Well, it isn't just wrestlers who attempt to turn themselves into singers. Billboard.com has a report up about a new album called Hot Stove, Cool Music that will feature various baseball personalities singing. Included in the album are Peter Gammons doing "Summertime Blues" and "Carol" (I assume both are the 50s oldies) and Theo Epstein (!) doing Neil Young's "Rockin' In The Free World". Also, members of the Red Sox join with some real rockers to do "Rock And Roll (Parts One And Two)". Everyone knows Part Two, which gets played at every sporting event known to man, but if they use the original Part One lyrics, that should be fun. (Sample lyric: Rock and roll, rock and roll. Rock and roll, rock and roll. Rock and roll, rock and roll. Rock and roll, rock, rock and roll.) Scott Spezio and Jack McDowell have songs, too.
The album also has some legit rockers including Pearl Jam and the Allman Brothers, and it all benefits the Jimmy Fund, so it's certainly not all bad and you can enjoy the goofy stuff with a clean conscience.
Sounds like this is something that Boston's doing for some fun and money for the Jimmy Fund. I'm tempted to pick it up just to hear Gammons sing.
I haven't checked the article, but is Kevin Millar on it singing "Born in the USA?" :)

I don't imagine a compilation of those NFL Idol, or whatever the hell they called it, songs from MNF halftimes can be far behind. At least those had known musical acts involved with them.
They're also having a benefit concert in January at the Paradise in Boston. Special Guests: Theo Epstein and his band Trauser. Also featuring some other random Boston musicians including the always-around-for-every-local-benefit Peter Wolf.
I may have to check it out, just to see Peter Gammons play guitar.
I guess the Boston-centric nature of this explains the lack of Bernie Williams and his classical guitar. But couldn`t they get Barry Zito to do a Sublime cover?

Who said they didn't know "Summertime Blues"? I just said that I assumed the two titles were the 50s songs because I couldn't be 100% sure they weren't new songs with the same title (more so "Carol" because it's a more common title and a less well-known song).
Believe me, I know all about Eddie Cochran. In fact, if anyone only knows him for "Summertime Blues", you'd be doing yourself a favor picking up a good collection of his hits with things like "Twenty Flight Rock", "Something Else", "C'mon Everybody" and "Cut Across Shorty".

Oops, my apologies...I didn`t see the word "the" and thought it said "I assume both are `50`s oldies."

Not necessarily. Contreras is cash money unless he's against the Bosox. He puts too much pressure on himself to be the man, where he should just be the man naturally. Hopefully Ozzie can get through to him.
