If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, commits 20-25 penalties like a duck, it's probably the NFC West.
For those of you who didn't watch, and given the matchup most of you probably didn't watch, this was one of the most wild games of the season. The Niners returned the opening kickoff 104 yards. Antrel Rolle did a kick ass backflip celebration for naught. The Cardinals committed about eight penalties in the course of about three minutes in the third and fourth quarter. Shaun Hill thinks he's Brett Favre with an ill-fated shovel.
Then Kornheiser puts the jinx full on. The ghost of Denny Green is looming large. Frank Gore puts together THE GREATEST POSSIBLE Nike "Leave Everything" commercial, only to find out that a Cardinal sneezed on him. And then...with possibly the best power running back in football (sorry Barber and Jacobs) they decided to hand off to Michael Robinson of all people. So even the fantasy geeks get something to complain about with Gore finishing (I think) at 99 yards.
GOD Almighty. So THIS is what professional (or as close as the Cardinals get to it) football is. Six straight at home.
Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you...

Was that a TMQ reference? Lord knows there's a reason he calls them the Arizona (CAUTION: MAY CONTAIN FOOTBALL-LIKE SUBSTANCE) Cardinals.
smark/net attack Advisory System Status is: Elevated (Holds; June 18, 2006) While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.
It might have been fun to watch (DISCLAIMER: I only saw the fourth quarter), but good golly these looked like two awful teams. It should never have gotten where it was, but cliche for cliche, it was what it was. I was truly expecting that the 49ers were going to be who they thought they were and steal the win on the road, but I'll always have YouTube.
Does Singletary look a whole lot smaller now that he's not in pads, or is it something else?

I'm sure I've stated multiple times that despite it being a horrible pick for my best wrestling match ever, but my favorite wrestling match ever was Triple H versus TAKA. This game, from quarter one on, WAS HHH v Taka.
(I hate multiple replies - singular thread too, but I had to plug my favorite match one more time)

Singletary is definitely not as big as he was in his playing days. But also part of it was that he just seemed so much bigger because of who he was. He was always a pretty undersized guy, but his aura and the crazy eyes made him appear bigger and more frightening.
As for the game the Niners looked totally lost once they got down to the five on that final drive. No one knew how to proceed, what to do, and then to call multiple runs, one of them not with Gore...I'm going to call that a rookie mistake, though I'm curious to know who made that decision, Singletary or Martz. Hard to imagine Mike Martz deciding to make the last play of the game a sneaky handoff inside to Robinson, but who knows?
I'm starting to think Arizona can lose every game the rest of the year and win the division by a game or two. They are a good team, though, just played a below-average game, which they tend to do when they remember they are the Cardinals. I still think they are a dangerous team come playoff time just from all the confidence and momentum they will get from winning the division so easily.
I'm not ready to crown their asses yet, though.
EDIT - Also, in the post game conference, Singletary said there was supposed to be a spike but Shaun Hill got confused and handed off instead. Hence why it looked so retarded, I guess. I don't buy it, but that was his reasoning. GO SHAUN HILL REPRESENT MARYLAND
Not to highjack the thread, but why the f*ck can't Pittburgh finish a game this season? Losses to NYG and IND at home when leading in the 4th quarter. That's just the opposite of how TEN's late-game tendencies go. It's easier said than done, but RUN THE FOOTBALL and GET FIRST DOWNS. Good teams ought to be able to do that late in a game.

Ben went 14-1 as a rookie, was the team's MVP during a Super Bowl-winning playoff run, and shattered team passing records last year. He has a terrible offensive line and has been playing with a separated shoulder since the first game of the season. This has turned him into a kind of perpetually-damaged Steve McNair-like car crash victim, to the point where it's got him physically and mentally gunshy, and he hasn't been good at all the last three weeks. But people said the same things about him being overrated during 2006, the last time he played a year through injuries, and he came back the next year to put up the second best numbers of any quarterback last season.
I think Ben will be fine and flourish after he survives this season. Eli last year and Rivers this year have made the argument about the three of them a lot more fun.

No Bettis, no Parker, no Faneca, no Hartings, no Marvel Smith, no Kreider, no fullback at all, no can do.
So you're saying he's good when he has talent around him and not as good when he doesn't? THANKS FOR THE UPDATE!! Why does everyone around here think overrated means bad?
Yikes, take a Klonopin. No, I'm saying he is as good as everyone thought he was and he is correctly rated. Isn't he rated as "one of a couple guys in the argument for the third best QB?" That sounds realistic, looking beyond the last three weeks.
