OK, the other Austin thread was getting long and taking too long to load, and we have a new development in the situation anyway. This message was posted on WWE.com:

On March 18, 2002, the day after WrestleMania, without company approval and without notice, Stone Cold Steve Austin walked off the job and failed to appear at WWE’s Raw show in Montreal. Stone Cold Steve Austin was advised by WWE management that this was unprofessional and unacceptable. After a two week hiatus, Austin returned to work.

On Monday, June 10, 2002, Stone Cold Steve Austin again failed to appear for the scheduled Raw event in Atlanta, instead choosing to return home to San Antonio without notice and without company approval.

Although Steve was unhappy with his character’s creative direction, Steve made the personal and unprofessional decision not to report to work to address his concerns.

Therefore, Stone Cold Steve Austin is no longer an active member of WWE’s talent roster.

Then, this was posted at 411wrestling.com:

WWE.com has announced that Steve Austin is no longer part of WWE's active roster due to his walk outs. The general feeling going around the business right now is that the statement is real and not part of an angle. Many feel that Austin could never work another wrestling match again.

Vince McMahon and Jim Ross are scheduled to comment on the entire Steve Austin situation this Saturday on Confidential and word is that they have some very harsh things to say on Austin.

This is pro-wrestling so it could be an angle, but most seem to think that it is all very real right now.

    More as it develops.

I am having mixed feelings about this whole situation, as I think it will take a major stirup like this to rejuvinate pro wrestling, but like Austin. I wishj he weren't being such a dick. I also think it would be stupid of the WWE officials to just go out and badmouth Austin for the hell of it.

Well, if this is either a work or a shoot it'll draw a lot viewers to the WWE to see where they go next.

And I'll have to say, if this isn't a work, I'm sure going out on Confidential and badmouthing Austin isn't the greatest thing they could do. Last thing I'd want to do is piss him off more...

What? No more stunners? What? No more beer parties? What? Will the fans still chant What? What?

Hopefully Rock comes back and goes to RAW. At least he was willing to loose to the NWO.

How *real* is the WWE website? Has it ever tried to work the people who read it? I'm asking because I'm not sure how seriously this should be taken. Have they ever pretend that stuff that happened in the storylines was real?

The site reported the firings of Hennig and Scott Hall, and I don't remember them reporting things like this falsely, so I think we can take it seriously.

Wow, this is big news. Now if I were the WWE, I wouldn't bash Austin on Confidential. I would simply explain the company's position, much like they did on the website. I would even state how disappointed they are that things couldn't be worked out in a professional manner, and how bad they hate that Austin is no longer on the active talent roster. Make it seem more or less that it was Austin's decision not to be on the active roster. But don't bad-mouth, Austin took the low road, the WWE should take the high road.

Yeah, but that doesn't always translate to entertaining television. Especially not in McMahon's eyes. I think Vince is going to belittle him in classic McMahon style, then make out with Stacy and proclaim HHH's genetic jackhammer to be superior to his own.

Then, maybe he'll talk about how he would kill his stepfather again or something.

Two things have me thinking it could be a work.

One - It is going on Mene Gene's WWE show Confidential.

Two - I really can't see Ross badmouthing Austin...unless he really is a sellout.

SKLOKAZOID, you're probably right, we are talking about Vince afterall!(though he'll probably save the Stacy and HHH stuff for the next Smackdown!:))

And if this is a work, I can't think of a possible way for it not to come off as the stupidest thing in the world. I mean, how does fake walkouts = entertainment. Granted, it may build short-term interest, but after people find out it's just a storyline, then what? How could it be an exciting story?

Given everything I've seen on this board and on other sites, I would have to say its a shoot.

There's no point in this if its a work...unless its to try and get the fans to turn on Austin for real and make him a heel.

Let's look at how this could translate into a storyline acceptable to wrestling fans:

Fact: Austin was unhappy with his character and direction, so he walked off.

This won't ever fly because all we know on TV is that Stone Cold Steve Austin pretty much wins every match he's in. Every once in a while, he'll get a beating, but he always gets his revenge. He gets to drink beer, raise hell and whatever else the Stone Cold character has enjoyed doing for the past 6 years.

Fact: His actions were deemed unacceptable by management who told him so, and Austin still walked off--so he's permanently off the roster.

Since when has Austin ever liked authority, except when he was a heel? Austin already hates all the owners, so if this were an angle, its stupid because its not new.

I personally don't think its an angle. I think WWE posted it on the site because they know Steve Austin has a large fan following, and they most likely thought it would be appropriate to let these fans know from the horse's mouth--and not a rag wrestling website--why Steve Austin may not ever appear on their TVs again. It's the only move they could make, if you ask me. Fans deserve to know what happened to Steve Austin instead of wondering why he's not on TV and possibly being disgusted and following Austin in a walkout of their own. They've at least tried to paint themselves as the victims--although I think that position is a little bit tenuous.

On the other hand:

Fact: Austin was just benched in a storyline 3 weeks ago.

And he came back, and even won a match to get back on the roster. So why would any fan believe this is real? After Confidential, WWE just needs to forget Steve Austin even exists. If/when he returns, fine, but until then--WWE just needs to get on with it.

Everyone says Austin's conduct was unprofessional. I'm wonder how you all think he should have handled the situation.

At the very least he could have told someone he was leaving that night. I can understand why he wouldn't want to participate in bad angles. But to just leave with no prior notice like that was childish.

I believe it, but hey, I'll wait until it's confirmed.

With that said, can we finally put the "VINCE IS LETTING THE INMATES RUN THE ASYLUM" bitching to a rest?

Hopefully Rock comes back and goes to RAW. At least he was willing to loose to the NWO.

If the Rock goes to Raw - Smackdown is FINISHED. They've lost a full ratings point since he left.

If anything, put the Unified World Title on him so he could pop the ratings on BOTH shows. And since he's the Main Event Jobber - you know he's gonna put people over.

That is - IF Dwayne decides to come back for an extended period of time...... :|

This whole thing is a work! Otherwise they would've released him outright!

They release him outright and he'll show up on that TNA NWA show the next night.

Keep him under contract, but not being used, so his name value drops over time. Same thing they did with Chyna when they (Stephanie) were sick of her.

Does anyone think Austin would ever work for the Jarret's though? He was pretty vocal about NOT wanting to ever elevate Jeff.
