Because, somehow this trade would've been better if they HAD a formal GM right now? If this is what front office-chaos nets you on the field, I NEVER want another GM.

That's a good point, I'd just like to see some type of resolution to the GM situation. Theo calling Lucchino out after the Shaughnessy article was completely unexpected, and it seems like it backfired. So I'd just like to see someone in there. That's all.

Been here for almost three years, never once W of the Day. How utterly sad.

Delgado hasn't played in a pressure environment but the Mets 1B batted .227 last year with a .693 OPS 67 runs and 62 RBI, last place in the majors in all of those categories. So I have no doubt Delgado will be a big improvement and that will equal some more wins to a team that only finished 7 games back.

As for the starting pitching? I'm not worried at all, they had one of the best starting pitching staffs in the Majors last year. And I still don't know how people are saying Pedro faded last year when his ERA actually dropped the last month of the season, he didn't give up more than 3 runs, and that was only once and he pitched over 100 pitches 3 out of 4 starts in the last month. I'm happy with the starting pitching, now if they want to get some middle relief so the starters can leave the game earlier then that's probably not a bad idea.

I thought our two biggest holes were closing pitcher and another bat and if we manage to get Wagner that's exactly what we'll get. Sure we could use a better second baseman and more relief but what team doesn't have any position they could be better at? Delgado and Wagner are both definite improvements while the Phillies and Braves have done nothing to improve, and in fact might be worse if they don't bring back Wagner and Furcal.

And as for the Mets bad decisions, well I'll be the first one to admit that they've had more bad ones than good ones, but they were in the World Series in just 2000, that's more recent than 20 of the Major League teams, including the Atlanta Braves.

Back to the Beckett trade: Red Sox throw in another minor league pitcher, Marlins send in Mota to make the deal official. Rumors coming out of Milwaukee say Overbay for Clement is possible, probably with money going to the Brewers to cover the contract differential. Looking at the Red Sox pitching staff right now, assuming a signing (Myers) and a few trades (Wells and Clement)occur between now and spring training, this is what the 11 man staff should look like:

Starters

Schilling
Beckett
Arroyo
Papelbon
Wakefield

Bullpen

Foulke
Timlin
Mota
Myers
Dinardo
Hansen (unless they get a reliever back for Wells)

If Foulke's knees are healthy and his head is back to what it was 2 years, the bullpen won't be the blackhole of Calcutta that it was last season, and they would have started to mix in young pitchers without going into a full blown youth movement.

Two words: Washington Nationals. Actually, I can see some similarities to the Nats' situation and the Marlins (or at least, where they could potentially end up in a few years). Any chance that Loria ditches the Fish, too?

He keeps saying he won't sell the team, while Miami was apparently trying to strong-arm him into selling it to some of the governments' "friends."

Glad to see Vlad come out here to Anaheim, where he can help win us our SECOND World Series title. If his signing can punch Darin Erstad's ticket out of Anaheim, even better!
