Can anyone think of a "Best of" series match (ie, Benoit/Booker Best of Seven") which did NOT go the final match? Whenever I see a best two falls out of three, or something like that, it ALWAYS goes three, just as the Benoit/Booker T was a best of seven, you KNEW it was going seven.
Seems kinda silly.
Kinda, anyway.
I think, therefore, I think I am. At least I think.
There was the '99 Stanley Cup final in which Dallas STOLE the cup from Buffalo in game 6 on a comepletely bullshit no-call... oh... you mean in wrestling...
Still, I have to say, like ALL Dallas teams, the Stars cemented their heel status with that bit of ref manipulation. Since Hasek left Buffalo to join the Detroit stable, the Sabres have been reduced to jobber status and I only get to see then in an occassional match on Metal. Where's Buffalo's push?
The "Radicals need to win 2 out of 3" wasn't supposed to make them look as weak as it did. Perry Saturn/Eddie Guerrero were supposed to beat the New Age Outlaws, but Eddie broke his forearm while frog-splashing Billy Gunn. A quick finish was improvised, with the NAO getting the win (this makes no sense to me at all, since it totally fucked up the booking for the evening).
Nikita Koloff beat (I think) Larry Zbysko two straight falls in a 2-out-of-3 match on WCW Saturday Night many moons ago.
I was born in a manger, like that other guy. You know, he wore a hat?
Just came up with another one. Steve Austin was on the other side of the coin too. Ric Flair and Arn Anderson beat the Hollywood Blondes two straight falls on either a WCW Saturday Night or a Clash (I think it was a clash). The Blondes's tag titles were on the line, but due to the fact that the second fall was awarded to the Horsemen by DQ because of interference by Barry Windham, the titles did not change hands.
In Austin's win over Rhodes that I talked about earlier, the first fall was by DQ, but the second was a pinfall, so Austin won the US title.
No matter how bad things may get, just imagine what would happen if Vince Russo was booking again, and you will feel better.
re: the Smackdown Radicals/DX best of 3: I believe the story going around after the fact was the frog splash was just supposed to be a "pull the guy out of the ring to break the count" nearfall kinda thing and some mix of members of the NAO (I want to say Road Dogg but this is all fuzzy now) freaking out because of the injury and Eddie saying "you should probably pin me right now" resulted in that finish.
You know, in lucha, most matches are best out of 3 falls and two straight falls happen occasionally - usually there's an angle involved when that happens, as you see elsewhere.
I'd bet that there are some "hype up a the big show's three fall match by having the heel cheat to win straight over a jobber" type situations on someone's old TV. (And then there's the OMEGA Best out of 3 Falls match I have around here between Matt Hardy and Willow the Wisp that when FOUR falls but that's something else eniterely.)
