Not a bad PPV, but nothing too spectacular. Hell in the Cell was a pretty awesome match....hats off to HBK and HHH for having an appropriately grand finale for their big feud. Benoit/Kane was pretty good, and the finish was a very nice touch; it still protects Kane as the monster, but it also lets Benoit look smart for finding a way to beat him. The post-game wrap-up thing with Grisham afterwards was also pretty cool.

As for the rest of the card...well, not much. Tomko looked marginally better than I thought he'd be, but I'm very glad that Jericho went over him. Orton/Benjamin was not as good as I thought it would be, it was pretty solid if nothing else. Eugene's match was pretty fun, the women's title match was pretty uneventful, and the La Rez/Edge and Benoit match was nothing outside of the storyline.

Like I said, not a bad PPV, and certainly a lot better than Smackdown's last.

So, you seriously think that this was the 'finale'? Why am I sure that this will only lead to a "Michaels, you beat me at Hell in a Cell, but now I want revenge" type speech tomorrow night, or at least in the next few months?

As you can probably tell by my Triple H 'quote' above saying Micheals won, there's a 50/50 chance I just exposed the fact I didn't watch it, so I just took a guess. I'm obviously not going to say anything else about the show except how shocked I was to reload the page a second ago and find out that there WAS a show tonight. Man, I used to actually get excited about these things, now every damn week the booking is just 'going through the motions' until the next hot period hits.

I thought it was decent. Not as good as Backlash but better then the RAW PPV's of 2003. The crowd REALLY sucked, IMO. They only popped for nearfalls or big moves. They didn't even try to get into anything outside some of them cheering Randy Orton.

The last two matches were really good but if they had a better crowd, they would've been a lot better.

I also really like that the Hell In A Cell STAYED IN THE CELL again. I'd put this one 3rd behind Michaels/Taker and Lesnar/Taker.

This was just a tremendous show, especially that I had only so-so expectations going into it. Come to think of it (in my mind anyways), WWE has delivered big-time in five of its six PPV's this year, which is really saying something.

Edge and Chris Benoit Vs. La Resistance was a decent opener, which was booked more meant to sell the main event, but whatever. There were a few subtle teases of dissention between Edge and Benoit, but nothing that would have rushed this whole angle too much. Wasn't thrilled with the finish, but it was decent enough knowing that the French Canadians weren't going to part with the gold tonight.

Chris Jericho Vs. Tyson Tomko was, mercifully, kept short. I think WWE even realized this was too much, too soon for the so-called Problem Solver. Nice of Jericho to bust out the running enziguiri as a finisher, in any event.

Shelton Benjamin Vs. Randy Orton started uniquely enough, I'll give them that. And hey – another 'Orton Fears Jeb' sign! Brilliant! The match itself was fast-paced and these only helped each other reputations by staying strong. The figure-four/small package spot was nicely done, and even the finish didn't seem out of place. I can TOTALLY see these guys being the next Rock and Triple H, in the sense that they'll be feuding again and again as their legends grow.

The women's match was bleah at best. At least it was short, too. No idea what the point of having Trish go over was, apart from making her the first-ever five-time, five-time, five-time, five-time, five-time Women's champion (Suckaaaaa!).

Eugene Vs. Coach was exactly what it should have been. Fun mid-card comedy filler that wasn't a minute too long (or short, for that matter). Not sure what was with the cookie lady, though. I thought for sure this was going to be when William Regal turned. Guess not.

I know a lot of people were down on the idea of a Chris Benoit Vs. Kane PPV match, but I'm glad I wasn't one of them. When Kane's motivated, the guy can certainly hold his own, which he did here. Benoit was equal parts selling and working his submission holds – it's almost the classic big guy/small guy struggle that wrestling tries to sell to us on almost a weekly basis. Surprising finish there, too.

Triple H Vs. Shawn Michaels wasn't the best HIAC match I've ever seen, though it has to rank up there behind Foley/Undertaker and maybe HBK/Taker in terms of drama. This was probably the best Michaels has ever sold his injured back since… well, since his back was legitimately injured at WMXIV. Triple H even took a bit more punishing spots than normal. Although I've grown to hate the pedigree as a finisher, this was one situation where it made sense. HHH needs to stay strong going into his next little feud with Benoit, and it's not like the guy hasn't had his share of jobs over the last little while. So I wasn't disappointed in the least. The "courageous" HBK can now spend some time with his family, and return equally as strong as when he left. Everyone wins.

Hey look – I only went 4 for 7 on my predictions. Yecch!

I wish they would have turned Edge already, but maybe tomorrow on RAW. Edge and Benoit could have a great match next month, but it will be a tough sell as the focal point of a PPV. I agree with Meltzer that they shouldn't rule out bringing out older talent, like Sting or Hogan.
From what I hear, the crowd completly killed this show. After reading the results, I'm glad I didn't order it. I thi nk of they are really considering doing 2 PPV's a month, they need to cut the price down. $34.99 is insane.

I found the main event pretty dull compared to what HBK and Trips have done in the past -- not quite as plodding as Armageddon 2002 or Royal Rumble 2004, but still far from their A game.

Tomko > Nathan Jones. I know that's damning with faint praise, but still. At least he bumped pretty well for Jericho, and he seems to have the good sense to abandon the big boot. Now if he can just show more than the generic big man moveset...

Fie on the end of the women's match. It always sucks when the championi doesn't get pinned but still loses the belt, and it sucks even more when it looks like they're going to shunt Victoria back to Heat in favor of a Trish/Lita feud.

I'd go Trish-Gail myself. As for Victoria, if she snaps and goes tweener with the psycho character (Kane & Victoria > Stevie & Victoria), then feuding her against Lita would be JUST FINE.

I looked at Victoria after the match, and I just knew that she was gonna snap. I think she comes out tomorrow to the "Go! Go! Go!" but has them cut it off mid-entrance. Also, she goes back to the pants. That ass cannot be a heel ass.

Did anyone else get a weird feeling, right as Shawn shook Chioda's hand, that this might be it for him? It looked (to me at least) that he had a "this is it" aura about him.

Good show, worth the $35.

"I found the main event pretty dull compared to what HBK and Trips have done in the past"

I'm with you, Shem the Penman.

This show is polarizing! This main event is polarizing! I would probably be near a thumbs down.

Michaels/HHH. Ridiculously, preposterously, egotistically long. Started really good and then it died partways through and just. kept. dragging. I get what they were going for with the finish but it didn't get over in the slightest. Instead of coming off as a dramatic war that killed both guys, it was naptime. Michaels' selling was so good early on I thought he had seriously f'd up his back. ***1/2

Benoit/Kane. Very good -- only thing missing was a drama finish of Benoit getting Kane to tap after a long struggle. Considering the rollup finish, the post-match interview with Todd, and cooling off the Benoit/Edge dissension, it kind of looked like they're going with Benoit/Kane in a submission match next month instead of Benoit/Edge. ***1/2

Eugene/Coach. Really bad wrestling, mostly good comedy.

Women's fourway was not too bad. *1/2

Orton/Benjamin. Started poorly as neither guy can handle working this long a match. Then it picked up in a big way. ***

Jericho/Tomko. Jericho did a nice job and Tomko was fine. **

Benoit-Edge/La Resistance. I liked it when Benoit suplexed one dude's legs into the other dude. **1/2

I thought it was kind of a teary salute from HBK. I think this is the end for him, I was kind of hoping they would drop the IC to Shelton last night, and HBK might feud with Orton to be the next legend on his list, but maybe its too soon, I wouldnt complain if he went over any number of Hogan/Sting/Goldberg. :P

Low post count for the PPV, eh? Honestly, I never thought the apathy would be this high. I mean, it wasn't a Smackdown PPV. Anyway, here's my 14 cents...

- Decent opener, with a little bit of tension teased (I can never remember: Was that the Megapowers with the empty corner or Hogan-Wonderful?) between Edge and Benoit, the self-hating Canucks. La Resistance should have gotten the win, though, as I would've stomached a ref bump (there were none last night) to see the lengthy beatdown contribute to the decision. DQ wins are SO lame.

- I would've loved to see them put over the Kane beatdown on Benoit by cutting backstage to see Benoit nursing his injuries.

- Tomko is a hoss. Jericho is not. Move on, there's nothing to see here. (But seriously, I think Christian's music is a better fit for Tomko; pretty generic. Christian needs better music upon his return.)

- Randy Orton's war with the turnbuckles continues, as he flubs the "climb and show off the belt" spot. Still, his promo was solid, showing improvement and presence. His match with Benjamin, however, was way too raw. What's problematic for me is how they restrict Benjamin's moveset. He doesn't get to use matwork, nor can he bust out complicated submissions. He should at least be able to snap off a decent array of suplexes. I did, however, think that the Figure Four-Small Package spot was pretty innovative, and should have been the finish. My guess is that next month they'll do it again.

- The Women's match was inoffensive, with Gail standing out to me as particularly impressive. Her improvement over her first run demonstrates why you don't give newcomers titles upon their debuts. I'd like to see Trish w/ muscle attempt to put heat on a face Gail (she's not an evil Canadian; she's from KOREA, a small town in Arkansas - you may chant "USA" at your leisure), and I'd like to see Victoria turn psycho again, once she realizes that that dancing shit never helped her career. And poor Molly...

- Coach once again did his thing as a heel, providing an excellent foil for the ever-popular Eugene. (Seriously, Coach needs to manage SOMEONE.) Eugene's "Human knot" spot was hilarious, and his "Special People's Elbow" got the crowd hot, as did his version of the Stunner. I'd be surprised to not see "Eugene 3:16" (or is that 1:58?) signs tonight.

- World Title match was really good, as Chris Benoit (he's For Real, you know) proved that fans his can always depend on his match quality. I would've preferred it if Benoit (he's For Real, you know) brought out some Submission Finisher of Extreme Innovation and Coolness, but a cradle is a fine finish nonetheless. The post match interview with Grisham saw Benoit (he's For Real, you know) break down a little strategy, although he constantly kept referring to his catchphrase (he's For Real, you know). I did eventually expect to see either (a) someone interrupt the interview to confront/attack Benoit (he's For Real, you know); or (b) Benoit (he's For Real, you know) snap and slap Grisham in the Crossface for being an unyielding little twit. I'da dug it...

- Gee, how can I hate on the Hell in the Cell? Let's try: Shawn Michaels and Triple H always have awesome matches because they always get at least 30 minutes to tell their in-ring story, they both lose copious amounts of blood, and spend 5-10 minutes of the match laying on the mat, as the announcers sell the heart and determination of BOTH men, whose desire to be the BEST can overcome even the most devastating move. This verbal fellatio is of course accompanied by more man-man hugging, spooning, and cheek-to-cheek tenderness than your average "QAF" episode. But hey, the match was good, and utilized the Hell in a Cell format well.

Please no more HBK vs HHH matches. I have become to appathetic to this confrontation I nearly dozed off.

Randy Orton, STILL IC Champion, geez. I want to kick his smug teeth in. It's amzing how Evolution can wind people up, I suppose this is a sign of good writing.

Ric & Randy - sounds like a great couple. Wherever theres Ric, there's Randy, and vice versa.

It refers to the wacky misadventures of Jeb Tennyson Lund and his ongoing feud with young Randall. There's been at least one similar sign a TV taping that I've seen so far.

My humble reactions:

1) I missed most of the tag opener getting my wings out of the oven. No, that's not a euphemism. Since the title match had such little build-up, I liked using this match to create more concern that Benoit can't overcome Kane.

2) Tomko was not bad, and I worried the crowd was gonna turn against Jericho for looking like such a piker against him. Tomko got all the big moves (except for the springboard dropkick). Jericho should seriously retire the Walls because it's not finishing off anyone these days, and his recent style of wrestling doesn't lend itself to a submission-based climax. Go with the enziguri, Flashback or re-establish the Lionsault. I left this match wanting to see more of Tomko than Jericho. The WWE needs to do something with Y2J. Ship him back to Smackdown or give him a title feud. Like maybe against ...

3) Orton. Orton Orton Orton. What are we to do with you? You try to cut a mega-heel promo and you can't gracefully do it. Nice try, but you look to hesitant on the mic. You're walking through the crowd. After working with Flair for, what, a year, you should know by now to randomly stop preaching, spot some by-stander, mock him and move on. This is fundamental heel material. Benjamin, as well, didn't win any points with his mic work with me, or the crowd, which was going to the dark side early. The match was solid. That backbreaker/Rude Awakening kicked some ass. The finisher was weak and cheap and that's just what Orton needs to get over as the Chiseled Weasel. Nice tease with the Figure 4/package pin. These guys are good, and I want to see more of each.

4) The women's match was good. Really good. They moved quickly, broke off on smaller fights often and Trish rightfully won by stealing Lita's thunder. How many others thought Lita was going heel after showing up in Kane colors? I think all the women have been well established as credible performers, as even Lita looked angry and more polished in there. Gail won me over by slapping on the Stretch Muffler. If she had sat down Brock style on Lita, forget it, she'd be the new queen of mean.

5) Eugene needs to bring in some more legend moves. The Flying Burrito, the Polish Hammer, the Claw (someone please bring back the Claw!), and others. I've advocated giving the stunner to someone else for a while now, but I wanted Austin to manage someone and hand the move over before retiring gracefully. Why, yes, I have been drinking. But giving Eugene the stunner is both a nod to Austin and an insult. Sorry, Steve, your move is more over than you. Now Eugene must suffer for our entertainment. He's gotta be stretchered out before making the Hogan PPV comeback, complete with training videos.

6) The lone instance of the night where I lept out of my chair: Benoit pins Kane. Brilliant. We've been sold on his submission abilities for so long, I didn't even consider that he would go for the pin. Perfectly done. Both guys looked good out there. That post-match wrap-up with Benoit was an excellent idea, but the more they protest that he's "for real," the more desperate it sounds. He switched shows, took out Mark Henry, beat Hunter, beat Michaels and now beat Kane. They're gonna have to do a LOT of work on Edge for me to buy him as a credible threat to Benoit's belt.

7) I'm ambivalent about the HITC. I can appreciate them slowing the pace to make it more credible, more dare-I-say realistic. But there was nothing here we haven't seen before. The table spot was more impressive at Summerslam (those child-height tables have got to go), and while the chair shots were sharp, how can Hunter end a feud without the sledgehammer? I applaud the effort, but not the final product. It didn't have any emotion for me, emotion I was waiting to invest had they given me a reason. I'm glad and surprised Hunter won, but I worry about where they each go from here. Who else can they feud with? Who else on RAW is established enough to make a subsequent PPV match inticing?

Can you say PPV of the year? I know most of you can't but i can damn it! It had everything and not one single bad match.
Very nice opener, La Res is growing on me and i can't get over JR and King calling Conway ''Robere''. Absolutley hilarious. The Edge double suplex into double neckbreaker was awesome.

Tomko really impressed me for a rookie, much better then Jones and Matt Morgan. Sold well, looked good and Trish looked great too, her heel expressions rule.

Orton cut a suburb heel promo, one of his best. Pity he tripped at the end. It was Steiner last year and now Orton. Bad Blood was be jinxed. Match was very solid, bit of a
slow start but last few minutes ruled.

Women's match was entertaining in fact, best i can remember this year. Did I mention heel Trish rules?

Eugene was awesome here, wonderful comedy and the Coach sold like an auctioneer. Great spot when he acted like a bowling ball. I was rolling on the floor when he hit the Rock bottom and the Stunner.

Title match was very good too, Kane looked as good as a monster as i've ever seen him here and Benoit was suburb as the underdog. Amazing spot with the top-rope-closeline-into-crossface.

Hell in a Cell was drama personified. May not have been the best HIAC for wrestling but for stroytelling it ranks among the best. HBK's selling of his back was masterful, I was convinced it was legit until Trips went after it.

Tidbits-the guy in the front row who said ''Get up ya sissy'' over and over really pissed me off as did the kid in the front row just screming randomly like ''Michaels!!'' and ''Kane kissed Lita!!!''
Comedy moment:Trips saying ''Fuck Me'' to the ref.
