He was one of my favorite artists, actually, and I'm rather sad to hear about this. DC was trying to get him to do some covers for them and now this has to go and happen.
You probably remember his work on DEATH IN THE FAMILY where Tim Drake was voted to death by many fans like myself.
It was Jason Todd (Robin #2) who was voted to death. Of course the great urban legend about the whole thing was that there was one guy who programmed his phone through his computer to call the MUERTE 900-number every 90 seconds for 8 hours, and that ended up being the difference, as DIE beat out LIVE by all of 28 votes.

Did anyone pick up the "Death in the Family" trade that was released a couple months back and/or would recommend getting it? I was pretty young when that story arc played out, so I never got to read it.
As posted by Rich Johnston at his Bleeding Cool website, Amazon is having a *HUGE* hardcover/trade paperback sale. Seriously. Marvel Omnibuses (Omnibusi?) that typically cost upwards of $100 are going for $14.
