Madden & Michaels debut tonight in Canton for the Giants and the Texans - I'll miss Dennis Miller a little - I won't miss Fouts at all - just give me plenty of sideline reports by Melissa Stark and I will watch any pre-season game they want to show me

I liked Miller as an alternative to Madden. But Madden is Madden, so I'm still happy =)

Dennis Miller was bad, but I'm really going to be sick of John Madden after a couple of weeks. And I will never, EEEEVER, watch MNF when either the Cowboys or the Raiders play, because lets face it, if I wanted to see a bj, I'd go rent a porno.

Well you won't have to worry about seeing the Cowboys on MNF this year since ABC in their infinite wisdom decided not to air any games with America's Team. I've always been a fan of Madden, but I've grown up with him and Summerall together; it will be interesting to see how his schtick works with Michaels. Al Michaels seems like a cool dude so I think it should be OK. But serious JEERS to ABC for not airing a team that might have had 2 bad seasons the last 2 years, but still continues to draw an audience.

I thought Michaels and Madden did a pretty good job in their first game together. I never liked Dennis Miller as a football announcer; actually he's not in my top two for Weekend Update, either (Nealon and McDonald). Eddie Famous, I'll see you at the game. I can't wait for Illini football on Saturday and Bears on Sunday. Well, it only happens like that for one weekend, but still. Having the Bears down here will be great. Can't wait!

I dont cry one tear for the Cowboys or their fans by not having a MNF game. Especially since they dominated TV in the 90's. They suck now and accordingly ABC puts more deserving teams on MNF, end of story. And what are all you Cowboys fans worried about anyway? All three networks are going to be on Cowboys lovefest while they wait for Emmit to break the rushing record. So stop whining....

Well, not really since one of the three networks won't be carrying any Cowboys games. I would also wait a few games before saying they suck. It's only the preseason. But that never seems to stop the Cowboy Haters out there. Just because they had 3 Superbowl victories in the 90's is no reason to be drinking that Jealousy Juice. I just find it odd that MNF has brought in declining ratings for something like 7 years straight and they drop a team that traditionally brings in above avg. ratings for MNF, ESPECIALLY in a season that should see Smith break the rushing record as long as he doesn't get hurt.

I agree with Bizzle.

As much as I am a Cowboy hater, it is surprising that MNF would not pick up 1 of their games this year. As poor as they have been the last few years, they still seem to be a draw for fans...

On the MNF booth front, I watched a bit of the game Monday and Madden was fine. I hated his antics on Fox, like someone mentioned earlier about the drawings on the screen. If he sticks to Football, like he did originally, he will be great. Hopefully Al Michaels keeps on the right path, which Pat Summerall could not do at the end.

I like Dennis Miller and Dan Fouts too, so I am a littled saddened by their departure, but as I said Madden and Michaels will be more FB oriented which is OK with me.

Two things:

1) The reason so many people hate the Cowboys is that they managed to win without being decent people. They had a team full of criminals. (I saw one prediction for them of 12-4; 12 Arrests and 4 convictions!). Not only that, most of them were/are jerks and are people who I would like to beat up if I ever met them.

2) Do the Cowboys traditionally bring above avg. ratings for MNF? That's a statistic I've never seen. MNF has a tendency to show the best matchups of the year. Lets do a tally, shall we?

Of the 34 teams in 17 games on MNF this year,

15 were division champs last year
24 had more than 10 wins
30 had winning records

I'd say these are the good teams, and therefore the ones who are able to bring in higher ratings.

Man, a couple of guys get in trouble and it's a team full of criminals? Sheesh. There are 53 guys on the roster and I don't think the dickhead to nice guy ratio on that Cowboys team was any more than any other team in the NFL. Face it, if they went 7-9 with that same team they wouldn't be called a team full of criminals would they?

A hypothetical, the Steelers had Michael Irvin. THEY won the Super Bowl, would you not celebrate it because Irvin's a criminal? I don't think so.

And if you think MNF shows the best matchups of the year you haven't been watching it the last few years.

Name the criminals on the Cowboys current roster. Michael Irvin was the most high profile case but he's no longer with the team so come up with some other guys, and guys that commit crimes after leaving the team don't count. As much of a jerk he was, Deion didn't commit crimes. And please do better than having to resort to going back DECADES to Hollywood Henderson and the cocaine in the locker room. Are you trying to imply that the cowboys are the only team of professional athletes that have had jerks on the roster? No cowboy is ever out killing anyone. People love to point out a few bad apples because they are jealous of the wins.

You'd like to beat up the cowboys? HAHAHAHAHA, that's one of the funniest things I've heard in a while. That's some pretty tough TALK.

And yes, the Cowboys do traditionally bring in higher than average ratings. They have fans in all markets who tune in, plus they have all the Haters in all markets who tune in to see them get stomped. Why put the Giants on? They didn't make the playoffs last year either. But I guess the league is catering to one market with that game.

OK, back the truck up for a second. I do seem to remember more than just one guy. So I research.

This site : http://www.jocksncops.com/jocksncops/jc_teamlist.asp?1

lists nine seperate players involved with the law. Some of these are crap (one guy lost his liscence for going 95 mph) but some are a lot more serious. I saw assaulting a police officer, which is pretty good. The next highest number I see is 5, so that gives you some kind of idea.

Before you go getting huffy, I will say this, this site does not include ALL of the arrests made on ALL NFL players, but I'd be willing to bet its at least representative.

Point two. I doubt that Michael Irvin would have stayed on very many teams after the trouble he had. I do seem to remember the Steelers firing a couple of guys after stuff like that. This being said, I know you're going to bring up the two recent charges which were the guy in his hotel room in Pheonix with some Marijuana (Smith) and Plaxico Buress, which was for having an open container of alcohol. If this is the best that you can come up with, please go home.

Last but not least, you REALLY need to read entire sentences. I said I'd like to beat some of these guys up. That doesn't mean I can or will. I'd also like to drive a Champ car and fuck Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Neither of those will actually happen.

Michael Irvin was a dick but he was also one of the best wide receivers in the game at the time. There's no way he would have been fired for his minor infractions with the law. I mean, Ray Lewis was out with his friends who were KILLING people. Good ole Mike was just hooked up with some coke and hookers in a motel. I don't really care about Plaxico Buress and booze. I have no beef with the steelers so I'm not about to rag on their players. I don't follow them so I didn't know about those brushes with the law.

Every team has bad apples and it just bugs me that everyone rips on Dallas because they are jealous. I won't defend someone on the cowboys who commits crime, but I need to defend the team against people who attack them for no reason. Growing up south jersey (eagles territory) and then spending the last 10 years in north jersey (scumbag giants territory) has introduced me to people who simply HATE the cowboys for no real reason other than jealousy.

The last few years the cowboys have done a decent job of cleaning up their image from a few bad apples. And this year everyone will see a true class act and symbol of Cowboy Pride when Emmitt Smith breaks the rushing record.

I'm not happy to have Madden in the MNF booth, but I watch Raw anyway so I guess it doesn't matter. BUT I'm really, really glad Madden and Summerall won't be announcing on Sundays anymore. Man, talk about hypnosis. They put me to sleep every afternoon.

I swear, Summerall is so damn boring, if the Bengals and the Chargers were playing each other in the Superbowl, and the Bengals were down by 54 points, but came back to tie the game and went for the two-point conversion to win the Bowl with :01 left on the clock, then actually won, Summerall in his exciting voice would simply say:

"The two-point conversion is good. This is Pat Summerall along with John Madden thanking you for joining us for Superbowl coverage. Any use of this film without the express written consent of NFL Films and the Cincinnatti Bengals is prohibited by law."

Al Michaels at least knows how to get excited. And while Madden is an idiotic blowhard, at least he'll be decent for MNF.

Besides, I hate Dallas for continually whining about the Ice Bowl game, first....
