TORONTO -- Ed Belfour joined Toronto on Tuesday, quickly filling the Maple Leafs' net vacated by free agent Curtis Joseph.
Belfour was 21-27-11 with a 2.65 goals-against average and an .895 save percentage last season with Dallas. The Stars let him go, giving the goalie's job to Marty Turco.
Belfour, 37, was chosen over fellow unrestricted free agent Byron Dafoe to replace Joseph, who left the Leafs for the Stanley Cup-champion Detroit Red Wings.
The Leafs scheduled a news conference for Air Canada Center on Tuesday afternoon. But Belfour's own Web site couldn't wait, proclaiming "Eddie returns to Canada as a Toronto Maple Leaf.''
Leafs coach and GM Pat Quinn worked with Belfour at the Olympics, where Quinn was Canada's coach.| Promote this thread! | | Big Bad

If I was Schwab, I would be jumping at the chance to stay now. Might get some decent playing time with Belfour around. Just ask Marty Turco.

| #4 Posted on 5.7.02 0752.17 | | A couple of us at work were having a discussion about what the Leafs are likely to do. Based on their past record of good trades, and letting decent players leave, in all likelihood, they'll sign Amonte, but manage to overpay him to ensure they get him, since they lost Kasparitis already. Maybe they should, I dunno, bring back Domi?? I mean, why bring back one of their most popular players, fans will HATE that. | BrewGuy

Dafoe ain't done dick in the playoffs (how's THAT for bad grammar?). Eddie's won the Cup. I'd still much rather have Joseph though.

Regardless, the Leafs, will not reach the promise land with either of those goalies.
Sorry Leaf fans, but it will be tough to reach the playoffs next year with Eddie between the pipes.
