The alleged incident occurred early this morning at Capital City -- a club in Milledgeville, Georgia.
Uh... Milledgeville? Really??
For those of you not familiar with Georgia geography, Milledgeville is about as middle-of-nowhere, old-timey, only-one-high-school of a town as you can get. It's like 20 miles off the nearest interstate and 40 years in the past. What the hell was he doing in Milledgeville?!

I think you sort of answered your own question. 40 years in the past = no local "paparazzi" covering your every move and people who are in total awe of him being there enough to not alert anyone else that Big Ben "Rapelisberger" is in their town.
Edited to add: He's "lucky" on the timing of this too. Story broke on the 1st day of the new NFL year when teams are courting new free agents and others are getting cut or traded. It was sort of buried in the go to commercial break on NFL Total Access before they came back and got right back into familiar faces in new places.

I guess that makes sense. I was just surprised that he'd find himself in a rinky dink town in Georgia when he (presumably) doesn't have any other connections to the state. I suppose if he's trying not to get noticed it's better than a rinky dink town in Ohio or a rinky dink town in Pennsylvania.

If Ben gets suspended for the upcoming season, the Steelers would probably not turn the team over to backup QB Dennis Dixon. They would want to bring in an experienced vet QB who would sign a 1 year contract.
I hear Brett Favre likes 1 year contracts and that he's thinking of coming back for the 2010 season.
I'm totally joking of course, but......

"Ben Is A Jerk, Someone Told Me!" is one of the annoying memes of Steeler fan gossip, with its offshoots "Ben Doesn't Prepare" and "Ben's Teammates Hate Him Because They Voted For James Harrison As Team MVP Once." The truth therein seems to be along the lines of he was considered aloof as a rookie because he was put in a weird situation becoming the man immediately, but became a better teammate and leader during the Tomlin era. There was an article written in the Post-Gazette last year about the differing perceptions of him.
Originally posted by that article Away from the football field, Mr. Roethlisberger can be remarkably generous with money and time for charitable causes, yet stingy and curt with service industry workers. He is warm with those closest to him, yet keeps a tight inner circle and is zealously protective of his privacy.
Part 2 starring Mark Madden
Basically, people who want to believe he's a jerk buy into the stories gung-ho, people who don't say it's all exaggerated. It's not inconceivable to me that he could be aloof, but in a town where the football team defines everyone's lives for worse or for worse, things get blown out of proportion a lot.

Well, it was crude, inappropriate, harsh, and a completely accurate response, given the context.
