Just like with Keaton and Kilmer, I think he would be a great Batman, but an underwhelming Bruce Wayne.

I know I can be quoted as saying this a million times here, but I'm taking a wait and see approach.

I think he can deliver the goods as Bruce Wayne no problem. What I hope for is the Paul Dini DCAU Batman. What I expect is a closer proximity to somewhere between Kilmer/Keaton.

I initially heard this as Ben Affleck coming in to DIRECT Batman, which got me really excited. I'm not so excited anymore.

Of course, they could put George Clooney in the cowl again, for all I care. If they bring in Bryan Cranston as Lex Luthor, I will be ALL OVER this movie!

I want Denzel as Lex. And Affleck as not Batman.

Me too. The only Batman I had a REAL problem with was Clooney. I thought he was atrocious. I like Affleck and think he will do fine.

The villain is the key. I thought Bale was great as Bruce Wayne but was not as good as Batman, but when he and Ledger were in the same scene, Ledger was SO GOOD you overlooked Bale's Batman shortcomings. I think the same will be with Affleck...IF there is a strong villain. Cranston, Denzel, whoever as Luthor - as long as they have the acting chops then all will be fine.

Life is hilariously cruel.

Going back, I was surprised when Nolan picked Ledger to play the Joker, but I didn't actually have a problem with the choice. I thought that Ledger's previous roles weren't exactly in line with the character, but that Ledger was a talented actor who I was willing to give a chance to carry the role.

Affleck as Batman, however, is a different situation. Affleck has played similar characters in the past (Like Daredevil. Everybody remember that one? Also loosely based on Frank Miller's work?), but the problem here is different. I just don't think he's a very good actor.

Affleck's a great actor, but he's also Ben Affleck, a guy I've seen in movies for almost 20 years now. I don't like casting big-time, recognizable megastars as superhero leads. Perhaps this is a nutty viewpoint, but with superheros you've already got two identities to juggle, and a guy like Affleck makes it three.

Anyway, I wasn't so interested in a Superman/Batman movie in the first place, so this doesn't change my opinion much.

I get this point of view and I understand it completely. I agree it would have been better to have a lesser known actor in the role, but I am still not going to worry too much about this now. 2015 is a LONG ways away.

I've just now discovered that people who get mad about the casting in comic book movies clearly only see comic book movies because it seems like Daredevil is their only frame of reference for Ben Affleck. (Yes, it was a terrible movie - and a movie written and directed by the guy who made Jack Frost and Ghost Rider, so there's an outside chance that the problems might have been out of Affleck's hands.) Hollywoodland, The Town and Argo are excellent movies and Affleck was fantastic in all of them.

Also, it is worth remembering that this is a sequel to Man of Steel and will once again be directed by Zack Snyder, so this probably wasn't going to be a masterpiece anyway.

Hey, the Director's Cut of Daredevil is prettay good. Still not a great movie or anything, but I never liked the Daredevil character much to begin with. The problems with the theatrical release have much less to do with Affleck than they do with studio editing.

Boy, read the internet & people are shitting all over this casting choice ... and I just don't get it.

As far as Cranston, I'd really like to see him in this, but as Commissioner Gordon.

Lex Luthor? My vote goes to Mark Strong.

Daredevil just seemed like the apt comparison. I've never been impressed with Affleck. I think he's alright in supporting roles surrounded by better actors, but I've never liked him as a lead. I didn't see Argo or The Town, but I didn't care for him in Hollywoodland, and I thought that movie overall was solid. Just about everything he starred in prior to that point was hot garbage all on its own, but he certainly wasn't elevating it. Like I said, I just don't think he's a very good actor. We can agree to disagree.

Part one of my opinion on this. Part two will be after a few days and some Jack Daniels.

Counter argument; Robert Downy Junior as Iron Man.

Found this on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZWmOYq3fX4 It was a Q&A done with Miyazaki at Cal-Berkeley in 2009 when he won an award. I was lucky enough to go when I was in California for San Diego and to visit the Schulz Museum.
