There's one in Hillsboro. We've discussed making the drive several times, but the time we discovered it was on a drive down for Thanksgiving. ANY other day would've meant a $20 meal there.

When I lived in Virginia Beach/Hampton Roads, the Sonics began springing up every 3 to 4 miles it seems a few years ago.

UP here in MD, Can't recall seeing many of them, if any.

In my 31 years in MD, I have never seen a Sonic here. Ever. (Except the time I was in Jacksonville, FL, but that doesn't count)

There's two of them near my workplace and I love to get the Tots, Cranberry Juice w/Vanilla, and a Frito Chili Cheese Wrap... or maybe the Extra-Long Chili Cheese Coney... or the SuperSONIC® Breakfast Burrito (mmmm-- tots IN the burrito)... Ok, I'll quit teasing you guys...

I feel your pain though. I keep seeing ads for Red Robin (redrobin.com) and those burgers look reeeeaaaallly good, but when I looked them up the nearest one is 150+ miles away.

Coincidentally we just got a Red Robin. Why can't everything be everywhere?!

Speaking of chains but not burger places, we've just started getting Qdoba Mexican Grills in our area. I think they're pretty good. Anyone else have thoughts on them? Apparently they're a subsidiary of Jack-in-the-Box, another chain we don't have.

Best Tortilla Soup EVER.

Pricey, though.

But my favorite of the "Fresh Mex" chains.

Is a Frito Chili Cheese Wrap really what I think it is?

Red Robin is good but all of their food tastes the same. I've come up with my own Red Robin creation, however.

Start with a 5-alarm burger.
Get rid of the meat and lettuce.
Put in the guts to a Fish Burger.
Voilá! A JJD's "I wish I was eating a Fish Taco instead" burger.

Also, Qdoba's 3-cheese Queso dip is so good it will ruin your afternoon (if you're at work). Mmmmmmmmm.

Red Robin is good, but pricey.

$9 hamburgers?

I'm personally more about having some Red Robin appetizers at their bar. Their Mozzarella Sticks can't be beat!

Red Robins is nothing special. They have a great selection of burgers, but that's about it. Their Strawberry Lemonade is pretty good, too.

I can echo everyone's sentiment concerning Sonic...it's really difficult watching American TV stations and seeing ads for restaurants that aren't in my province, let alone in Canada. I've never eaten at a White Castle, and I've never been to Sonic. I have, however, been to Shoney's more often than I can remember, and I love that place. We need a Shoneys here in Edmonton.

It's Fritos, chili, and cheese wrapped in a tortilla.

They used to market a "Frito Chili Pie", which was the same thing without the tortilla (in a dish with a fork). That was the perfect side dish to a chili cheese coney.

I am proud to say that I lasted my entire college tenure in Indiana without ever succombing to the horror that is White Castle.

I did, though, eventually give in on playing euchre.

I hear THAT. I have only been a few times, but I sure could go for a Cracker Barrel here. The closest one is in Bismarck, ND, which is a six-hour drive away. I'm going to North Carolina for a wedding this fall, and we've already made plans to hit a Cracker Barrel, as well as a Sonic.

I used to love the Sonic breakfast burrito as well.

Then I moved to Texas and found REAL breakfast tacos. I can never eat the Sonic version again.

NEVER.

What I need desperately is a Steak & Shake and a Hardees. Both are being built but I'm impatient. I miss my hot ham and cheese.

Though I discovered Tasty Freeze is alive and well in Wienerschnitzel so I'm ok for a bit. Chili dog with chili cheese fries and a Tasty Freeze shake....mmmmm breakfast.

Finally, something you and I agree on. I was in Atlanta and happened to pass by an exit with one, so I stopped even though I had just eaten lunch an hour before. It was the correct decision.

Thread's over.

I really don't know how people live without these. The ability to get a Steakburger and milkshake at three in the morning is highly underrated.

Especially since they started their deals ($2.50 Steakburger? Don't mind if I do!)
