Darn, no A&E icon. I thought it was ok, I'll keep watching it. At least cable shows will run the full 10 episodes and not get cancelled after 2-3 based on ratings. That Vera Farmiga rape scene was really hard to watch. I think this show is going to have a problem like the Halloween reboot does where they try to explain to you that the main bad guy is crazy because of the things that happen around him instead of him just being crazy. A product of his environment. Nicola Peltz from The Last Airbender and future star of Transformers 4 is in this show, too.

It was jarring after the first few minutes where, from the wardrobe and set design, it seemed like the show was set in the 1950s, and then all of a sudden there are iPhones and iPods and a gaggle of hot, modern high school girls. (Mastur Bates Motel? Heh.) The series is set in present day but the Bates still dress like it's the 1950s. It's almost like how it is in The Brady Bunch Movie.

Great to see my friend Mike Vogel and Nestor Carbonell as sheriffs. I thought the show made an effectively suspenseful scene out of Batmanuel taking a piss in a bathroom that had a corpse in the tub (or did it?).

I have no great affection for Psycho, but I do love Principal Skinner and a lot of this reminded me of all the Psycho jokes The Simpsons have made about Seymour and Agnes over the years. So that's amusing.

I'll watch a few more.

All the critics received 3 episodes to screen and they say the 3rd episode picks up the pace. With Raw being boring and Revolution STILL on hiatus (till next week!), it's something to watch on Mondays.

I think this is the best new show of the season. I'm already more invested in this than The Following, Revolution, 666 Park Avenue, and The Americans. I'm always happy to see the incredibly talented Freddie Highmore get some work. I hope the rest of the series can keep up the quality of the pilot. From the early reviews that I've read of the next two episodes, this show will only continue to improve.

One of my favorite podcasts, the Steve Dahl show (Dahl.com) has discussed this in much detail, because a friend of the show, Buzz Killman, who does Drive in Reviews (http://www.driveinreviews.com/)
