El Brujo is Ramiro Mendoza, and the Yankees let him go, along with Mike Stanton. How did someone think that this was a good idea? Didn't someone think this was a good idea breaking up the bullpen with Nelson and we haven't won a championship since??? Stanton has been awesome, and lefty relievers don't grow on trees, good ones anyway. Ramiro started, mopped up, set up, closed, did whatever he was asked to do, and did it smiling. He signed and gave a ball to my kid once in the middle of a workout, and just came off as a nice guy. Aren't you supposed to keep guys like that with talent? Look at Stanton's numbers the past few years, especially in the postseason. You don't want him, George? WTF? From what I read, they called Stanton up, told him that he had 15 minutes to take a 2 year $4.6 mil contract, and even if he took it, they would choose between him, Mark Guthrie, and Chris Hammond. Chris Hammond!?!?! WTF? One good year and suddenly he is the second coming of Gossage? The guy is friggin two years older than Stanton!!! If Boston or the Mets have half a brain, they sign either or both.

Hey, but the Yanks save all of about $8.50 now that both of these guys are off the payroll.
What ever happened to loyalty? Couldn't The Boss have found an overrated dinosaur championship whore of a power pitcher who pulls down more than the GNP of Belize?

I don't know about if they'll do it, but Boston should sign Stanton posthaste. And not to close, either... even though I don't trust Embree as a closer, seems like James is gonna have them toss the traditional closer role and bring him in when they need him, whenever that may be. He doesn't make it to the ninth, big deal.

My Mets are in contact with Stanton as well...and seeing how he lives in Jersey and doesn't want to leave the area it looks like we are the frontrunners.

I am with that. What happened to the glory days of Rivera and Wetteland? Wasn't that the winning formula? You need the pen, and you need the dazzling setup guy for a solid closer. With the Yanks, it has been a proven formula. I would have loved to have seen the Yanks go after Felix Rodriguez from SF (for Nick Johnson), re-sign 'Doza and Stanton, and then shoot the moon with a rotation of Pettitte, Moose, Duque, Boomer, and Weaver. I am not the biggest Hitchcock fan (especially at $6 mil), but he won't lose us any games, and I would let him start in a pinch. Save your money and let Bitch Rocket walk, get Matsui if they think he is all of that, and lets go.
