I just thought of this in another thread, but I really liked U2's Hold me, Thrill me, Kiss me, Kill me video when it came out.

The Replacement's video for their song "Bastards of Young" is pretty cool. They didn't want to make a video, so they filmed a speaker blasting out their song and put quick clips of close ups of them smoking and what not. Not the best ever, of course, but pretty cool.

I also liked the Pixie's video for "Here Comes Your Man" where Black Francis (Frank Black) and Kim Deal just opened their mouths when they were supposed to be lip-synching.

R.E.M.'s video for "Proof of Life" was about the coolest video I've seen in the last few years tho. All that stuff going on, it was like a Where's Waldo book come to life.

My favorite would have to be "Crazy" from Aerosmith's "Alicia Silverstone Trilogy" (Crying/Amazing/Crazy).

I gotta put a vote on for Weezer's "Buddy Holly" video. That is Spike Jonze's best work. Maybe I could say that "Praise You" is an exeption but I won't.

I'll just go with personal favorites:
Manic Street Preachers "Motorcycle Emptiness" - nothing fancy, but a terrific "Mood of the Song" video
Blur "Coffee & TV" - Milk carton guy rules.
Kill Hannah "I Wanna Be a Kennedy" - Okay, not really awe-inspiring, but one of the best locally done videos by an AS YET UNSIGNED WHY GOD HAVEN'T THEY GOTTEN A DEAL band.

Insert clever comment.

My favorite is "A.D.I.D.A.S." by Korn. I'm not really much of a Korn fan, but I really like the concept for the video. I've never seen a video where the band was DEAD. I don't mean ghosts or angels, I mean corpses.

And I must agree with Mr. Adam. Spike Jonze has done some great videos. Some of his videos that I'm a big fan of are "Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys, "It's So Quiet" by Bjork, and that Weezer video from the latest album ("...In The Sun"?) that has them frolicking in a meadow with cute baby animals.

Spike Jonze's best video, hands down, is "Southern California" by Wax.

Note that I am not saying this is the best video ever. I'm saying the above is Jonze's best video so far.

All the Tom Petty Videos

One video was the Alice in wonderland swimming in the Tea, and turning into cake.

Another video had Johnny Depp in it "Into the Great Wide Open."

The original, the NYC version, and there's a Canadian version that I believe was done in Toronto.

That is correct, there was a lesser known third version shot in Toronto, Ontario. It's not nearly as good as the first two, and if I remember correctly, Cake decided to make a thrid version of the video shot in Canada because when the video first came out the Canadian crowd ate it up but the American's were not as into it at first. Canada's only real celebrity, Ed The Sock, has a moment in the video.

No list is complete without Pearl Jam - Jeremy. So good, it's SCARY. Wish I could get a hold of the unedited version, though... =/

My favorite Tom Petty videos would be "Don't Come Around Here No More" (the Alice in Wonderland one) and "Mary Jane's Last Dance" (bringing necrophilia to new levels).

All of TOOL's video's kick ass. Todd McFarlane is the man for doing artwork for Korn and Pearl Jam vids as well.

Yep. They did a video for "Do The Evolution" off of their Yield album, released in 1998. The video was fully animated and didn't feature the band in one single frame. I understand it got very little play (I haven't had cable since 1997) on the post-"alternative" era MTV during "peak" hours You can see it, in its entirety on Pearl Jam's Touring Band 2000 DVD.

It's evolution, baby.

There's a video out for Oceans too, but that might of came out before Jeremy. I'm not sure.

I hate videos. MTV ruined rock and roll. After MTV artists started to care more about their image than their music. Videos are to blame for all those crappy 80's bands.

PS. but if i had to pick a favorite I'd pick any GWAR video.

I LOVE music videos. Always have, and always will. Just when you think all the ideas are played out you get the new White Stripes video that is all Lego animation, that R.E.M. video last year that was like a where's waldo? and you still just get to see some of your favourite artists having fun mugging for the camera.

I'm still waiting for a DVD of all of Duran Duran's videos. Hopefully when the original band finishes whatever they're working on and head out to tour . . .

It did in foreign markets, right after the EvenFlow video was played out. It was never "released" formally on U.S. soil. It was directed by Josh Taft, the same guy that directed the EvenFlow video.

I think I remember an interview on Much-Music where Pearl Jam were talking about their videos. The interviewer said that she didn't know there was a video for Oceans and they said that they would send it to MM.

I've got my ticket for their Los Angeles show. This is going to be my first concert by a 'major' act. I deplore concerts, but this being the first time that Wolfsheim was going to be in the U.S.
