I've been really, really bad about posting these - not that anyone's missed it, either - part of this is attributable to practically all of the rentals not having the ability to handle my iPod (the Sentra did!) but I was really lazy about doing this well before the unpleasantness with the car. Of course, a new year means I start over trying hard - this may be the last time, too - who knows. I'M COMPLEX

Of course, this is mostly me catching up on The Essential Mix (probably another reason I haven't posted - no fun shuffle action!) but finally caught up last week and got lots of fun shuffle action - so hang on and it'll get interesting (or not) near the end...

I love the Essential Mixes. I remember learning about them early on in college ('99 or so) and felt like I had just found music nirvana. And then I found a site that had a whole shitload of them archived. Like a kid in a candy store, I probably got through like...3% of them before the site went down.

They're actually pretty available now if you're into using a certain P2P protocol beginning with B and ending with orrent. I've been acquiring a years' worth at a time to catch me up, so right now I have 1993-1995, then a sprinkling of one's I'd collected back in the FTP days, then pretty much from around 2003 on. Also, I need another hard drive (or to start putting these on DVDs like everyone else does).

The current one is very good! The lo-Q stream is up until they replace it with the next one, over at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/radio1_aod.shtml?radio1/essmix

Oh don't get me wrong...I know. I didn't want to mention the, uhh...protocol you mentioned because I wasn't sure how kosher that was. Plus not too long ago I went a whole other route, forking over a small annual fee for access to all the EMs plus other related dj sets at my typical download rate. I'm completely overwhelmed though, and like you said have started going year by year until I too will need to back them up or get another HD.

Do you have any favorites/recommendations?
