This news does not make me horny, nor does it make me randy. Not shaggadelic.

Exclusive: Mike Myers is signed, sealed, delivered for Austin Powers 4

    It was inevitable.

Mike Myers had a small part in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds," and he's reprised his role as Shrek for both a sequel and a TV special in the last few years, but as far as live-action movies where he's the star, the last one was the disastrous "The Love Guru" in 2008, and the response to that nearly drove him out of the business.

Myers is a very particular talent, a guy who likes to workshop a character for a while before he actually makes a movie. He has not made that many films, all things considered, and a few times over the course of his career, he has actually pulled the plug on things that probably could have gotten made because he didn't feel they were ready. That happened most famously with "Sprockets," the feature-film version of one of his SNL characters. I liked the script he co-wrote with Mike McCullers, but Myers bowed out just before it was supposed to start, killing the film in the process.

His most successful bigscreen character, of course, is the hyper-horny snaggletoothed secret agent Austin Powers, and there has been much talk about the possibility of a fourth film in that series over the last few years. For a while, there was talk of a Dr. Evil spin-off film, but I think all of those weird characters need to share the same universe. Taking one of them into a solo film just seems odd. Whatever the case, we haven't' seen the character since 2002's "Goldmember."

That's about to change, as HitFix can now confirm that Mike Myers just closed his deal to return to the role. Yep. "Austin Powers 4" is coming, officially.

Yes, nearly ten years later, Austin Powers is coming back, even though nobody asked for him. I didn't think the third one was the greatest movie, but it was a nice way for the character to bow out. The concept was wearing thin towards the end, so three movies was just long enough. I feel like a fourth movie is going to feel forced and it's not going to be funny, so I'm not liking this news.

Having said that, if they absolutely HAVE to do this, I'll sadly be one of those suckers at the theater for the first night showing. Sure, I'll go and see how Scott Evil finally gets his long-awaited, Michael Jackson-inspired revenge from the end of the third movie. (No, don't ask why I still remember that Scott went evil.)

If it sounds like I'm rambling (and I clearly am), it's only because I loved the Austin Powers movies so much and, as much as I think this is a bad idea, I sincerely hope this works.

Also, DAMN! We could have had a Sprockets movie???

I think Myers was smart to squash a Sprokets movie. Don't think concept could have carried 90 minutes (like most SNL skits).

I was a big fan of the first movie and think the second took everything and made it even better.

Nothing about the third worked for me. From minor things like Dr. Evil's eyes being a different color, to Beyonce as the female lead, to the whole stupid plot twist of Evil being Austin's brother.

But the nature of these movies would allow them to toss all that out like they did with Elizabeth Hurley's character at the beginning of TSWSM, so I'd give it a chance if it got some positive buzz.

I thought the first movie was awesome, and the later ones less so. The difference I think is that in the first movie, Austin Powers acts like a ladies man, but Elizabeth Hurley treats him with disgust (and in my opinion, rightfully so. He's a walking STD factory with bad teeth). He decides to change himself (the scene where he watches clips of everything that happened while he was frozen), and she learns to look past the obvious physical flaws and see the good person at heart. And it's so popular that we get a sequel and a bad case of Sequel Reset (I went looking for this on TV Tropes, and sure enough, Austin Powers 2 is the first example listed!), with the difference being that now everything agrees that Austin Powers IS the sexiest man in the world.

I know it's crazy to care so much about the plot of a spoof spy comedy (and to spend so much time thinking and writing about it), but the second and third movies just don't make sense in my head.

I'm blaming Pirates 4 for this.

The original three were perfectly acceptable and most people were happy to leave the series as it was... but money talks.

All they have to do is add an international female love interest and a couple smaller 'name actors' from Europe or Asia and this film should make about $800 million worldwide, easily. Smart move Mike Myers.

Could be good, could be awful. After seeing how Myers & Carvey have portrayed eternal teenagers recently, let's be thankful it's not Wayne's World 3: Garth's Got (Gray) Pubes.

I do hope they decided to do a "reboot" scene involving another comedy actor taking over as Austin or another character taking Austin's spot. A few jokes about the new Bond franchise could lead to a decent flick.

My issue with AP3 was that Myers was EVERYWHERE - he was four characters, right? That's damn near overkill.

Eddie Murphy was like 8 characters in Coming to America, and they were all funny. Goldmember was an awful character and Fat Bastard and Evil were nowhere near as funny as the other movies.

Point taken. But by way of contrast, Eddie Murphy was at least three characters in "Vampire in Brooklyn" (1995), seven characters in "The Nutty Professor" (1996), and eight characters in "Nutty Professor II: The Klumps" (2000). How'd those work out for him?

Why yes, I am both a musician and a lawyer. Thanks for asking. :)

I actually like Nutty Professor 2. It's one of those movies that's so stupid that it's funny... like Freddy Got Fingered and Ready To Rumble.

Vampire In Brooklyn was shit though, I'll agree on that one. What was Wes Craven thinking?

And the first Nutty Professor is underappreciated. Murphy's Mama and Grandma Klump were as good as his Coming to America characters. NP2 went a bit overboard with it all, but I liked the first one.

And I haven't seen Vampire in Brooklyn, but I'd be willing to bet that his other characters weren't the primary problem with it.

First off all, Lotjx - screw you.

How/why have I not seen it...? Let's have a quiz:

A: Never got around to it
B: Not really an Eddie Murphy fan
c: I don't know about it
d: All of the above.

The answer is D.

Schindler's List, Malcolm X, Deer Hunter, Casablanca, Lord of The Rings, and others like are considered cinematic masterpieces, yet I haven't seen either. So what? Who cares? Big deal. Just because I haven't seen it means nothing.

I bet that CtA is a great movie, but since I really don't care much for Eddie Murphy, I really don't have the desire to see it. Just like how I don't care for Will Ferrell, Seth Rogan, Jonah Hill, Zach Galifianakis, and others. Big freaking deal.

Oh, and the Nutty Professor will always and forever be Jerry Lewis.

All I will say is that if you are an ER fan or have ever been, last nights was one of the best ever!! After watching the snooze-fest that was the CSI finale, the ER finale had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.
