A mildly decent year for commercials. For this year, we institute the scale of...

THE GOOD
-McDonalds' LeBron/Howard Showcase. The best way to hook new viewers to the NBA. LeBron, particularly, showed outrageous moves, which makes me that much more upset that he declined to do this year's Dunk Contest. The payoff with Larry Bird was much appreciated. This was the big winner for me, in an otherwise disappointing year of commercials.
-Brett Favre Wins Super Bowl MVP...in 2020. It's funny, cuz it's probably true. How this turned into a Hyundai commercial, I have no clue.
-Megan Fox does Motorola. The resulting disasters from Megan Fox's sexy pix message got some good laughs from the room. Simple, but effective.
-Slug Bug 2010. Always played this when I was a kid, so it was fun to see this in commercial form. Also loved the ending with Stevie Wonder and Tracy Morgan.
-Audi's Green Police. The "Green Police" theme song made this one a total hoot.
-Dorritos Samurai. Short, harmless fun.

THE BAD
-1985 Bears Dance For Boost Mobile. What a trainwreck! The production values looked like crap, no one looked comfortable, Ditka looked embarrassed, and there were leopard print thongs involved...on MEN! May we never speak of this again!
-Mr. Burns Drinks Coke. I might catch flak for this one, but I expected so much more out of this. I was disappointed that we got so little dialogue and they relied mainly on sight gags. Although I'll admit that Selma picking up and taking Smithers was funny. Any commercial set in Springfield demands more humor.
-Godaddy.com. Why are these ads still on my TV?
-Tru TV's Troy Polamalu. Midgets, for the most part, aren't funny. CGI Midget Polamalu is definitely not funny.
-Teleflora Redux. Did I pop in a rerun? The put-down posey was good for some laughs last year, but there was really no need to bring it back for a second tour of duty.
-Bud Light - pick one. Bud Light's usually good for laughs every year, but they were way off their game this year. The Bud Light House is the only thing that remotely got a smile out of anyone here, but the rest were just bad.

THE UGLY
-The brief teaser for the Late Show, featuring David Letterman with Oprah and...JAY LENO??? How much did they pay Letterman for this one?

THE TEBOW
-I didn't expect the controversial commercial to come up so early. That's probably part of the reason that when Tebow went in to tackle his mother, I thought it'd devolve into a Miller Lite commercial. No such luck. Nothing offensive, but nothing I cared to see during the Super Bowl.

THE MOVIE TRAILERS
-Robin Hood. Russell Crowe plays Robin Hood? Really? Pass.
-The Back-Up Plan. Don't know what this was about. Don't think I want to know. Pass.
-Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. This looks like a ridiculous concept, but so did basing a movie off a theme park ride. If anyone can make this work, it's Jerry Bruckheimer. I'll give it a chance.

And that's it. Nothing special this year on the commercial end.

Wasn't there supposed to a commercial for the "other" Avatar movie (The last airbender)? Did it get pulled after it was leaked yesterday?

Most amusing I saw may have been the Snickers commercial with Betty White and Abe Vigoda.

Technically, this wasn't a Super Bowl ad. (So I haven't seen it yet.)

    -Doritos Samurai. Short, harmless fun.
The guy behind this one also does live stuff for the Timberwolves games, so I was happy to see it make it. He COULD get a million dollar bonus if it tops the USA Today poll, and I'll get....regrets that I didn't have my photo taken with the Snack Attack Samurai when I had the chance!

    THE BAD
-1985 Bears Dance For Boost Mobile. What a trainwreck! The production values looked like crap, no one looked comfortable, Ditka looked embarrassed, and there were leopard print thongs involved...on MEN! May we never speak of this again!
You could not be more wrong. For all the reasons you mentioned, this TOTALLY RULED. But it could have used "The Fridge" (unless he WAS there and I just didn't recognise him)

-Godaddy.com. Why are these ads still on my TV?
I must agree. NASCAR season should be especially insufferable with these things clogging up the ad breaks.

    THE UGLY
-The brief teaser for the Late Show, featuring David Letterman with Oprah and...JAY LENO??? How much did they pay Letterman for this one?
This was #1 and the best. I didn't think they could top the Dave/Oprah one from the last time, but once again CBS manages to take the crown in ONLY 10 or 15 seconds.

    THE TEBOW
-I didn't expect the controversial commercial to come up so early. That's probably part of the reason that when Tebow went in to tackle his mother, I thought it'd devolve into a Miller Lite commercial. No such luck. Nothing offensive, but nothing I cared to see during the Super Bowl.
It was fine, and no reason for all the brew ha ha - speaking of which, that tackle was straight out of one of the Bud Lite commercials in that it was supposed to be funny but really just made me cringe.

    THE MOVIE TRAILERS
Always a waste of money in my opinion

And that's it. Nothing special this year on the commercial end.
You didn't mention...

Audi's "Green Police" - now THIS deserves some political scorn - a spot which pretty much guaranteed I'll never buy an Audi and probably think twice about my next car not running on gasoline.

CBS' "Undercover Boss" spots - dude, it's 2010. DO NOT SHOW ME 4:3 STRETCHED OUT TO HD AND THINK I WILL WATCH IT. This show will get about ten seconds (and plenty of INTERNET OUTRAGE!!) from me if it's broadcast as a stretched-out SD picture.

I understand Danica Patrick will be guest starring on "CSI: NY" pretty soon? No mas!

I saw it during the Super Bowl, but I was pretty sure I'd seen it quite a while ago on TV. Maybe I'm misremembering and/or imagined it then?

It was Letterman's idea.

The Letterman and Leno ad had the best shock value by far, followed only by the Motorola ad giving Megan Fox stunt thumbs for her club thumbs.

So, did the Air Force rip off The White Stripes 'In Love With a Girl' and change it slightly, or did they really get the rights to the song?

My favorite was the Doritos "don't touch my doritos, don't touch my momma" one.

Second was the E trade baby talking to his woman, and her asking if that "milkaholic" was with him the night before.

The Kia spot with Muno (from Yo Gabba Gabba), the Sock Monkey, and other toys living the high life was my personal favorite.

The Doritos "Momma" spot got the biggest laugh at our place.

And since I just finished a marathon of Lost Seasons 4 and 5, I appreciated the Lost-tinged Bud Light spots. Pierre Chang! Everyone ignoring (Not)Kate!

Nothing special about this one ... except that the girl in the red sweater was the big sister from "The Secret World of Alex Mack" (wikipedia.org).

I guess I have a knack for picking out actors from random Nickelodeon shows during Super Bowl ads ... Two years ago it was Donkey Lips.

Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you...

The only thing that would have made the Letterman spot better would have been if they'd dressed Leno in a Saints jersey.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

Totally agree. Got a big kick out of that one. Was surprised that TV Squad named it one of the worst--I thought it was a terrific sequel.

I did like the Simpsons one, though. And I thought the Google ad was nicely done and sweet.

The worst were Bud Light's "drinking will cause you to do stupid things that put your life and others' lives at risk" (hey, I guess there's truth in advertising there) ads and of course GoDaddy's "hey, the ad continues on the web, and the web version is UNRATED! So we could so totally be showing you Danica Patrick's boobs!" ads.

Loved the Letterman ad, total surprise for me

My favorite was the Etrade, followed by the "don't touch my sister" Doritos ad.

and, I also liked the Boost Mobile shufflin' crew - tonight, I plan to watch it next to the superbowl shuffle and look for all the parallels.I especially liked JimmyMac coming out on the hoveround.

Classic!
I was shocked by it-especially considering recent events.

For being a race car driver who happens to do commercials, Danica Patrick is a terrific actress with natural comic timing.

I went to the Boost Mobile website pre-game yesterday and watched the full video (the commercial was a clipped version) and they had a joke that the "Fridge" was on vacation so they had some other fat dude instead. However, instead of making me interested in trying to find a Boost phone, the commercial just made me sad that the '85 Bears were 25 years ago and that I "got" the cheesy production values of that spot because I saw the original many many times.

My fave commercials: Betty White/Abe Vagoda Snickers, Bud Light House, Doritos kid talks smack to Mommy's bf, Chevy Chase/Beverly D'Angelo Home Away, VW "Slug Bug" (not "Punch Dub" as they're trying to force feed us), Denny's "Chicken" ads, Megan Fox Motorola, Audi "Green Police"

Hated: Dorito's "Dog Collar", Both Coke ads (the Simpsons one was just disappointing), Bridgestone "Bachelor Party" ("The Hangover" this was not), TruTv "mini-Palomalu," pretty much any movie trailer (although I do want to see "Shutter Island")

Just weird: "Late Show" ad. Shocking, funny, will definitely have people talking, but would have rather seen Conan involved as well. Back to back commercials with ugly people and/or dudes in their underwear? No thanks. Go Daddy and Cars.com - Howsabout a new "theme"? Same old same old.

My Favs:

Betty White/Abe Vagoda Snickers
Dorritos Samurai
Leno/Oprah/Letterman (I jumped off the couch yelling in shock when I saw Leno with them)
Polamalu Day
Bud Lite Book Club

My kids freaked out with joy when they showed the "Avatar, The Last Airbender" trailer.

I really liked the first Gene Simmons Dr. Pepper commercial with his son . The new Super Bowl one was a huge disappointment.

Wow... guess the car commercials brought it for me.
