our representatives has stated to us in writing that they are atheists, do not believe in God / Jesus, and that they have blasphemed in accordance with
Mark 3:29, negating any chance of salvation."

And this is just one service -- check out google (google.com)! :-)

I was massively disgusted yesterday when I read someplace about some of the believers euthanizing their pets in preparation. This is a win-win for all parties concerned.

I would like to think that this sort of act would exclude such 'believers' from ascending.

Saw a good tweet yesterday "I'll make you a deal: if you're wrong on the Rapture, we get gay marriage." But from memory, these types of people are never wrong, so no point trying to be rational.

Slightly concerned the Family Radio people have gone completely quiet. Hope their own prediction (or it's failure) didn't cause them to do something tragic.

Lets hope so. I doubt it since a number of those interviewed said they would be working past the deadline like they are in on the joke. I am sorry, these people need to be looked into and probably arrested for perpetuating a hoax for financial gains. Everyone is treating this group and its follower with kid gloves. Its time for all the jokes about my raptureplaylist and end of the world parties to stop. These people need a group of church leaders to denounce this so-called preacher publicly and in person. There is no difference between this guy and Madoff.

Why, were they trying to run Social Security as a private individual/group as Bernie Madoff did?

[From a Facebook status update of mine]

You know, there was a guy in Times Square just before 6 pm Saturday, telling everyone, "It's coming, better be prepared; the Lord is coming in all His glory." When 6 o'clock came by, he looked perplexed and disappointed, and everyone started jeering him... but even though the guy's a whacko, I can't help but feel sorry for him. The guy was really looking forward to seeing Jesus.

[end]

Conan had fun with it, by the way:

"The pastor who predicted the apocalypse was quoted simply as saying, 'It's been a very tough weekend.' To make it worse, his friends have been calling him saying, 'Hey-- it's not the end of the world!'"

"Whoever you are, you stopped being relevant about five minutes after I apparently told you to run."

A crackpot in California slit her two daughters' throats and then tried to kill herself so they wouldn't suffer the Rapture. Another nutjob in Taiwan succeeded in killing himself ahead of the event by jumping off a building.

----------

I don't understand how people can be so stupid. How can a human being, arguably the 'smartest' creature on this planet, rationally 'believe' in this crap? I don't understand it.

I didn't buy the entire "End of the world" thing for a second. If for any other reason, I can think of two things:

1: We don't have a single world currency yet. The Euro is a step in that direction, but that's it.

2: There hasn't been a single man with a rare blood line who has united the world in peace.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but those two would be (among other events) precursors to the rapture. As according to the Bible, that is.

Good riddance Whatever happened to the "investigation"/kangaroo court regarding Rather's fabrications, anyway? EDIT: Dan Rather scrambles to confirm story of his resignation: HA!
