Fuck you, CU! (sports.espn.go.com)

"Calling it the right thing to do, the president of the University of Colorado reinstated suspended football coach Gary Barnett on Thursday and said no one will lose their jobs for one of the worst college athletics scandals in years."

I hope the NCAA suspends Colorado for twenty billion years. This makes me sick.

Pat Tillman, rest in peace.

I don't think you understand how hard it is to drive a brand into the ground, and erode the popular support that has flourished for over thirty years. I get up early. And I don't go to bed until I've made some very poor decisions.

As a person who's job puts him close to three sports at a major university, I don't think that there is any way that Barnett and others in the CU program didn't know what was going on. Even those things that are supposedly "kept secret" from coaches wind up on the coach's desk, one way or another. The problem, however, is that it can't be proven that Barnett knew what was going on and was responsible for it, which is why he kept his job. Apparently, Barnett is popular with the players and the boosters, and, lets face it, the football program makes a good bit of money for the university. They better have concrete evidence to fire him, and, unfortunately, they don't.

If the rest of the world's public opinion is any indication, however, Colorado should have dumped him. I think they were afraid of a lawsuit by Barnett, thus dragging the scandal into the spotlight once again. I also have a feeling that everybody at CU has everybody else by the balls, fearing all sorts of things being brought into the open if a major battle takes place between the administration and the athletic department.

Can the NCAA do anything to the program at this point? I hope so, but I haven't seen anything. Does anybody know?

I'd also heard that it was a buyout issue... Colorado couldn't afford it, due to the budget crunch. Either way, there is no logical reason for him to still be gainfully employed.
