Sometimes I disagree with the booking decisions but, I can at least see why they did what they did. With this decision, I don't see a purpose. Flair isn't a full time wrestler. Why put him over the young guy that's developed a decent fan following? If Flair has to win, why have Hurricane tap out to the Figure Four instead of having Ric Flair cheat or have HHH interfere to help Ric Flair win? Even in Flair's long run as NWA World Champion, he VERY rarely caused someone to submit to the Figure Four and the ones that did were almost always his rare jobber matches on TV. If he won matches with the Figure Four it was because the other guy "passed out from the pain" and got his shoulders counted down for the 3 count.
And, if they have to let Flair go over, why not save it for next Monday night here in South Carolina when Raw is in Greenville?
I'm not telling you anything you don't already know.
More importantly, why did Triple H have to pedigree Hurricane afterwards. There was absolutley no point to it. Unless the next big program is Triple H v. Hurricane, which would be a much needed change from the current Hunter v. Nash feud. But I doubt that possibility.
Oh, and another round of silence for Kevin Nash last night. I'm sure there'll be some Vinnie Vegas fans who try and turn it into "Nash has more main-event heat than anyone in the company!!!", but I just don't think there's any denying that Nash is dead as a performer.
Dumb as this sounds, I think they did it to make Hurricane look better. First of all, look at the matches he's had in recent weeks: The Rock, Triple H, Chief Morley, etc. He's definitely being pushed right now, even if it *is* as a comedy character. Flair has shown time and time again that he can make anyone look good, even at his age. And Hurricane looked like a solid opponent throughout the match. In other words, Flair didn't ``HHH'' The Hurricane by offering very little in terms of offense. So Flair won -- so what? He's been a due a television win for a while now, going back to his ridiculous loss to Rico last summer (not saying he HASN'T won a match on TV since then; I'm not sure, just not many come to mind.) I don't think the end result affected that this was designed to push Hurricane.... whileatthesametimepushingHHHasaheel.
"The Rock also knows damn well, what in recent years the WCW Title has come to... Diamond Dallas Page? Booker T? The guy from Scream 2, the dog from Married with Children, the maid from the Jeffersons! Shane McMahon, this title is just like your sister, everybody gets a turn!"
And as much as I love Shane Helms as the Hurricane, he lost to RIC FLAIR by god, the man, the myth, the legend. There is no dishonor in losing to Flair when he can still outwork a great deal of the locker room. Or maybe Flair just wanted to get his J-O-B back from several weeks ago when Hurricane pinned him in the tag match. Either way it didn't bother me and is hardly a real cause to bitch about it.

Hurricane also tapped out to Jericho on Heat the night before. Bad couple of TV days for our superhero.

Fluke win over Rock (with help by Steve Austin) that wasn't pushed as anything special, and that most don't even remember any more.
Beaten cleanly by Triple H
Beaten cleanly by Ric Flair
If getting treated like a jobber while in the ring with top talent is how they plan on pushing people, then the main-event scene will be stuck in a rut for a LONG time.
But hey, it worked well for RVD and Booker T, didn't it?

But if they're not pushing him to be a `top guy' (which let's face it, is never going to happen), I don't think there's anything wrong with being in strong matches on TV every week...

I think internet fans have amnesia. HHH got his ass pummeled by Hurricane, and then Flair interfered to help HHH win. There was no HHH kill of Hurricane, like when HHH killed Maven. Stop utilizing the "Scott Keith change history to suit my feelings about a wrestler" option.
Caped Boy: Excuse me, ladies. You may remember me as the guy who came to dinner a few weeks ago with underwear on my head. My name is Keith Stat from Milbourne, New Jersey. State bird, the mosquito. And as you may have heard I am recently a crowned class B dungeon-master. So if any of you would like to play D&D today, please speak now or forever hold your peace. [He chuckles, and there is an awkward silence at the table.] Caped Boy: Anyone? Alexa! [Alexa gives him a withering glare.] Caped Boy: Maybe you would like to join in? We do need a druid, and you have definitely cast a level 5 charm spell on me. Alexa: In your dreams, douche-bag! Caped Boy: Douche-bags are hygienic products, I take that as a compliment. Thank you. [Keith walks off] Alexa: Ewww!
I dont have a problem with Flair going over Hurricane because it makes Flair look like he's still dangerous. While his in-ring skills have deteriorated, his commodity as a manager to Triple H is enhanced if he looks like he can dish out some punishment (apart from a chop and a groinshot). Frankly, if Nash and Triple H are gonna feud for a bit, then Nash will contend with both their leg-centered submission moves -- the Figure Four and the Indian Deathlock. Reminding fans that the move can still do some harm, it COULD add some intrigue to their efforts to hobble Nash again.
I'd rather Hurricane get a win, but he's on TV and fighting the Nature Boy. So he plays Rocky King. At least he ain't being shipped off to OVW.
Having that happen last night was the last you'll see for a while of Hurricane losses. I have spoken with a friend who writes for RAW (PM me for contact info), he tells me that Shane Helms will be returning as Shane Helms and dropping the Hurricane gimmick. Expect a challenge over the next few weeks in which Hunter takes on 'Cane. During the match Hunter will taunt Hurricane with the Mic saying "You are nobody", eventually Hurricane will start beating him up and rip off his mask. He will than yell "I am SHANE HELMS!!"
When was the last time someone tapped to the Figure 4? Flair winning isn't so much the problem as much as Hurricane tapping is. Hurricane looks really weak when he's losing a match to a 50 year old manager cleanly.
Detroit Pistons: They also are 10 wins away. The only non-embarrassment left in the motor city

Good Lord if that happens I will puke. So they will take a guy who is tremendously over and strip his gimmick? Then what is he? he is Spike Dudley. Let him stay the Hurricane, have him feud for the IC belt and leave it at that.
God, I hate the WWE now.

Considering Kevin Nash became #1 contender by jobbing in his only match in a year, perhaps this makes Hurricane #2 contender? Plus, Flair getting a clean win slightly makes up for the Hogan/McMahon weekly lovefest on SD.

I can't believe this
Well, this isn't 1990 and Flair isn't even a full time wrestler anymore. How does it help the WWE to job out one of the young stars to Flair, especially in a completely clean way. Hurricane submitted to the Figure Four, which very few have done, even in Flair's best years.....or decades. If Flair had to win, he could have used the ropes or gotten help from HHH.
Plus, like I said before, if they were going to put Flair over cleanly, they should have done it here in South Carolina next Monday night. That would have made the crowd happy even if the rest of the night is pure garbage.
Knowing the WWE recently, they will have Flair get beat up by Rodney Mack in the White Boy Challenge here in South Carolina.
I'm not telling you anything you don't already know.
Maybe it's to set up the inevitable rematch and Hurricane victory at Bad Blood?

Right, the same Booker T that beat Hunter cleanly in almost all of their matches, who came this close to winning the World on two occasions....

Why is it that when somebody loses a match, everybody overreacts by acting like that somebody's career is over?
In most matches, there is a winner and a loser. If Hurricane had won, none of you would be saying anything about the win. Instead, we'd hear all the Flair marks complaining about him losing. This is so tiresome.
As wrestling fans, everyone should realize by now that people win and others lose. Next week, it might be different. And if you really don't like what you see, nobody's putting a gun to your head and forcing you to watch it.
There will always be complainers... Flair went over Hurricane to make the product less predictable. I'd hardly say that this was the biggest injustice ever in the sport... or even that it was an injustice. So long as both guys got a paycheque for showing up on RAW, that's all that matters.
The only people who make a fuss about wins and losses are internet junkies who complain on boards like this each week (there's always one match that didn't go the way they wanted it to go), Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, allegedly Triple H, and Goldberg. Past that, most wrestlers are happy just getting six figures or more per year.
We're talking about the guy who jobbed to almost everyone in the WWE for 6 months and still remained one of the most popular characters on the show, right? And jobbing to probably the greatest wrestler of all time is a bad thing? Hurricane could job to Funaki for an entire year and still be over. And even if Hurricane did lose to Flair, he definitely squashed Flair's pants.
