| #1 Posted on 23.2.09 1019.16 | Instant Rating: 6.92 | When they say they start at five, they ain't kidding. The civic center is half seated when the first entrance theme hits.
+ Jillian/Beth Phoenix vs. Womens Champ Melina/Mickie James A ten-minute match ends when Melina rolls up Jillian with a sunset flip from the turnbuckle.
+ Paul Burchill vs. Tommy Dreamer A quick match. Tommy hits the Tree of Woe dropkick and the DDT. Burchill is utterly bland. He offered nothing. Some ECW chants emerged.
Kelly Kelly gave a family front-row seats when their youngest answer her quiz correctly: What number is this year's WrestleMania?
+ Legacy vs. Cryme Tyne They were not introduced as Team Priceless. JTG is pretty popular. Shad had the crowd's approval until they watched his tender shoulderblocks and clotheslines. Then they lost interest. Dibiase pinned him with the new variant of the Dream Slam. He's not rolling the guy up with a legsweep anymore; he's lifting the guy up like an Uncle Slam. If DiBiase and Shad were absent, the crowd would not have cared. They hated Cody and loved JTG.
+ IC Champ CM Punk vs. Kane Punk was a pinball the entire match. He couldn't hoist Kane up for the G2S. He also avoided the chokeslam twice. Kane undid a turnbuckle pad but was shoved into it. Punk then hit the springboard clothesline for the pin.
intermission
+ ECW Champ Jack Swagger vs. Christian Swagger got incredible boos. He got on the mic, assured us of his credentials, and ate up the heat. He challenged Christian, who walked out to quickly diminishing cheers. The crowd wanted to boo Jack more than they wanted to cheer Christian. He tried to get the crowd to applaud a few times. Swagger avoided the Killswitch a fee times and rolled up for a pin Christian after shoving him into the post. He looks like a solid prospect. He could be big on RAW.
Kelly Kelly picked a kid to be guest timekeeper.
+ Chris Jericho vs. Kofi Kingston The Lovely Mrs. Tracker was low-key about the night until Kofi came out, and she went happy crazy. Jericho worked the mic to address the building full of failures. He was advertised locally to be in a three-way main-event match, and this ended the same way their recent tag match did. Kofi came off the turnbuckle and leapt right into a Codebreaker. The kids in front of me were baffled as to why I'd root for the bad guy.
+ John Cena vs. Randy Orton Legacy is barred from ringside. I've stated recently that the push for Orton is wasted on a guy with no charisma. I do like his ringwork on TV. However, he stunk up the joint Sunday. Boring, boring, boring. He moved in slow-motion to suggest his reptilian nature and threw about 200 punches which Cena sold like Samoan headbutts.
It was all Orton. Cena was chucked outside repeatedly. Orton escaped the STFU by grabbing the ropes, and he hit the RKO but was too exhausted to pin. Cena avoided a head punt, hit the Attitude Adjustment, and got the pin. I hope one of them was sick. I hope that explains how dull this match was. I've seen Orton twice now live. Aside from the 3.0 (the behind-the-back backbreaker) and the RKO, all I've seen him do is punch. I wonder if he was told to drop the headlock, and it's exposed him. Maybe they expected Jericho to direct traffic in the original match. I'm looking for something to assure me Orton isn't this bad.

Nope. He is that bad. I have seen him on four house shows and one RAW and he has never failed to disappoint. he had more ennergy at RaW, but looked totally disinterested at each house show. It was like he didn't give a shit because it was not on TV. As much as I hate HHH and HBK, at least they were professional and busted their asses for house shows. This is just another in a along list of reasons why I hate Orton and feel he is the most overrated and undeserving wrestler in the business.
"Marriage is like that show ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’, but it’s not funny. All the problems are the same, but you know instead of all the funny, pithy dialogue, everybody is really pissed off and tense. Marriage is like a tense, unfunny version of 'Everybody Loves Raymond', only it doesn't last 22 minutes. It lasts forever."

Eight days ago he killed himself to get a good match out of a fat backyard wrestler whose only contribution was three big bumps and a sack full of potatoes. | Matt Tracker

The show was packed with kids. Lots of Rey masks and tons of Cena shirts. It's jarring to hear seven-year-olds yell "suck" at a wrestler. My delicate constitution can't bear it.

I mean the last time I went to a WWE house show all they had was a curtain(wrestler entrance), a couple of ring lights and a CD player(Intros). No TitianTron or Pyro, or cool laser shows. It's time for the WWE to upgrade the House Show Tour. Even the old cardboard "RAW" would be an improvement. | Spaceman Spiff

And you want them do drag the Titantron around to every house show, as well as set up pyro, lasers, and elaborate entrances? Essentially, you want Monday Night Raw at every house show.
That stuff's expensive to haul around, set up, and use. It doesn't make sense to do that. And if they did, that's money coming out of the wrestlers' pay (I'm assuming the guys all get a cut of the gate).

Man you make it sound like Vince is a poor man. I'm sure Vince can afford this I mean the WWE already renting the Arena so would it really hurt to put a Video Board up and some pyro? Attendance could actually increase with the added features at the house shows. | Matt Tracker

Even if they had a truck full of accessories, there's nowhere to put it in Asheville's Civic Center. There were maybe 8,000 there Sunday, and it's a tiny space. We had the music and spotlights for the entrances and exits; Kane had the lone colored spot.
Nearby Greenville has a relatively new arena (the Bi-Lo Center), and it's hosted a ton of live TV events. The second event under its roof was Flair's return to WCW ("Fire me. I'm already fired.") It's so big that a house show probably isn't a practical expense. The last time it had a house show, Raven and Rhyno had a hardcore match. Since then, nothing but RAWs and SmackDowns. I'm a bit surprised we haven't had a WWE PPV there yet. TNA held one there last year when Abyss won his barb-wire match.
If the WWE only held events at arenas that could host a show with full regalia, Asheville wouldn't get them.

I'm afraid there isn't much. He's generally bland, and even on TV he looks uninterested 50% of the time. Plus, ever since he's gone into "Viper" mode, his moveset has become more limited (there wasn't much to start with) and he's gotten a lot slower to showcase the "deliberate" approach of his character. While that's ok from a development perspective, it's not really friendly to the spectator.
