Got a chance to see a 7PM showing of the movie last night. I have to say, I wasn't a big fan of the start of the film, but loved the middle and ending.

Don't want to say too much because I'm terrified of spoiling details of the film for everyone, but if you've liked all of the other movies in the MCU, I think this is one of the best of the bunch.

Saw it over a week ago (wooohoo Europe) and can finally talk about it here

I liked it a lot, didn't see any true flaws in it.
But it's Obvious that it's gotten much harder to tell a fun self-contained story now because there's a lot of forecasting or call backs to the other movies.

As to be expected by now, they juggle the funny and the serious pretty well. There's also some character development for some of the team.
And they even managed to surprise me once or twice

Some good bit parts for guys like Don Cheadle. He steals the show at the party early in the movie.

For those about to go; stay for the mid-credit scene.
There's no post credit one.

I love everything about it. If you watched Shield the last few weeks there was a lot of extra good things for you. The interaction of the characters were great. I was never bored with the action sequences. It is a bit long in the middle. There were a ton of cameos that were "leaked" that just never happen. So, lower the expectations there.

I hated the action choreography in this movie. It was too chaotic to actually be able to tell what was going on in any of the fights. If they'd even just used a wider shot on the fights it would have helped, but as it stands, this movie probably has the worst fight scenes I've seen since Transformers.

On the other hand, when the movie was allowed to rest on the strength of its cast and their performances, there were some really good moments in it. I don't really like James Spader in most things, but I thought he did a particularly good job as Ultron. I was worried that we were only going to get the same "super-logical" evil robot that you get in every Hollywood movie, but we actually got the maniac Ultron that I was hoping for. I agree with jerichofan that once the movie settled into its second and third acts it got pretty enjoyable, but it's really nowhere near as good as the first film.

I was sooo tempted to start yelling fake spoilers to the people waiting for the next show. "That part with Spider-Man was amazing!"

I don't think this lives up to the magic of the first one, and there were so many characters to involve. So much to absorb.

Why do I want to compare that line up at the end to the West Coast Avengers?

And cutting where they did... They are teasing Cap saying that as much as they are teasing the damn gauntlet.

Me and my wife saw it last night, loved it very good movie that is a good end point for the current Marvel Movie line up, and sets the stage for the next batch of films. Civil War, Ragnarok, Black Panther, Ant Man, Spiderman, and Infinity War. The only thing we didn't like was everything with Banner/ Black widow it felt like we missed something from another movie , It just felt out of place and came out of nowhere.

There is a quote out in a article, can't find the precise one at the moment, that Joss basically says the two characters romantic involvement makes sense.

Also here the Entertainment Weekly take on it.

Oddly, my wife and I also saw the movie and found that to be one of our favorite parts and thought it seemed obvious. Mrs AWA even whispered- "About time" when they said it openly.

Help me out, what were they?

"Agents of SKYE, errr... SHIELD" has frustrated me so much and I gave up on it, shortly after its return in February. I kept my eyes open during some scenes in "Age of Ultron" to see if any "Agents" personnel were in the background, but I got nothing. Kinda' told me that "Agents" has been worthless. Not trying to be mean or argumentative, just curious what tied in (I'm guessing some "Agents" intel led into the opening assault).

Lot of one-liners, too. I give Marvel a wide berth with those, because humor and little quips have been their style since the 60's. The Old Lady and I loved the Banksy joke...but absolutely nobody else in the theater chuckled.

Well..considering Coulson gives them the information on the Scepter to attack Hydra at the beginning of the film, that is a big deal. On top of their current Hydra villain is talking to Strucker at the beginning. Fury probably taking the helicarrier from "Real" Shield. So, yeah nothing of importance oh yeah...the New Avengers Headquarters building is what Coulson has been doing all season.

I've been debating if we should start a separate Agents of SHIELD thread...

Killing Coulson in the first Avengers has been the one knot that can't be unkinked in the MCU. Whedon even admits (ign.com) that several higher ups are annoyed how he brought Coulson back for the series. Basically, Coulson currently sits in a Shroedinger's Box of being dead in the movie but not dead on the tv show. (Which is to say, that he's alive in the movie and after the SHIELD info-dump at the end of Winter Soldier, anyone who wanted to find out his status - Stark, at least - would know, but we're never going to see that knowledge referenced in the movies.) His unacknowleged status in the movies makes it hard to reference the show with any real detail. (Even a cameo from May or Skye would require some finagling. The best we could hope for were other agents to cross over - like Sitwell in Winter Soldier - so that the narrative gymnastics were kept to a minimum.)

As crazy as it was to see SHIELD dismantled and then left with just Coulson and his crew after last season, we now get Fury reclaiming everything (after everyone thought HE was dead...) so we can look for Gonzales to get egg on his face and Coulson to be back in charge. I'd love it if Coulson and team were based out of the new Avengers HQ, and we could get Falcon or Vision to cameo in the background once or twice a year. I would also hope that whatever they are doing with Skye and Raina and the Inhumans storyline, that it sets them up to have major parts in the Inhumans movie when that comes out. However, I worry that SHIELD may be too much work for however loosely it connects with the current plot (Hey, Its Agent Hill! Hey, Raina just had a vision of Ultron!) that they'll wind up just cancelling the whole thing. The MCU can roll along fine without a weekly check-in, and if they really want a tv show, Hayley Atwell killed it as Agent Carter and they can just keep that set 50 years ago so that there's no concern about cross-overs of any significance. Plus, Daredevil did well on Netflix, so axing SHIELD may not hurt so much. (Although, I have been enjoying this season, and I thought the Agent May story a few weeks ago was GREAT.)

I enjoyed this film more than the first. The characters were more defined this time around, especially Hawkeye who felt like the center of the whole film. Actually, it kinda felt like this film set up everyone for their own solo films, which I'd love to see. Jeremy Renner needs to get a Hawkeye film cause he was excellent in this. It's a damn shame they haven't started one yet.

I was blown away by the one scene where they were all fighting around they thing near the end and you need to rewatch that one scene about ten times because every single character was kicking ass on screen and you easily miss stuff.

Shit, also forgot to mention how James Spader completely stole the movie with just his voice. Do they have awards for just voice acting? They need to and just give them all to him.

Disagree. There's just something about Renner that bugs me.
Even with the bigger role, Hawkeye just doesn't seem to quite fit with the others- and what's the deal with having a seemingly infinite number of arrows at all times?

Like he said, nothing on Sheild affected the film. If Agents of Shield never existed, nothing would have been done differently.

Also, I know Whedon thinks he's still being cute with all the Whendonisms like killing people off for shock, but I'm honestly bored of it now.

Other than that, this was a real fun movie. Not as good as the first one, but the first one has a certain magic from seeing the characters together for the first time. More characters added here, plus ones from other movies, and no one really got the time they needed. When I heard Loki got left on the cutting room floor I was surprised and disappointed. After watching the movie I totally get it.

Marvel brass weren’t thrilled with the scene in the film, in which Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) visits his family at their farmhouse, along with the moments when the characters experience dream sequences. On the other hand, the studio was quite adamant about including the segment involving Erik joining Thor in a cave.

“The dreams were not an executive favorite either — the dreams, the farmhouse, these were things I fought to keep,” Whedon said. “With the cave, it really turned into: they pointed a gun at the farm’s head and said, 'Give us the cave, or we’ll take out the farm,’ — in a civilized way. I respect these guys, they’re artists, but that’s when it got really, really unpleasant.”

Whedon explained that there was additional footage shot in the cave, but much of it was cut, as test audiences didn’t respond to it. He said there was even a point in which studio notes led to the cave sequence getting excised completely: “I was so beaten down at that point that I was like, 'Sure, OK — what movie is this?’ And the editors were like, 'No. You have to show the [events in the cave]. You can’t just say it.’ ”

Whedon also wanted Captain Marvel and Spider-Man to appear toward the end of the film, but alas, business got in the way, as Marvel and Sony didn’t agree to team on the Spider-Man franchise until February. Additionally, Captain Marvel has yet to be cast. “I would have put both of them [in Ultron], but neither of the deals were made,” Whedon said about the characters.

Wow. I thought he was a major negative to the film. Not so much that he was doing anything wrong, but the sound of his voice and the persona I'm used to from him just goes much more to smartass than badass, and it just didn't fit, to me.

Did I miss the explanation for WHY Ultron wanted to be so destructive? At one point I recall them saying something about how things seemed to be more dangerous with the Avengers in it (which is a pretty well-established superhero paradox), and I thought Ultron was supposed to tie in to Iron Man's statement about making the world a safer place, but clearly Ultron wasn't trying to do that. What did I miss?
