Iron Man was a comeback role for RDJ, and in any case I don't think that pre-Iron Man he was quite the mega star that Affleck is now. Maybe that's just due to my age and having seen so many Affleck movies compared to RDJ movies, but the two cases are quite different in my view.

If you know anything about Tony Stark, womanizing, alcoholic wreak of a human being, you would know RDJ's hire was pretty much type casting. I figured they would do a lot with the drinking, but minus the party scene in Iron Man 2, they left it alone. You can maybe argue his stress in Iron Man 3 was a substitute for the drunk mess he was in the comics, but not really. RDJ as Iron Man got a standing O on the internet if I remember correctly at least to me it seemed like a slam dunk as was Bale as Batman.

Somewhere Michael Keaton is really knowing how Ben Affleck feels right now.

Why Ben said yes to Batman. (hollywoodreporter.com)

Ben is signed for "multiple" pictures. Why, he could be Batman forever.

5 years ago I would have thrown a pissy fit over this, but after seeing The Town and Argo, Ben has made quite a comeback in my eyes. I liked the idea of Brolin more, but if it can't be Bale, I will settle for this. Ben is talented, and should be fine.

We are a long way away from Ben playing a lovesick characters in Kevin Smith films or playing in a half-hearted Daredevil film. I get the feeling that too many comic nerds are living in Affleck's acting past or at least a very selective part of his acting past.

Affleck will be fine. Batman isn't really that hard a character to play, be a cocky aloof smiling playboy as Wayne, then be stoic and grumpy as Batman. Batman's dynamic has always been illuminated by his antagonist so I'm more interested in who will be playing his opposition.

I got a kick out of your Batman forever comment. Dont know why, but I did.

Affleck as Batman intrigues me. Cavill returing as Superman...? Not so much. I didn't care for Man of Steel.

Also, Iron Man doesn't really HAVE a secret identity--everyone's knows he's Tony Stark, and he makes no attempt to behave differently as Stark than he does as Iron Man. So the very reason you gave for not casting a big star doesn't apply here. (I *so* want to call that "the exception that proves the rule", but I know this isn't the situation that phrase is supposed to refer to.)

Congratulations. I am hearing Cranston has been unofficially cast as Lex Luthor for six films. Why do I have a feeling Lex vs. Bruce is going to be the major theme of these films instead Lex vs. Superman?

Isn't that how Clooney portrayed him? And look how that ended up.

Clooney is in theory perfect for Batman/Bruce Wayne.

just not in a schlocky Joel Schumacher movie.

I agree about Clooney. He should have been outstanding as Batman. One of the only movies I ever walked out of though. I hate Joel Shumacher. Who would you suggest as a Cavil replacement? I propose Taylor Kitsch.

You want to replace Cavill? What did he do? Whatever problems people had with Man of Steel, Henry Cavill wasn't one of them.

And you want to replace him with Tim Riggins?? John Carter? The guy from Battleship??

Guaranteed if Taylor Kitsch was Superman the movie would NOT open with $116,619,362.

My friend Andy gives his opinion and we talk about how weird it is Ben is ok with being Batman, but Daredevil is too much physical work. We also talk about Spiderman as well as the confirmed not confirmed Cranston as Lex deal.

What I learned from that article is that Matt Damon's actually older than Ben Affleck. Huh.
