I hate the NFL offseason. Especially the last few years. For the last three years, the Buccaneers have supposedly made the big offseason move that will finally bring a Super Bowl victory to Tamap Bay. They picked up Keyshawn Johnson before the 2000 season. Last year, it was Brad Johnson (who isn't really that good, by the way). Now, Keenan McCardell is the missing link. I'm just so hesitant to get my hopes up because I'm afraid I'll be let down again. And I swear, if the Bucs lose in the first round to the Eagles this year, I'll give up and become a Rams fan.

So, with training camp opening up andm ost major offseason movements already made, what kind of hopes to you guys have for the season? Any bold predictions? I'll say that anything less than a division title and first round bye would be a disappointment for the Bucs (as far as the regular season goes).

EDIT: Dammit, I hate typos in thread titles.

I thought I read that the Bucs picked up Terrell Buckley today to strengthen the secondary but what team hasn't picked up Buckley in the last few years.

I'm a serious Broncos fanatic and I think that IF (and that is a big IF) Terrell Davis can stay healthy, the Broncos will have a very good chance of winning their division. The raiders are another year older, the chiefs don't excite me, the Chargers are the Chargers and the Seachickens are in the NFC. McCaffrey will be back, Smith won't be the only option to throw to and Shannon is back. The defense will miss Romo but they have some quality youth stepping in. Shanahan won't settle for anything less than the division.

if your bucs can't win their division this year, then they aren't very good. without a doubt, they should go 6-0 in their division...first round bye, possibly, but defintely not out of the question. i think brad johnson is going to have an outstanding year. he and gannon are very similar qbs who don't have great arms but throw for a very high completion percentage. with gruden as coach, look what gannon was able to accomplish with tim brown/jerry rice at wr, garner/wheatley at rb, and roland williams at te. brad johnson has keyshawn/mccardell at wr, pittman/alstott at rb, and dilger at te. IMO all of those bucs players are at least equal to their raider counterparts, if not better. of course the big issue is whether brad can stay healthy. if he does, it's pretty doubtful rob johnson or shaun king can beat him out and i would expect great numbers.

poor arizona gets out of the nfc east only to move in with the rams, niners, and seahawks. where's the love? rams should win the west, although the 49ers defense is underrated.

bucs shouldn't have much difficulty with the "south" as the saints and falcons are too young and the panthers suck.

chicago should win the central providing the a-train doesn't get derailed. chandler should start if healthy...a huge if. brett favre doesn't have anyone to throw to besides ahman green and i guess terry glenn. i wouldn't want to count on terry glenn, especially when their next best wr is donald driver. vikes could surprise if they play some defense this year.

i have a feeling the redskins will win the east this year. the giants stink and the cowboys got overrated since they didn't suck last year when so many people predicted they would. QUINCY CARTER IS STILL THEIR STARTING QB! that's all i need to know. anyhow, all the hype has been around spurrier and his offense (even though it's currently being led by shane matthews). however, i think their real strength will be their defense. they added a great defensive coordinator in marvin lewis, great linebackers in trotter and armstead to go along with arrington, and have great corners in bailey, smoot, and green.

my only prediction about the afc is that baltimore will be the worst team in the conference. what really bothers me is that vinny testeverde is not only still in the nfl, not only still on the jets, but he's starting. what the hell did they waste a 1st round pick on chad pennington for...to play 2 series in 2 years? give me a break. and drew brees should be starting, too.

I think Atlanta could be a big surprise in the NFC South, but that's probably from reading the articles about Michael Vick on ESPN.com and CNNSI.com the last couple of days. He is probably the one thing I'm most looking forward to seeing this year.

Hi.

have you looked at the Packer DEFENSE lately?

what's your point? so they have a good defense...i don't recall saying that they didn't. but guess what, the cowboys had a good defense last year, too, and no one is predicting anything great for them. it will help the packers that they play in a division competing with only the bears, but i don't believe their defense can make up for their lack of offense. brett favre is a great qb, but they've lost freeman, schroeder, and bradford and are now expecting glenn, driver, lee, ferguson, and walker to fill in and provide similar numbers. i wouldn't be excited about that if i was a packers fan.

don't be too proud of the Bucs...my best friends sister, Kelly [NoLastNameForPrivacy] just got hired as a Recruiter...

her football knowledge comes from her ex-boyfriend being drafted in the XLF...

And

Mix the chick from Legally Blonde with Victoria Jackson...

yeah, she's that blonde...

but, hey i'm trying to get her to hook me up with something, it's not the skins, but i know more about football than she does...

After what happened last year, I'm not asking a whole lot out of my Patriots. I think if Tom Brady stays healthy and doesn't have a sophmore slump, then we will probably win the division.

Just wish we would've signed someone to compliment Troy Brown on deep routes.

Yeah, and the Bears have a offensive juggernaunt. I would take Favre, Ahmed Green, and any receivers over the Bears offense. I predict the Bears go 8-8 at best this season. They are the one hit wonder, like the Saints and Giants from last season.

Not to stir up controversy, but since I'm such a diehard Vikings fan, I think they'll turn a few heads this year. Sure they had a bad year last season, but Green is gone, and Tice seems to have a little more control over Moss.

Plus he realizes that since they spent all that money on him that maybe they could try and throw him the ball once and a while.

I'm still not sold on Culpepper, he just seems to like running too much for my liking. It's a good way to get hurt, but I guess since they don't really have a superstar running back, he has do run.

Speaking of running backs, Bennett is starting to get better, but he needs some more NFL games under his belt before he becomes anywhere near a force like his predecessor, Robert Smith, was.

I'll get off my soapbox now, but I predict the Vikings win the division. :)

I think we're getting off topic. No one wants to hear about all those shitty has-been teams!

The Bengals are the future brother. Superbowl bound in '04.

An open letter to Andrew Gilkison from me: Sir, I am no longer pleased with your product and thus will not read it. I am the consumer and your product is not living up to my expectations. I could open up an Andrew Gilkison message board and cry about it, but that's a waste of my time. In the meantime, I would suggest you work on improving your product. Thank you.

Watching RAW and Smackdown doesn't cost anymore than your posts do. And so, like a good consumer, I'm tuning you out.

Don't know about winning the division. Should be very interesting.

The Dolphins picked up the francise RB they needed in Ricky. I am really looking forward to seeing him running in a Dolphin Uni. As long as their D stays healthy they'll be in the running for a playoff spot.

The Bills actually might look like a football team this year, with Bledsoe at the helm. Can't help but be better than the "Rob Johnson" era. Their D will keep them at the bottom, but they should be better.

The Jets are, well..., the Jets. They picked up Cowart for the D and if his achilles is Ok, he'll make them a much better D. They always seem to hang in there and give teams fits...

This division should be a real fight-to-the-finish!!!!

All of the teams are probably really really happy that the Colts have moved to another division too.

Can't wait for the season to start....

They signed Donald Hayes from Carolina, who was allegedly the best free agent WR out there. Hopefully the guy won't turn out to be Tony Simmons II. I think David Petten is a good deep threat, although with Brady at QB they probably won't be worried about throwing *too* many deep balls anyway.

Donald Hayes the best WR out there????? Surely not above Alexander, Freeman, Morton, Hakim, Mathis, etc...

His track record as a WR would make him no more than a 2nd-tier signing...

Now, getting rid of Terry Glenn is probably as big a plus as any signing the Pats made!!!!

There are so many interesting angles to this season, and we're still about a month away! Good time to be a football fan.

Hopefully a good year to be a Seahawks fan, but they're in a really tough division now (as if they weren't before).

Anybody else catch NFL Monday Night Countdown on the Deuce tonight? Just whets my appetite for the season to begin even more. I also picked up some fantasy football mags over the weekend to begin preparations for what will hopefully be another successful campaign in my league this year.

Maybe we should look into doing a free online league between the Weiners like the NCAA pools? Anyone know of a good one or have any interest?

Sorry v, but the Vikes have been, well, gutless since they went into the dome.....

I hated the Vikings of Foreman and Tarkenton, but at least they played in the cold cold mud. Moss would faint in those conditions....

ESPN.com usually does a a weekly salary cap game that allows up to fifty players to each league. Yahoo has 10 or 12 team leagues with live and computer drafts. Sandbox.com says they are going to have the same as Yahoo but they have been going through some changes so we shall see and I am sure there must be something at cbs sportsline.
