I wonder if Sterling and Steiner did a duet on this one. Now, a few thoughts:
If anyone doubted it in the past, its confirmed now. The baseball gods are fucked up and have a warped and twisted sense of humor. The Red Sox, Cubs and White Sox have gone a combined 276 years without a World Series title, and the Florida Marlins have won 2 World Series in 7 years? The Braves win 13 straight divisions and 1 World Series, and the Marlins win 2 World Series and no division titles? Logic takes a holiday yet again. And, is there an over/under established yet on the number of people George fires in the next 48 hours?

Maybe it's just that the Marlins were good enough to win twice and the Red Sox, Cubs, and White Sox weren't. Just a thought.
gugs: Because McCarver is Steinbrenner's serving wench. And Joe Buck doesn't have half of the talent of his father's left pinky toenail. Or at least if he does, he hadn't shown me. Although I don't know that Pettite would be gone, per se. I mean, he still did pretty well tonight, as far as I saw, and he was absurd in the rest of the postseason. It'll be expensive to bring him back, though. And watch, they will, and he'll suddenly suck because he isn't getting metric assloads of run support.
RSN: Hey, the baseball gods did smile on the Bosox for the whole head-shaving thing... then smote Damon for not sacrificing his mullet for the greater good.

Sure...Rick Down probably left the Stadium in his uniform and will have to mail it back with the way they hit in this series.
Torre: Not going anywhere unless George wants to pay him 5 mil for sitting on the beach in Hawaii.
Zimmer: Leaving on his own accord as has been documented by every newspaper in the city.
Stottlemeyre: This is interesting. Jimmy Key and Ron Guidry are both candidates for his spot. He could stay if Torre pushes for it. But, I think he'll resign like Zim is going to.
Cashman: Unless Stick Michael agrees to be the GM, I'd be shocked if Cash gets the hook.
Pettite: I'd say 75-25 that he's still in pinstripes next year. Unless he really, REALLY wants to be in Texas, he'll take the 60 mil for 4 years offer that the Yanks will probably offer him.

No apologies needed, my friend; no apologies needed.
Let us all take a moment to bask in the gravity of what just happened. What will tomorrow bring? A Steinbrenner eruption? Will Torre resign? Does Willie Randolph and/or Lee Mazzilli leave to manage elsewhere? Will Karim Garcia be next year's starting RF for the Yankees, or the MCI Walpole intramural team? Will Andy Pettite follow the Rocket back to Tejas?
I don't claim to have the answers, friends. But I am enjoying pondering these questions.

Could be. George had hinted this year about shaking things up if the Yanks didn't win it all. and we all know what happens when George does more than sign the checks and provide colorful quotes for the media. (see Yankees 1982-1994)

I'd hope George would fire him because that would mean the Sox could make him their new manager. If he resigns, he can't manage anywhere next year without George's blessing (1 year left on Torre's contract)

I'd take either of them for the Sox manager job.

LOL. Karim, this is your new team. They are called "The Sista's"

I think that depends on if Torre is back. If not, Pettite probably goes to the Rangers or Astros.
Sox blow another chance to win the world series. More money for me!!!!
Oh, I'm just PRAYING for Steinbrenner to be an idiot and fire Joe Torre. Torre's Alec Guinness-esque genuine class is the only reason why I've been at 99.5% Yankee hate over the past seven years instead of the whole nine yards. If Torre leaves, however, then I'll have no reason to even slightly admire them.

Considering its George, we have to throw a few more people into the firing line:
The tenor who decides to do the 5 day version of God Bless America as the human rain delay has to be in trouble. Yankees were 4-5 during the playoffs at home, so some of the blame has to be placed on his shoulders.
Surely some elevator operator at Yankee Stadium hit a wrong button at some point during the playoffs, meaning that all ushers and elevator operators are to blame for the Yankees losing, thus some of them must be sacraficed to the Woody Hayes gods by Steinbrenner.
And, since this is three straight playoff knockouts and two World Series losses, I'm sure George will find a way to go to Billy Martin's grave and fire him for the Yankees losing.
The question now is .. is three years enough of a losing streak before people stop saying the Yankees buy their way to a championship EVERY YEAR or do they have to place last?
Oh and It's great to know that to all these "real" baseball fans, the story here is that the yankees lost and not that the Florida Marlins are the champs.
I say congratulations to the Florida Marlins, unfortunately the most overlooked World Series Champions in history.
The elation at the Yankees loss was the same after 2001, maybe a little less. Besides, real baseball fans do hate the Yankees. I'd say the 1919 Reds are very much overlooked, as well as (in New England at least) the 1967 Cardinals.
Josh Beckett is God. If you don't believe me, ask the Yankees (or what's left of them after Georgie Porgie goes nuts).
I think George should go nuts, fire everybody, then to show that he's REALLY lost it, he should change the UNIFORMS to give the team a fresh, new look and approach for 2004. Taht would go over pretty well, don't you think?

Its a fair question, but here are a few things that made it so that Grady needed to win the World Series to be retained. Reports are now coming out that John Henry had to be talked out of firing him in mid June when they lost 2 out of 3 to St.
