USA Today (usatoday.com) says that Doritos had the best commericals of the night. They were pretty good, but I thought the career builder ad with the punched out koala was going to win based on the opinion at the party and online reviews. Overall, I thought that it was a ok year for commericals, plenty of good ones but nothing to be considered a alltime great. My faves were the Budweiser Cyldedales ones, the Audi one with Jason Statham, and the Bridgestone potatohead one. The worst ones were Pepsuber, the GoDaddy.com with Danica Patrick, and the trailer for 'Monsters vs. Aliens'.

Gotta to say I'm surprised by the love for the careerbuilder ad. Watched the game with simply my gf and we each gave each other the "are you kidding me?" look when we saw they were actually going to run that woman yelling in the car 7 or 8 times. I mean, "hey, dummy" got a smirk out of me the first time, but not the 2nd time and I just rolled my eyes the next 4 times.

We also had no love to give for those Budweiser clydesdale ads.

I guess my fav was the Pedigree dog ad.

Agreed. I thought that the "battle" between the job site ads was clearly won by Monster. The ad with the 180 degree shot of the moose on the wall got my entire living room howling. I actually think it was the most well done ad of the night.

The CareerBuilder ad was actually annoying (aside from the first shot of someone punching the glasses of the koala :-) & the room was basically begging for it to end.

As far as regular commercials, Hulu is probably the winner for me, but I loves me some Alec Baldwin. The commercial for (and the one starring) Conan O'Brien were both pretty nice, too.

(Oh, and every commercial with the cast of "Heroes" made me embarrassed that I ever watched the show.)

That's kind of a ballsy marketing strategy, basically admitting that television is both addictive AND bad for you ... Imagine if one of the cigarrette companies bought ad space and jokingly pointed out "Yeah, smoking is bad for you, waddaya gonna do about it, quit?"

(And I liked the Heroes commercial where they were playing football) ...

That one got me on Saturday Night Live, as it suddenly dawned on me that it was looking less and less like a skit and more and more like an actual commercial (I guess that's why we couldn't hear the studio audience) ...

I think it's telling about the American economy that the two most memorable spots (Monster and CareerBuilder) were for companies that are only relevant to people looking for work :(

Hulu won for me, hands down and brains out.

Moose was a close second, that was pretty good.

Definitely loved the koala getting punched out. I missed part of the GI Joe trailer (my dad had his knee replaced so I was taking care of him) so when it showed what the movie was, I was pumped. I am also looking forward to Star Trek and Transformers 2.

What was with all the violence? Guy getting hit in the nuts with snowglobe? Not entertaining. Guy getting run over by truck because he's out of chips? Not entertaining. Koala being punched? Maybe once was OK, but the rake scene nature of that commercial made me want to scream louder than the people in the commercial. Yuck.

Not much that I liked, but the Bob Dylan/Will.i.am duet of "Forever Young" was actually pretty good. Alec Baldwin for Hulu and the Denny's thing were solid.

Dittos on the Audi commercial making no sense (it looked like it was just there to show that they had a big budget for a commercial) and Cash4Gold being just begging to be interrupted by something else. Does GoDaddy think that their "Warning: Web content unrated" is going to actually make someone think that there's naked Danica Patrick online?

But the biggest thing I'll take away from the ads is that after hearing Keifer's voice in "Monsters vs. Aliens", what little credibility 24 has left just took a big hit. "Dammit, that was our only lead! We don't have any way to get to the CIP device on time. We're going to have to...unleash the monsters! NOW!"

That right there spells out the problem I had with that trailer, and the artistic direction they seem to be taking the movie. Other than the half second glimpse of Snake Eyes vs Storm Shadow's business suit and the title card, nothing about it screamed GI JOE. Take those away, and you had a generic action movie trailer. Not a good sign.

Transformers:RotF on the other hand, delivered the promise of bigger, badder robots and higher stakes. Definitely got me psyched up. Of course, they had an advantage over GI JOE to begin with, being both a sequel and a more easily adapted toy property.

Funny because not only did Transformers look like just another action movie too but it looked like just another action movie that has already been done once. And what did you expect from a GI Joe movie? If a bunch of action and explosions is good enough for Transformers then why isn't it for GI Joe?

My family and I went with Monster's Moose commercial as the best, followed by the Bud Light throw out the window and the Cash4Gold ("I've got a gold medallion...of myself holding a gold medallion!) third.

The koala part got some laughs, but sitting through the rest was insufferable. I really enjoyed Pepsuber, but I was the only one who knew the skits. Alec Baldwin did a great job, and I also agree with JayJayDean that the godaddy.com ad was actually clever for once.

The Bud Light Conan ad was pretty bad, and the Clydsedale ads were just maudlin. I didn't care for the Mean Joe Green parody either; they tried too hard there.

The Hulu ad was the understated highlight of the night. "Yeah, what are you gonna do about it? Turn off your TV AND your computer?"

Close second was Ed and his gold toilet. I too thought that was a local/regional ad.

Doritos...nutshots...seen it. Bring me something new.

Koala punching: funny the first time, not so much after. That ad was about 15 seconds too long, if not more.

Pepsuber: Awful. You're fired.

The Dylan/will.he.is ad was...good. Not groundbreaking or awesome, but not bad.

MOVIE TRAILERS

Star Trek: the only thing we seemed to actually get a decent look at between all of the quick cuts (sheesh, stop it already) was Sylar as Spock. Dead ringer, nice job, but I'll need to see more.

GI Joe: Excited until I realized take out the nicknames and it doesn't resemble the marketing machine I loved so much when I was a kid. And Channing Tatum as Duke. CHANNING TATUM. THE STEP UP DANCING GUY. You're fired.

Land of the Lost: Matt Lauer can EAT IT. Not too excited about a movie remake of a show I've never seen.

Fast & Furious: Car porn. The part of me that watches the Powerblock on Spike every weekend wants to see it. The part that hates Paul Walker and Vin Diesel says ARE YOU NUTS.

Transformers: BAYSPLOSIONS boom pow ka-boom! The first one was awful. I don't see what the second will bring to the table. I'd rather watch the animated versions on Cartoon Network but I don't care enough to watch that. Thpppt.

Wonder if Carlos Boozer found his integrity at a discount on Overstock.com? WORST COMMERCIAL OF THE YEAR.

So when you watch the advertisements on Hulu, they are... sponsored by advertisers. This must be how they plan on turning my brain to mush...
