I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet...

From CNN.com:

"NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Microsoft announced Thursday that chairman and co-founder Bill Gates will transition out of a day-to-day role at the company, effective July 2008, to spend more time working on his charitable foundation.

Gates will then work part-time at Microsoft (up $0.19 to $22.07, Charts) as chairman and technical adviser and will work full time for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the organization he founded with his wife, which focuses on global health and education."

It's not until 2008 and he'll still have a part time job with the company. Still, not having Gates as the main face of Microsoft will be weird. Can the company survive without him?

That's not Wolverine...

Straight from MS itself... (microsoft.com)

Bill will remain as Chairman, so I fully expect him to remain as much 'the main face of Microsoft' as he is now. He just won't have as much to do with R&D and software development.

I have to say, I find it funny that CNN is arguing that Ballmer should step down (money.cnn.com).

You believe me, don't you?
Please believe what I just said...

As I was thinking about this, there yet one more option - a stand-alone CD recorder. The main problem with these is the price, as most decent ones are over $250. The advantage, however, is two fold.
