I had heard he came down with pneumonia, but everything I heard made it seem like it wasn't a big deal. I definitely didn't expect this. This really sucks.
I heard about him being in the hospital just yesterday. I don't know much about the disease he had, but it sounded like he fought hard against it for the past 20 years or so and it just caught up to him.
I think he will go down as one of the great comedians of this generation. His bit on "The Kings of Comedy" was one of the best pieces of comedy I have ever seen. And his show was really fun to watch as well, though I don't think he got as much respect for it as it should had.
There were a bunch of "Bernie Mac is dead!" rumors floating around early this week/last weekend, so some of the radio stations around here were going out of their way to point out the fact that he was still alive but just sick in the hospital. They even said he was getting better and could be released from the hospital any day now.
I always enjoyed his work. His show wasn't the best, but it was damn near the best sitcom Fox has ever put out. I'm going to miss seeing him pop up in random roles.

Amen, Seconded and Thirded. I was watching some youtube clips this morning after I heard and even though I've seen them all 100 times they still make me laugh.
"YOU IN VIETNAM, BITCHES!!!" American Dad just killed it for me, it was so damn funny. The whole episode was filled with awesome: Roger's prep for the PPV (both getting the code & killing the bird in amaretto and creme de menthe(sp.?))
