If you watch the replay you can see Carl turn the wheel to the right. The fact that he was 156 laps down at the time and Brad was going for a top-5 makes it even worse. Whenever Carl seems to try to get away with something it always blows up in his face.

So, to sum up- drive into the back of someone, and spin him out, on a road course, get parked for one race. (Robby Gordon, Montreal 2007)
Cuss on live TV, get slapped with a 25 point penalty (Dale Jr., 2007)
Futz around with the car in some way, get nailed with a 100 point penalty (Various drivers, various tracks, 2007-08)
While 156 laps down, go after a car in the top 5, send him flying, damn near throw parts of his car into the stands, admit that you were going after him on live TV, AND show up the sanctioning body by driving backward up pit road? 3 races on probation, and not even double-secret probation at that.
